16-year-old artist, rapper and songwriter PAYDAY has released an official music video, created and directed by the artist herself, for her song ‘Tech Deck,’ taken from her latest ‘It’s Just Music’ Mixtape, which drops across all platforms this Friday, December 18.

‘It’s Just Music’ Mixtape features 11 indisputably refreshing, in-your-face stellar tunes written and performed by the teenager poised for stardom. A brand new song titled ‘Beam’ (produced by Sarcastic Sounds, 18YOMAN, Nick “Unknown Nick” Audino) will also be available on the mixtape this coming Friday.

In October, the California-born and based, (by-way-of Louisiana, Texas and Seattle) artist also dropped the official music video for her track ‘Guts,’ which NYLON hailed as “a sweet lil’ love song for the love-avoidant.”

An all American blue-collar transient, PAYDAY spent most her childhood traveling state-to-state with her family, wherever they could find work. Often an outsider at whatever school she found herself each month or year, PAYDAY grew increasingly angry at the world, eventually finding an escape in music and a reliable friend in a Nintendo DS and 14-dollar mic she purchased at K-Mart. From 8-years-old, she immersed herself in poem and lyrics, raps and beats, eventually evolving into all things PAYDAY. “It’s crazy, I went from being the weird new kid with a southern accent, to the cool kid who knew how to rap and produce music.” Suddenly, the kids who once bullied her for being the weird outsider, all wanted to be her friend, and PAYDAY found her calling spitting rhymes and lyrics in the school playground and producing music in her bedroom.

Fast forward 2019, PAYDAY officially entered the scene and unintentionally amassed quite the cult following with the release of her debut single ‘Super Thicc,’ which soon prompted A&R’s and music blogs to come knocking. Inspired by everything from Tyler, The Creator, Lil Uzi, OutKast, and Kanye to Charlie XCX, Paramore and My Chemical Romance, PAYDAY is a welcomed and refreshing genre-defying voice for her generation. Having spent most of 2020 writing and recording music, PAYDAY is undoubtedly poised as one to watch and to break big in 2021.

Sharing The Love – Saxon

British Heavy Metal legends Saxon will deliver a full-roar-fun-down set of covers with their latest album Inspirations, which drops a brand new 11 track release featuring some of the superb classic rock songs that influenced Biff Byford & the band.

Set for release on March 19^th2021, via Silver Lining Music, Inspirations gets things rolling with the release of Saxon’s crunching take on The Rolling Stones’ ‘Paint It Black’. Biff Byford comments: “Loved this band since I first saw them and heard them. I liked the Beatles, but the Stones appealed to my rebel side; their iconic look… so many great songs, such a great attitude in the music!”

The release of ‘Paint It Black’ is also accompanied by a behind-the-scenes video which was filmed during the band’s recording session earlier in the year.

Inspirations was recorded at Brockfield Hall near York in the UK, which was built in 1804 and holds the largest collection of paintings by Yorkshire’s impressionist artists – the Staithes Group.

For Byford, recording Inspirations all together within such a rich historical environment was a major ingredient of the project. “The warmth and feel of Inspirations had so much to do with being together in this magnificent place and doing it ‘old-school’ style,” Byford explains. “This is how many bands back in the day -including some of the ones covered here- made such great albums, so it just felt really good to be able to do this somewhere like Brockfield Hall.” The results speak for themselves.

INSPIRATIONS

From the super-charged melodic romp of The Beatles’ ‘Paperback Writer’ to their freeway mad take on Jimi Hendrix’s ‘Stone Free’, Saxon show their love and appreciation with a series of faithful, raw and ready tributes. Maintaining a firm eye on the old school way using Marshall cabs, Marshall amps, real drums and produced by Biff Byford with Jacky Lehmann recording and mixing, Saxon approach the likes of Motörhead’s ‘Bomber’ (with added whistle!), AC/DC’s ‘Problem Child’, Black Sabbath’s ‘Evil Woman’ and a raucous Deep Purple’s ‘Speed King’ with refreshingly warm, unfiltered, “vintage” sounding renditions.

“We wanted to do an album based on our influences, the songs and bands that inspired us to write what we did and still do,” continues Byford, “and it was also interesting to see what my voice could do as I haven’t sung many of these songs before.”

Byford does, indeed, take on some new vocal challenges, which he duly smashes on the likes of Thin Lizzy’s ‘The Rocker’. The net result is that whether cranking up a heavyweight take on Led Zeppelin‘s ‘Immigrant Song’ or throwing down AC/DC’s ‘Problem Child’, Saxondoes a supreme job of entertaining both themselves and their audience throughout Inspirations.

“We didn’t want to change any of the songs too much, just play them more like Saxon,” concludes Byford, “and we also think it’s very important to have -and share with the fans- some fun in these dark times.”

Los Angeles rock duo Dead Posey have today released their latest unplugged EP “Malfunction X Broken Down” via Sumerian Records/Position Music.

With haunting vocals and hypnotic guitar, the EP features acoustic interpretations of their “Malfunction” EP released earlier this year. The band have also released the first music video off the EP for their chilling cover of Depeche Mode’s classic hit “Never Let Me Down Again”.

“While working from home during the crazy year that has been 2020, we wanted to show a different flavour of the “Malfunction” EP released earlier this year. Our music has had a good deal of production bells and whistles baked into it, so we wanted people to enjoy these songs in their rawest form with our two voices, an acoustic guitar and not much else. For good measure we threw in a cover of one of our favourite songs from one of our favourite bands - “Never Let Me Down Again” by Depeche Mode. We wanted to show the song in a totally different light - sultrier, moodier and more dream-like. Turn the lights down, light some candles and enjoy.”

New Looks, New Hooks – The Keystones

The Keystones are an alternative rock band based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Born in Waukesha, the very same place as the electric guitar, the members of this unique, out-of-the-box rock group hail from the golden era of grunge guitar, one that’s full of heavy tones and hypnotizing garage beats that dance between Brit-indie-rock and new-age modern rock sounds.

They’re a far cry from the glitzy, indie pop groups that seem to fall out of the woodwork these days, and they’re okay with that. Why? Because their goal isn’t to find the glossiest sound. In fact, it’s much bigger than that: they want to make the town that created the guitar as we know it proud.

The Keystones

In July, The Keystones went through a major change when they welcomed Rayven Burdette to their lineup as lead vocalist. Burdette is an incredibly gifted artist, being a proficient recorded multi-instrumentalist, receiving Tommy and Jimmy award nominations, and performing on Broadway and numerous theatres throughout the Midwest. Burdette takes pride in his Japanese-Mexican heritage, hoping to use his platform to give a voice to immigrants in America.

“Funny enough, the song just came to me while I was in the kitchen cooking. I heard the riff with the drums in my head so I quickly programmed the notes into GarageBand on my phone - a huge lifesaver for all the riffs and ideas that pop up out of nowhere! I took the chorus instrumental from another song I was writing and as a band, we fleshed out the lyrics and melodies. This was the first time I was a part of a team of musicians with a goal in mind. This was the first time I was being encouraged to do what I love most. This was the first time I felt accepted. It feels so nice to finally be the singer of a band that I’ve genuinely looked up to for years. It feels even better that we all have such organic chemistry and a drive to reach people with our music.”

Still Dreaming – Cassadee Pope

Following its premiere on US music channel CMT yesterday, GRAMMY-nominated singer-songwriter Cassadee Pope has released the latest in a series of performance videos from her 2020 acoustic album Rise And Shine; a stripped-back version of fan favourite ‘California Dreaming‘, which finds her harmonising with Sam Palladio in front of a fittingly nostalgic summer scene, projected on a large screen behind them.

Directed by Lee Goff, and complete with palm trees and shots of the ocean, the video provides the perfect backdrop for the song, which the Platinum-certified artist co-wrote with Shane Stevens (Ariana Grande, Meghan Trainor, Carrie Underwood) and Alex Kline (Mitchell Tenpenny, Maggie Rose, Erin Enderlin), with lyrics lamenting a failed romance:

“This Nashville night is where I should be /
But my soul keeps searching for my California dream.”

Produced by Pope with Todd Lombardo, the new album has received wide acclaim, with People describing “an intimate aesthetic that showcases her vocal gifts,” and Forbes noting: “Pope’s singing is marked by its clarity – fitting, as her emotion is exposed.” The final video in the series, for title track and current UK/European single ‘Rise And Shine’ will be released just before the end of the year, on December 23rd.

Additionally, Cassadee Pope is one of the first artists to have been announced for the forthcoming The Long Road festival in the UK scheduled for September 10th-12th 2021.

After logging thousands of miles as an in-demand vocalist on tour with Lenny Kravitz, Chic, Duran Duran, Kid Rock and most recently Little Steven and The Disciples Of Soul, Jessie Wagner reveals a very personal collection of songs with Shoes Droppin’, her debut solo album for Wicked Cool Records.

Displaying an impressive range encompassing bluesy R&B, neo-soul, acoustic balladry and rock a la John Mayer’s more confessional side, Shoes maintains a unified sound rooted in ’60s and ’70s style production. The songs trace times of darkness and redemption for the Norfolk, Virginia native, now based in New York City, who also fronts the rock/soul band Army of the Underdog.

Recorded during downtime from the Little Steven world tour, the album was produced by drummer Dave Diamond (Bob Weir, Derek Trucks) with engineer Chris Laybourne. Seasoned soul guitarist Sherrod Barnes has the most co-writes with six; he’s previously written for or with Beyoncé, Angie Stone and Ashanti as well as recording with Whitney Houston, Roberta Flack and Queen Latifah. The album’s striking horn arrangements are by longtime Little Steven cohort Eddie Manion, who’s also worked with Bob Dylan, Diana Ross and Darlene Love.

“This album really addresses every aspect of me as an artist. I don’t settle well in any box. I’ve hinted at that with my rock band Army of the Underdog. Turning Up The Dials – Manny Blu

Manny Blu has surprised fans with the release of a new music video for his hopeful romantic track, “Old Money,” taken from his sophomore EP New Ink, released last month (Nov 13th). With the success of the EP’s first single, “Born to Ride,” which attracted over 350K views and 1M streams worldwide, Blu is back with a new music video that reveals the depth of true, long-lasting love as it follows a young couple through the restoration of their new home, showing that money truly cannot buy love as they are tested by old flames that haunt them.

The epic 12 minute track Skyfall, written by Kai Hansen, has the long yearned ‚Keeper-Vibe’, but isn’t musically telling the whole story of the album – this has a musical arch being loved by fans of every era: from unforgettable times to glorious newer adventures all the way to the upcoming first album of the HELLOWEEN new age. Skyfall tells about an alien landing on earth and a dramatic chase, while Hansen, Kiske and Deris duel with each other in a breathtaking manner and create a broadband adventure – including a lyric sheet with colored blocks identifying the singers as well as a video that is formidable.
