With their new LP just around the corner, São Paulo’s finest dream-pop duo – ATALHOS – return with the new single: “Teoría del Cuerpo Enamorado“.
It will be the final track to emerge from the album ‘A Tentação do Fracasso’ before its global release on 11 March 2022, via the Costa Futuro label.
Translated as the “Theory of the Body in Love”, the song finds frontman Gabriel Soares lost in a soundscape of wistful philosophy and woozy atmospherics somewhere between the worlds of Real Estate and Washed Out.
The single also features a special guest vocal appearance by Mariano Di Cesare(frontman of Mi Amigo Invencible and El Principe Idiota).
Speaking about the new single and how the collaboration came to be, Gabriel Soares says: "It was a nice surprise for me to receive Mariano's" yes "when I invited him to collaborate on this song by Atalhos. I have long been a fan of Mi Amigo Invencible and his solo project, El Príncipe Idiota, and to now launch a song with him, it is like realizing the desire that I always had to strengthen the Latin brotherhood with Argentine artists who stimulate and influence me. Beyond a casual collaboration, the song that we are launching with Mariano magnifies our imagination and encourages us to continue believing in our most beautiful dreams."
ATALHOS – NEW ALBUM: ‘A TENTAÇÃO DO FRACASSO’
– OUT 11 MARCH 2022, VIA COSTA FUTURO
Echoing Soares’ sentiments, Mariano Di Cesare adds: "When Gabriel came home one day to hear the song and chat a bit about how to approach it, I knew that what we were about to create had a soft and magical force, like his personality. Already in the first seconds of the song a universe unfolds that invites you to enter and navigate the sounds in a very warm and fun way. It is one of the collaborations that I have enjoyed the most so far, the song seems like a gem to me, I love it.”
The track swiftly follows recent single “Te Encontrei em SP”(I Found You In SP), which also saw Atalhos collaborating with Argentinian star Delfina Campos to create a tranquil and touching tribute to their hometown.
Arriving like Brazil’s answer to The War On Drugs, Atalhos combine the reverb-rinsed touches of 80s’ Springsteen, the gentle grandiosity of Arcade Fire and the day-dreaminess guitar pop of Real Estate or Beach Fossils to create music as touching as it is timeless. And this year, the rising São Paulo band will release their new album: ‘A Tentação do Fracasso’. Translated as “The Temptation of Failure”, its title makes direct reference to the diary kept by the Peruvian author Julio Ramón Ribeyro. A direct influence on the name of the title track and the wider album too, Atalhos have designed a record to feel like the journey of a lifetime with all of the intimacy, atmosphere and connection. Combining layers of guitar picks, synths, and drum loops with reflexive and sentimental lyrics, it’s an album both profoundly transportive and wholly immersive. Ebbing-and-flowing with an ephemeral fluidity and a subtle grandeur, its 8 songs create dreamlike landscapes like portals to other dimensions.
Produced by Ives Sepulveda of The Holydrug Couple alongside Atalhos’ own Gabriel Soares, the album was recorded between Buenos Aires’ infamous Studio Panda, plus studios in Santiago, and the band’s base in São Paulo. Giving the record its epic finish, ‘A Tentação do Fracasso’ was mastered at Sterling Sound by the celebrated Greg Calbi (Tame Impala, David Bowie, War on Drugs, Bruce Springsteen). |
