GRAMMY Award winner Sturgill Simpson announces a 9 date European tour, with his full band, including Londonâs O2 Forum on 28th January.Â
The tour will follow the release of the singer-songwriterâs highly anticipated new album âSound & Furyâ and its accompanying Netflix anime film.
The album and film are preceded by lead single âSing Alongâ, which was featured as Zane Loweâs âWorld Recordâ on Apple Musicâs Beats 1 and is available now at all DSPs HERE. The official music video for Sing Alongâ was directed by Japanese anime legend Jumpei Mizusaki, and offers a preview of the forthcoming film, which is set entirely to music from the full album with a different anime segment for each individual song.
Produced by Simpson, âSOUND & FURY,â the album, was recorded primarily at the McGuire Motor Inn in Waterford, Michigan, with his bandmates Bobby Emmett, Chuck Bartels, Miles Miller, who all serve as co-producers along with GRAMMY nominee John Hill (Cage The Elephant, Portugal. The Man, Bleachers). The album â which Simpson describes as âa sleazy, steamy rock n roll recordâ â is a marked departure from 2016âs acclaimed âA Sailorâs Guide To Earth,â which won âBest Country Albumâ and was nominated for âAlbum of the Yearâ at the 59th GRAMMY Awards. Merging American rock music and Japanese animation in a revolutionary new way, âSOUND & FURYâ the film, was produced and based on a story by Simpson entitled âSound & Fury.â Featuring some of the biggest names in the genre, the film was written and directed by Jumpei Mizusaki, founder of renowned animation studio Kamikaze Douga and director for the animated film, âBatman Ninja,â while Takashi Okazaki, creator of Japanese manga series âAfro Samurai,â served as the filmâs character designer. Additional directors include Koji Morimoto of Phy (âAKIRAâ) / Griot Groove, Michael Arias (âTekkonkinkreetâ), Masaru Matsumoto of Grayscale Arts (âStarship Troopers: Traitors of Marsâ), Henry Thurlow and Arthell Isom of DâART Shtajio (âIndigo Ignited, XOgenaSYSâ). Shunsuke Ochiai is co-executive producer. Hiroaki Takeuchi is production executive (âThe Animatrixâ)
âSOUND & FURYâ is Simpsonâs fourth full length release following his self-produced, GRAMMYÂź Award-winning 2016 album, âA Sailorâs Guide To Earthâ which garnered rave reviews from The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, NPR Music, Rolling Stone, Stereogum, Pitchfork, Salon, Billboard, The Atlantic, Paste, SPIN, American Songwriter among many others. Simpson brought his electrifying live show to the small screen with nationally televised performances on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, Conan, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Seth Meyers, and, most memorably, on Saturday Night Live and the 59th GRAMMY Awards telecast. Earlier this summer, Simpson unveiled a brand new track âThe Dead Donât Die,â the original theme song for the acclaimed film of the same name, written and directed by Jim Jarmusch.
âSound & Furyâ is available to pre order at SturgillSimpson.com.
