Happy Anniversary You – Heathen
Â
The 1980s San Francisco Bay Area scene was a seismic moment in the world of metal and part of that moment was Heathen. The band return January 31 with the 10th Anniversary remastered reissue of âThe Evolution of Chaosâ via Mascot Records. The release will be available on CD/DVD, 2LP and digitally with a previously unreleased bonus track âSeasons of Purgatoryâ. The CD/DVD will be accompanied by a 2 hour âMaking ofâ documentary on the album as well as a live performance from 2009s Thrash Domination, Japan.  When the album was originally released back in January 2010 it was the bandâs first album of new material in 18 years and saw them ride a wave of the resurgent Thrash scene. The line-up consisted of vocalist David White, guitarist Lee Altus, guitarist Kragen Lum, bassist Jon Torres, and percussionist Darren Minter. The album also featured performances from a number of members of Exodus. Watch the album trailer – https://youtu.be/qQ6Mspvg3JY Altus had originally formed the band in 1984 and they released two studio albums, âBreaking The Silenceâ (1987) and âVictims of Deceptionâ (1991). Driven by the riffs and harmonic structure provided by Altus and the memorable vocals of David White, the âBreaking the Silenceâ album showcased Heathenâs signature sound, mixing aggression and melody. For âVictims of Deceptionâ they signed to Roadrunner Records and it further established Heathenâs unique identity in the thrash scene with more complex arrangements. They were building a formidable live reputation in the US and toured Europe with contemporaries such as Sepultura and Sacred Reich and then an unexpected hiatus followed as grunge exploded. Altus was invited to join the German industrial metal band Die Krupps and, later, thrash pioneers Exodus. âI was sorta hiding out in industrial land,â remembers Altus. âI joined Die Krupps. It was more up my alley because grunge wasnât my thing. I couldnât do thrash metal because no one wanted to listen to it. At that time industrial was the heavy music, I liked the heavy aggressive edge to it and I stayed there for like 8-9 years I think. I was hiding out whilst grunge would blow over.â Thrash of the Titans was a benefit concert held in California for Testamentâs Chuck Billy and Chuck Schuldiner of Death, who were both battling cancer. The concert featured Heathen, Death Angel, Vio-lence, Forbidden Evil and Exodus as well as appearances from Anthrax, S.O.D. and Sadus. âAll of a sudden Wacken called and we hadnât heard from them in a decade,â says Altus. âIt had come full circle and a lot of bands were reunitingâ âThe Evolution of Chaosâ idea all started with that Wacken show in 2002. It was supposed to be a one off, but then Altus mentioned to White he had a lot of songs, some finished, some not and that maybe itâs time to reunite and do an album. White, Altus and Torres were all on board, they just needed a guitarist. After Heathen went on hiatus, White auditioned for guitarist Kragen Lum (Psychosis/Prototype) and although it didnât work out he remembered the LA guitarist when Heathen reformed. Remembering that period Altus says; âThe first time I met Kragen I almost didnât meet Kragen. We kept auditioning all these guitar players and at that time, youâd get a really good shredder but you give them rhythm and they canât play a note. Then it would be the other way around. It got frustrating and I remember Dave saying, Iâm gonna bring this guy from LA, who is a big Heathen fan and wants to come into audition. I was like, great, a guy from LA, so for sure he canât play rhythms and probably looks like a poser. I wasnât going to go. But I did show up and Iâm so glad I did. To my surprise this guy comes in and starts playing and I was like, this is amazing.â âHe just knocked it out of the park. Everybody knew that this was the guy,â White says with a smile. The album was released to great reviews and the band took on their biggest tour to date, including shows at Rock Hard festival in Germany as support to UFO and Thrash Domination in Japan with Testament, Exodus, and Kreator. The latter makes it on to the special bonus DVD and shows the band in their element and in full flow at Club Citta in Kawasaki. As we sit in 2020 on the reissue of this great album, one missing part of the Heathen puzzle is bassist Jon Torres, who sadly passed away of a heart failure in 2013 at only 50 years old. Talking about him, Lum says, âhe was such a great guy, and we really miss him. He embodied everything that you hear about from the Bay Area scene. He was always willing to lend a hand or piece of equipment to help people out.â Remembering him White goes on to say; âI knew Jon since I was 21/22 and I miss him a lot, he was a very talented guy. He was an electrician and when I moved into my house, he did a lot of work for me. So, every time I look at certain things he did, it reminds me of him. I miss him dearly,â with Altus adding, âhe just loved music; making it, creating it, playing it, you name it. No matter how bad things got, he was always upbeat and positive.â To mark the 10 Year Anniversary edition, the album was remastered, and an unreleased bonus track has been added. This bonus track, âSeasons of Purgatoryâ, was written by Torres. Talking about the addition, Lum says, âFor the reissue there was the chance to add something to it, to do something to improve it and to give fans something new. We recorded this extra track which Jon called âSeasons in Purgatoryâ and it ended up not really getting completed because we couldnât find the right vocal melody. Going back we were able to complete it and add it to the album as it should be. Listening to it, it really sounds like an instrumental so thatâs how weâre going present it. Weâre stoked to have it on the record.â Having had space since the albumâs original release, Altus reflects on his favourite moment on it. ââA Heroâs Welcomeâ is a really special song to me. I always wanted to write a song differently and lyrically. Iâve always had a soft spot for our military. Some people took it like it doesnât sound like Heathen. If thatâs what youâre saying I think youâve missed the whole point of Heathen. We wanted to be a thrash metal band that has no boundaries. Thrash metal when it started was to break any rules, you can do whatever the hell you want. Iâve heard from younger kids that thrash should be this or that. Iâm like, well show me the rules on that, who wrote the rules? Itâs not like we had a meeting and decided hereâs how thrash metal is going to sound. We just did it, there was no rules, and we were doing something different. Thatâs what attracted me to itâ |

Avant Indie From Ascot – Febueder
Â
Febueder are an avant-indie duo from Ascot, England, composed of lead vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Kieran Godfrey and percussionist Samuel Keysell.
Their name (pronounced Fe-byou-der) is more than a made-up appellation, itâs the palette from which they present their emotionally deft songwriting and progressive approach to rhythm and melody.
The bandâs first four EPs were mixed by Marta Salogni (Bjork, Frank Ocean, The XX) and received high praise for a vast array of major publications. âWolseleyâ sees the band expanding on the template, the new single darts between off-kilter clicks, swells, xylophone and deconstructed electronic noise, before morphing into a dynamic combination of minimalist guitar lines and forlorn yet driving horns. The juxtaposition between these elements doesnât detract from the overall unity of the track though, lead vocalist Kieran Godfrey still understands the importance of a strong melody and ties the track together with vocals that are all at once ethereal, melancholic and progressively structured.
Thematically, the new single is about the hindrances of conformity, that of which makes us vulnerable to deception, inaction and barmecidal contentment. Sparse yet emotive lyrics such as âWhere was I to make mistakes for the patientâs fate / For heavens sake resent my haste I was already lateâ, allude to an incredibly poignant and personal meaning behind the track. Speaking on âWolseleyâ multi-instrumentalist/supporting vocalist Samuel Keysell ruminates: âI think about my mother, about being younger and resenting myself for not doing anything about the illness which resulted in her death. Being so young you can’t do anything about that, but it’s still a hardship I carry with me.â
âWolseleyâ is a consummate single and yet another step forward for a band who have received accolades for every release to date. It expertly demonstrates the diversity of the bands influences and their capabilities, but never feels alienating or overdone. Febuederâs strength lies in their ability to take abstract instrumentation and personal content and mold it into something that connects with the listener both emotionally and musically. With a string of successful singles and live dates across the country behind them already. âWolseleyâ is an enticing prospect for what is yet to come from the band.

Your Loss, our gain – Stone temple Pilots
Perdida is a Deeply Personal Album that Weaves Introspective Lyrics and Unexpected Instruments Together Across 10 Songs for an Emotional and Musical JourneyÂ
Stone Temple Pilots embark upon a new sonic adventure with PERDIDA, the bandâs first-ever acoustic album. It features 10 deeply personal songs that weave introspective lyrics together with unexpected instruments to take listeners on an emotional and musical journey through letting go and starting over.Â
Â
PERDIDA will be available on February 7 on CD and vinyl as well as from digital outlets and streaming services. The first single, âFare Thee Well,â is available now HERE
Â
PERDIDA, the bandâs eighth studio album, features guitarist Dean DeLeo, bassist Robert DeLeo, drummer Eric Kretz and vocalist Jeff Gutt, who joined Stone Temple Pilots in 2017. The band produced the album and recorded the majority of it earlier this year at Kretzâs Bomb Shelter Studio.
Â
Dean says the albumâs title (Spanish for âlossâ) foreshadows its somber mood. âYou have to live it to write it, and this record is a reflection of where weâve been recently.â
Â
âFare Thee Wellâ â the first single and first track on the album â establishes the wistful tone on PERDIDA right away with its acoustic guitar introduction and opening line: âFare thee well, so long/I hate to say goodbye to you.â
Â
Gutt says the albumâs emotional honesty focused him lyrically. âI had to let myself be as vulnerable writing the lyrics as Dean and Robert were writing the music.â
Robert says PERDIDA is as much a musical journey as it is an emotional one thanks the touches of flute, alto saxophone, vintage keyboards, guitarrĂłn and Marxophone featured throughout the album. âIâve always loved how different instruments can accentuate a song in unexpected ways. Working with other musicians on this album was such a joy because it gave us a rare opportunity to hear our songs through someone elseâs ears.â
Â
Kretz says the band is looking forward to not only performing the new songs acoustically, but also pulling songs from previous albums into the setlist. âWeâll finally get a chance to play songs from our catalog that weâve never played live, or in some cases, havenât played live in more than 20 years.â
Â
Robert says the band is looking forward to finally realizing that dream in February 2020. âWeâre excited because itâs not only a chance for us to celebrate our new album in a special way, but also everything thatâs brought us to this moment.â
Stone Temple Pilots will also launch a 15-date acoustic tour shortly before the album comes out. At each performance, the band willnot only recreate the sound of PERDIDA, but also reimagine other songs from the groupâs multi-platinum catalog. The tour begins February 5 in Vancouver BC and ends March 1 in Boston.  See tour dates below.
Â
Tickets go on sale to the general public Friday December 6, but fans that pre-order the album beginning Monday December 2 â Thursday December 5 @ www.stonetemplepilots.com will be able to purchase tickets and VIP packages that include Meet & Greet with the band, with a special code, prior to public on-sale.

The lead track from the album âDonât Start Nowâ is already a massive hit worldwide with over 170 million streams to date. Her show stopping Award performances of âDonât Start Nowâ at The EMAâs, The AMAâs and The ARIAâs have also dazzled and delighted millions of viewers and fans everywhere.
Speaking about âFuture Nostalgiaâ Dua explains âWhat I wanted to do with this album was to break out of my comfort zone and challenge myself to make music that felt like it could sit alongside some of my favourite classic pop songs, whilst still feeling fresh and uniquely mine. I was inspired by so many artists on the new record from Gwen Stefani to Madonna to Moloko to Blondie and Outkast, to name just a few. Â
Dua continues âBecause of the time that Iâd spent on the road touring with my band I wanted âFuture Nostalgiaâ to have a lot more of a live element, but mixed together with modern electronic production. My sound has naturally matured a bit as Iâve grown up but I wanted to keep the same pop sensibility as I had on the first record. I remember that I was on my way to a radio show in Las Vegas thinking about the direction for this new record and I realised that what I wanted to make was something that felt nostalgic but had something fresh and futuristic about it too.â
Tickets for the tour go on sale Friday 6th December at 9.00am local time, excluding Spain who will be on sale Thursday 5th December at 9.00am local time. Fans should purchase tickets from official outlets only and information will be found on the DUA LIPA website. Yes Blud – Yungblud Steps It Up
Following on from the sell-out success of Yungbludâs U.K. tour, the Yorkshire-born singer-songwriter has announced additional tour dates. The newly-announced dates will see the 21-year-old perform in Russia, Sweden, and Denmark in November before heading out across the UK and Europe in the new year.
Tickets will be available from August 31st. The announcement comes after selling out his run of U.K. dates this autumn, which are due to kick off next month, September 2018. Just last month, Yungblud released his debut album, 21st Century Liability, via Polydor Records.
Listen to the album HERE.Â
This summer, Yungblud has wowed audiences at festivals worldwide including Rock Am Ring in Germany, Splendour in the Grass in Australia, Lollapalooza in Chicago, Pukkelpop in Belgium, alongside touring the US on the last ever Vans Warped Tour. Just this weekend Yungblud hit the stage at Reading and Leeds Festival in the U.K., before heading to Life is Beautiful in Las Vegas at the end of September and Austin City Limits in Texas in October.
Yungblud partly credits his razor-sharp lyricism to his lifelong love of literary-minded songwriters like Bruce Springsteen and Chris Difford from Squeeze. A multi-instrumentalist who plays guitar, bass, piano, and drums, he first picked up a guitar at age two and began writing his own songs at age 10. At an early age, Yungblud moved to London to kick-start his career and refine his musical vision, a process aided by his rediscovery of firebrand artists like The Clash, Arctic Monkeys, and N.W.A. He made his debut with âI Love You, Will You Marry Meâ â a song whose gritty storytelling recounts the real-life tale of a tragic romance at a public housing project in South Yorkshire. Featured on 21st Century Liability, âI Love You, Will You Marry Meâ also appeared on his self-titled debut EP â an early-2018 release that prompted the NME to praise Yungblud for delivering âthe lyrics of a young Alex Turner, the fury of Sex Pistols leader John Lydon, the swagger of hip-hop king Travis Scott and a whole load of spirit thatâs all his own.â
