Good things come in threes. Combine UK alt-rock trio THE VIGIL, with a world renowned producer and one legendary location that birthed some of the greatest music ever heard and the result is a must hear ten track sophomore album called HYPERVILIGANCE.
The Vigil bring a concise banger of an album with Ginger Wildheart producer Dave Draper (not the body builder) at the helm. The album was recorded in the studio where Queen recorded two albums and features ten slamming rock anthems to be released on the bands own Fever Dog Records on the 21st August.
The album features Olly Smith, the chief songwriter on vocals and guitar, Rhys James on bass and backing vocals who also designed the cover artwork and sky diving adventurer Jamie Davenport on drums.
The band recorded the album in three days in spring 2019 pulling in mammoth late-night sessions with the band putting their heart and soul into the process. Rockfield was an inspiring place and even lead to the band finishing three songs in the studio playing those songs together for the first time yielding spontaneous and pure results.
The Vigil have a DIY approach and make music simply for the joy of cranking out loud rock songs with passion and heart. The title ‘Hypervigilance’ is a reference to putting out the best version of ourselves and about finding that purpose and drive in life, in these difficult and unprecedented times we live in. A place where we are all becoming hyper vigilant to our surroundings and trying to survive in the unknown. Getting back to what is important and those you care about.

On the 25th November 2016 Bristol based The Vigil released their debut album ‘Save Our Souls’. Nigel Pulsford from the band Bush produced the four piece’s storming debut, who also plays lead guitar on the album. The Vigil has always enjoyed playing a heavy rock sound, slamming drums, huge guitars, deep bass and raw vocals: Music that really hits you in your core.
The band has released two singles from ‘Save Our Souls’, entitled ‘Do You Feel Alive’ & ‘All You’ve Done’. Famed Nirvana/Soundgarden photographer Steve Gullick filmed the video for the second single. The song picked up heavy rotation on Planet Rock where it has been played for 8 weeks on the New Rock Saturday night program. The band has been featured in Kerrang!, Powerplay and Bass Player Magazine to name but a few.
The Vigil opened the inaugural Amplified Rock Festival on the main stage to 5000 people.
Last year The Vigil headed to the legendary Rockfield Studios in Monmouth (where Queen and Oasis among many others classic albums were created) to record their sophomore release. More great gigs and good times to follow, stay Vigilant!
