GLASGOW ALT-INDIE BAND PIZZA CRUNCH RETURN WITH THE A TASTE OF THEIR UPCOMING PROJECT IN THE FORM OF FIRST SINGLE YOUNG EXCITEMENT.
Glasgow alternative-rock group Pizza Crunch are pleased to announce their return with a new single ‘Young Excitement‘, which is set to be released on the 20th of May. The band are excited to release this track, having played it live at a sold-out King Tuts as well as at the Left of the Dial festival in Rotterdam and Stockton Calling. This release signifies the start of a big summer for the band.
Pizza Crunch are currently putting the final touches to a year-long project. Young Excitement will be the first track released from this project. The song revolves around the sinking feeling of finding things boring that were once exciting.
Speaking about the writing process, lyricist Ewan Hearns said: “Often when writing new songs, you get excited for a few days then realise what you’ve just created is relatively pish. This song was funny. I remember I was up on the West Coast in Scotland and wrote it as a poem. No music and no sense of melody. Usually when this happens there is a compromise when it comes to producing the actual song. Weirdly though, Nathan came round with a fully structured guitar part and the words fitted perfectly. No guitar was cut and no lyrics altered. I think when that happens you kind of know the song won’t be dumped hastily like so many of the others”.

The track was produced, mixed and mastered by Chris Marshall (Baby Strange, Gerry Cinnamon and Declan Welsh and the Decadent West) at Castle of Doom Studios. Hailing from different ends of Scotland, Pizza Crunch couple an ’80s post-punk strut with glimpses of noughties nonchalance. Infectious guitar riffs and a relentless rhythm section accentuate lyricism, which moves between the obnoxiously wry and the potently gloomy.
After only a brief time together, the band headlined the renowned Club Sabbath in Glasgow before releasing singles – ‘Fraud‘, ‘Twelve Month Seasonal Depression‘, ‘Celexa’, ‘Fried Intellectuals’ and ‘Coma-Inducing Gibberish’ and ‘Motivational Substances‘. Each track has received increasingly laudative attention from blogs, radio stations and promoters, with the groups’ music finding itself on BBC Introducing, BBC Radio 6 Music and Amazing Radio.
Prompt lyrical commentary that veers from the elucidation of sombre hedonism to trivialising the emotionally painful, along with distinct, novel guitar lines and a driving rhythm section, make Pizza Crunch one of Glasgow’s most exciting exports.
The group are keeping their current project under wraps right now, but they can’t want to share the journey with you. Young Excitement is the first stage.
