A Sonic Altar – Tomberlin
Tomberlin shares a new single titled “idkwntht,” featuring guest vocals from Told Slant’s Felix Walworth.
The track is the first new music Tomberlin has shared since 2020’s acclaimed Alex G-produced EP, Projections.
Of the track, Sarah Beth Tomberlin says: “‘idkwntht’ is a sonic altar of sorts. It’s about taking a moment for remembrance, clarity, and setting an intention for what is to come. Kind of like a song version of writing out your intentions on a full moon. Holding onto feelings, words, and past versions of ourselves and our behaviour only helps when we can examine experiences once we are outside of them. Then we have to let it out, let it go, and try again.”

An Amazing Line-up – Tennessee Fields Festival
Award winning Tennessee Fields Festival returns to full capacity in 2022 and is delighted to announce the first wave of a stellar roster of artists.
Oregon native Jackson Michelson is the first of an exciting US contingent to be announced and will be taking up one of the top main stage slots, alongside top UK trio The Wandering Hearts. Also announced in this wave of artists are the fantastic Jade Helliwell, The Rising, Two Ways Home and exciting new artist, Allie Marie Hunter.
Jackson Michelson regularly performs more than 100 gigs per year in the US and achieved his first ever UK show at the inaugural festival in 2019, stunning the audience with his electric and engaging performance. Booked to perform in 2021, he was unable to travel due to restrictions and is so excited to finally return in 2022. The Wandering Hearts released their self-titled album in 2021 and are looking forward to being able to perform their new music in a festival setting. Multi-award winner Jade Helliwell performed a fantastic set at the 2021 festival, after stepping in for a last-minute cancellation, and is set to bring even more energy and power to a fully prepared and rehearsed performance in 2022. The Rising are excited to be heading over from Ireland to perform to their huge numbers of UK supporters.
Previous Caffe Nero Artist of the Month (and with multiple award nominations to their name) Two Ways Home, firm fan favourites in Essex, will be delighting the crowds at the acoustic stage. New artist Allie Marie Hunter will be making her first festival appearance following the successful release of her first two singles.
On its debut, the festival was listed in The Telegraph and The Times’ top UK festival features, garnered multiple award nominations including a UK Festival Awards shortlisting, and was crowned the UK Country Music Showcase awards Best Festival 2019. The 2021 event, although subject to restrictions, brought happiness to an excited and enthusiastic crowd following the first 18 months of pandemic chaos. The beautiful open-air venue at Sandy Brook Fields on the outskirts of Chelmsford, and flexible outlook of the festival team ensured it was a safely run, low risk event which gave many people their first chance to experience live music again at a time of national lockdowns.
“The run up to the 2021 event was exceptionally difficult with the emergence of the Delta variant only five or six weeks prior to the festival, the ever-changing covid restrictions and the uncertainty surrounding international travel. We are so proud that we were able to hold the event and we are absolutely delighted to offer a full event again for 2022, with top US artists joining phenomenal talent from the UK. We have a star female headliner to announce in due course and an amazing line up of acts that we can’t wait to continue sharing with everyone over the coming weeks. We couldn’t have made it through the last two years without our amazing supporters and we very much hope the line-up we have put together for 2022 will reward them for their loyalty and encouragement.”
Georgie Thorogood, Festival Director.
With the largest roster yet, the festival is set to return bigger and better than ever, having weathered the last two years with resilience and positivity. A fresh look awaits the attendees at the 2022 festival, alongside top-quality American style food, drinks and entertainment including a rodeo bull, Ferris Wheel and shopping area, as well as the popular line-dancing session. Grassroot activities such as the songwriter’s workshop and the songwriting masterclass will return in 2022 to continue to support younger and emerging artists. The Friday night party will once more kick off the festival, with karaoke and live music galore, and it will all take place in the beautiful Essex countryside, less than an hour from London.

Lighting Up The Stage – Sigrid
Norwegian-born, pop phenomenon, Sigrid has announced her U.K. and Europe Headline tour for 2022. It’s no question Sigrid is one of the fastest rising artists to arrive in the past few years with her standout single Don’t Kill my Vibe and globally acclaimed debut album Sucker Punch.

Written for the festivals that have become Sigrid’s definitive stage, and the thousands of fans who will “feel the bass in their chest” says Sigrid, Mirror is a track evocative of Sigrid’s talent of zooming in on the personal whilst speaking to the universal: “I love who I see, looking at me in the Mirror”.

An Immersive Gem – ATALHOS
With their new LP just around the corner, São Paulo’s finest dream-pop duo – ATALHOS – return with the new single: “Teoría del Cuerpo Enamorado“.
It will be the final track to emerge from the album ‘A Tentação do Fracasso’ before its global release on 11 March 2022, via the Costa Futuro label.
Translated as the “Theory of the Body in Love”, the song finds frontman Gabriel Soares lost in a soundscape of wistful philosophy and woozy atmospherics somewhere between the worlds of Real Estate and Washed Out.
The single also features a special guest vocal appearance by Mariano Di Cesare(frontman of Mi Amigo Invencible and El Principe Idiota).
Speaking about the new single and how the collaboration came to be, Gabriel Soares says: "It was a nice surprise for me to receive Mariano's" yes "when I invited him to collaborate on this song by Atalhos. I have long been a fan of Mi Amigo Invencible and his solo project, El Príncipe Idiota, and to now launch a song with him, it is like realizing the desire that I always had to strengthen the Latin brotherhood with Argentine artists who stimulate and influence me. Beyond a casual collaboration, the song that we are launching with Mariano magnifies our imagination and encourages us to continue believing in our most beautiful dreams."
ATALHOS – NEW ALBUM: ‘A TENTAÇÃO DO FRACASSO’
– OUT 11 MARCH 2022, VIA COSTA FUTURO
Echoing Soares’ sentiments, Mariano Di Cesare adds: "When Gabriel came home one day to hear the song and chat a bit about how to approach it, I knew that what we were about to create had a soft and magical force, like his personality. Already in the first seconds of the song a universe unfolds that invites you to enter and navigate the sounds in a very warm and fun way. It is one of the collaborations that I have enjoyed the most so far, the song seems like a gem to me, I love it.”
The track swiftly follows recent single “Te Encontrei em SP”(I Found You In SP), which also saw Atalhos collaborating with Argentinian star Delfina Campos to create a tranquil and touching tribute to their hometown.
Arriving like Brazil’s answer to The War On Drugs, Atalhos combine the reverb-rinsed touches of 80s’ Springsteen, the gentle grandiosity of Arcade Fire and the day-dreaminess guitar pop of Real Estate or Beach Fossils to create music as touching as it is timeless. And this year, the rising São Paulo band will release their new album: ‘A Tentação do Fracasso’. Translated as “The Temptation of Failure”, its title makes direct reference to the diary kept by the Peruvian author Julio Ramón Ribeyro. A direct influence on the name of the title track and the wider album too, Atalhos have designed a record to feel like the journey of a lifetime with all of the intimacy, atmosphere and connection. Combining layers of guitar picks, synths, and drum loops with reflexive and sentimental lyrics, it’s an album both profoundly transportive and wholly immersive. Ebbing-and-flowing with an ephemeral fluidity and a subtle grandeur, its 8 songs create dreamlike landscapes like portals to other dimensions.
Produced by Ives Sepulveda of The Holydrug Couple alongside Atalhos’ own Gabriel Soares, the album was recorded between Buenos Aires’ infamous Studio Panda, plus studios in Santiago, and the band’s base in São Paulo. Giving the record its epic finish, ‘A Tentação do Fracasso’ was mastered at Sterling Sound by the celebrated Greg Calbi (Tame Impala, David Bowie, War on Drugs, Bruce Springsteen). |
A Heavy Dose Of Sex – Divided Heaven
Divided Heaven has released a the final single from their upcoming album, Oblivion. “Monuments” was produced by Tim van Doorn and is a beautiful call to action.
The track builds around Jeff Berman and an overdriven guitar belting out the need to build a better future. With pulsing drums and delicate piano notes, “Monuments” hits its triumphant arc and concludes with the lines “I was born to love. Not born to die.” Listen to “Monuments” on your preferred digital platform now. Oblivion comes out Friday, February 4th on A-F Records (US/CA) and Gunner Records (UK/EU) and both labels have vinyl preorders available.
Jeff Berman has not made it easy on himself. For the past 12 years the DIVIDED HEAVEN frontman has tried relentlessly to buck the typical singer-songwriter mold with his unique writing style and career path. The new DIVIDED HEAVEN album, Oblivion, out February 4th on A-F Records (US) and Gunner Records (EU), blazes that ambition forward with a bang, a dash of weird, a pinch of Satanism, and a heavy dose of sex and politics resulting in an unapologetic and provocative DIVIDED HEAVEN album like none before.
"I had to write a record that matched the times: delicate to chaotic, heartfelt to dirty," says Berman. "Before, I would've shied away from topics such as sexual assault and victim blaming but this time I called-out the disgusting misogyny (in the track 'Reckoning') and threw shade at the abusers in our music scene (in the track 'Creep'). Before, I might've tried to portray some semblance of decency about my fellow citizenry; this time I lament that goodness and kindness are losing the culture war (in the track 'Panic') and trolling is rewarded over intelligence (in the track 'Burn Me')." Oblivion is the most ambitious DIVIDED HEAVEN album yet, as Berman states, "I landed at the geographic musical midpoint of my heart: directly between (Carole King's) Tapestry and (Motley Crue's) Shout At The Devil. Odd as that may sound, that helped guide my attempt to combine sensibility with attitude and helped me shift from Americana to overdrive rock."
Over two years, Berman enlisted four different producers to create a diverse vibe across the 10 tracks on Oblivion. Once again working with longtime producer Charlie Stavish (who most notably worked with Jenny Lewis, Vacation Manor and produced the lead single from Oblivion, the politically scorching ‘They Poisoned Our Fathers’ which features the incomparable Lydia Loveless), Berman also worked with UK-Singer-Songwriter juggernaut Frank Turner, whose production brought a whole new power to a DIVIDED HEAVEN album. In addition, Berman recorded three tracks for the album in Antwerp, Belgium with producer Tim van Doorn (longtime producer for Joe McMahon and Tim Vantol) who brought out the most graceful songs of Berman’s career, including the second single ‘Baby in the Band’. Lastly, pop producer Mike Biancaniello (who has notably worked with 5 Seconds of Summer) highlighted a new vivid hue to Berman’s songwriting to round out the album.
Pre-Order (US/CA)
Pre-Order (EU/UK)
Either solo or with the band in tow, DIVIDED HEAVEN are equally proper on festival stages at Punk Rock Bowling, SXSW and the FEST as they are in the seated listening-rooms of Hotel Cafe and the Ramones Museum and has shared stages with Dave Hause, Matze Rossi, Anti-Flag, Ryoko, Spanish Love Songs, Slingshot Dakota, Jared Hart, The Flatliners, Sundowner, Tiny Stills and many more.

Owning It – Hailey Whitters
The Iowa-born, Nashville-based rising star Hailey Whitters announces her highly anticipated third album RAISED will be released on March 18th 2022 via Pigasus Records/Songs & Daughters/Big Loud Records. Alongside the announcement she releases the official video for the album’s first single ‘Everything She Ain’t‘, directed by Harper Smith. RAISED is now available for pre-order.
“This song sort of fell from the sky one day writing with Bryan Simpson and Ryan Tyndell,” explains Whitters. “Ryan had this cool bouncy guitar part and I shot out the line, ‘I’m everything she is, and everything she ain’t.’ We started spitting out verses and finished it within an hour or so. I love the girl-next-door nature of it and its quirky language. The music video was directed by Harper Smith and was inspired by my old high school ‘Cow Pie High’… the city kids called it that because it was the school that all the country farm kids went to. I actually was the homecoming queen my senior year, so Harper and I thought it would be fun to muse on that for this video. To me, this song is about being the most authentic version of yourself despite what may or may not be popular at the moment. Whether or not you have ‘a Hollywood smile,’ this song is about owning what you bring to the table and being confident in your skin.”
RAISED finds Whitters reconnecting with her Midwestern roots and hometown of Shueyville, IA, while reflecting on family, first kisses, and life amid sprawling cornfields. “It’s been 14 years since I’ve lived in Iowa, but more and more I’ve been going back there mentally, and being pulled to the people and the places that raised me. THE DREAM was about my time and experience in Nashville and RAISED is about taking the road back home to the Heartland. If THE DREAM was my wings, then RAISED is my roots. This feels like the record I was always supposed to make, but it took THE DREAM to put me on the radar of this town and this team. Now that I have it, I’m excited for my fans to connect more personally with who I am.”
The 17-song album was co-produced by Whitters alongside producer Jake Gear, who produced THE DREAM and the subsequent deluxe album LIVING THE DREAM, and was engineered by Logan Matheny. The album also finds Whitters reconnecting with co-writers Brandy Clark, Nicolle Galyon, Hillary Lindsey, and Lori McKenna, and collaborating with American Aquarium for the first time on ‘Middle Of America’.
"This record is where I'm from, this is me. It feels like the prequel to THE DREAM,” explains Whitters. “These are the people and this is the place that made that 17-year-old girl leave everything she'd ever known to pursue a career in Country music, and not give up over the last 14 years.”
Like Whitters herself, RAISED is steeped in the culture of the Midwest. Musically, there are hints of early Alan Jackson, The Chicks, and the king of Heartland Rock, John Mellencamp. But you needn’t have spent your formative years on a farm for RAISED to speak to you.
RAISED Track List:
1) Ad Astra Per Alas Porci (Jordan Lehning, Pedro Palomino)

16) In A Field Somewhere (Hailey Whitters, Jeff Hyde, Bryan Simpson)

"RAISED is a celebration of the Heartland, but I think it's a common story no matter where you’re from. My experience growing up in the middle of the country is very relatable to a lot of people. We’ve all lived in a similar way — the only thing that’s different is the scenery.”
On February 4, Whitters will kick off her debut headline Heartland Tour in her home state of Iowa at Wooly’s in Des Moines, before playing her first European shows as part of C2C Festival, performing on the main stage in London, Glasgow and Dublin – tickets on sale now. No Frills – No Bullshit – Naked Lungs
Irish DIY noise outfit Naked Lungs have released their much-anticipated debut single “Database”.
Produced by Gilla Band’s Daniel Fox, the single comes on the heels of an exciting last few months for the enigmatic 4-piece, having built a wealth of excitement off the strength of just one caustic, self-produced live recording of a track called “Second Song”. Much of their attention to date has been built on feverish word of mouth, which has seen the band earn early organic acclaim at Irish press, as well as spots supporting the likes of Enola Gay, Bullet Girl, and The Love Buzz at the turn of the year.
The new single sees Naked Lungs live up to that early promise. Clocking in at just under 3 minutes, “Database” is a propulsive and muscular track, which encapsulates the adrenaline-inducing intensity of the band’s live performances with discordant effected guitars, driving distorted bass, and almost industrial drumming. Frontman Tom Brady delivers a blistering and emotive vocal performance, but not at the expense of a good hook with him hypnotically repeating “open the gates and / run, run, run” throughout the chorus.
Speaking on the single, the band says: “the track came about as we collectively tried to harness and contain the intense noise of the band into a sub-three-minute track. Kind of like fitting a pint into a shot glass. No frills - no bullshit.”
The single is accompanied by a stark and arresting new video which was made by bassist Ryan Mortell and sees the band perform in an abandoned multistorey car park covered in what appears to blood.
If you’re lucky enough to have caught one of Naked Lungs early shows then this striking debut offering should be instantly recognisable as a consummate and direct snapshot of their mesmerising ability to fuse raw power and melody, and with further new music and live dates planned for 2022, if you’ve not heard them before there’s no better time to jump on board.
Naked Lungs is:
Tom Brady – Vocals
Andrew Connaughton – Guitar
Matthew Pyper – Drums
Ryan Mortell – Bass
Phoenix Fusión – Las Calakas
Phoenix, AZ – Cumbia fusión sextet Las Calakas, has released a music video for their recent single “Morena” off their upcoming debut full-length album, ‘Hechizo’. which will be out in Spring 2022 via My Grito Industries.
Drummer Rafa Calaka says, “The theme of this song is about a girl who is very dangerous. Like, you know she is dangerous but we as men don’t care and we fall for her physical beauty. We know her energy is not good at all but the gorgeousness of her eyes put us in a trance. Matt (the video director) and I stayed at a coffee shop for 5 hours coming up with this story. We are super surprised because everything that we visioned, came out exactly on camera. All the scenes we had in our mind came to life. That’s a pretty hard thing to do. But we both are super content with the final product. It was a lot of hard work and shooting In different locations but it’s all worth it. We shot 10 hours per day. There is so much love and passion put into this. We love it!”
Voted “Best Party Band” in 2020 by the Phoenix New Times, Las Calakas are poised for a busy and exciting year ahead.
Las Calakas are a high energetic Phoenix, AZ based Cumbia fusion band and the founders of Phoenix latin event “Cumbia Till You Drop”! Since their debut in the Fall of 2018, Las Calakas have had a huge loyal following in Arizona and have constantly played to packed venues and sold out shows. When the band made their live debut, they also released their first self-titled EP which is out everywhere. In 2020, Las Calakas wrapped up production on their first full length record and soon released the first single from the album “Morena”, now streaming across all digital platforms.
The EP, and new single quickly reached the attention of Los Angeles based label My Grito Industries, who announced the signing of the band to release ‘Hechizo,’ the upcoming full length debut record from Las Calakas. Look for it on the Spring of 2022.
