THE SUBWAYS – Rock ‘Til They Drop
Perennial Indie/Punk Favorites THE SUBWAYS Releasing New Single “You Kill My Cool” Off Upcoming Album Due Out Later This Year.
Alternative rockers The Subways are back with a new single titled “You Kill My Cool,” which will appear on the trio’s upcoming album, due out this Autumn.
Lead vocalist Billy Lunn says, “You Kill My Cool was written at a time when I felt love so strongly that I wanted to be consumed by it, to give myself over to it entirely. I recognised a self-effacement in this feeling, as it was a willing submission or surrender that was as much destructive as it was productive. You become ecstatic, beside yourself, and not what you were before. Time stops but moves too quickly, you grow but you also diminish, you feel pleasure alongside immense pain.
The one you love is more than just a single number amongst seven-billion others, more than a profile picture or a name by which you call them. They’re godlike – and with such power, they can send you to a state of nirvana and they can demolish you. Either of which continues to enthral.”
THE SUBWAYS remain one of the most exciting live bands on the current touring circuit, thrilling crowds with their explosive rock sound and wild stage performances.
Back in 2005, with an average age of just 18, Billy, Charlotte and Josh crashed onto the international music scene with their debut album ‘YOUNG FOR ETERNITY’, and their rock-club floor-filling single ‘ROCK & ROLL QUEEN’. The NME proclaimed them “The sexiest thing to sweep rock n roll off its feet in years!”. An appearance on American smash teen drama THE OC and in Guy Ritchie’s London Gangster flick ‘RocknRolla’ has helped make the track a Spotify Rock Playlist mainstay. https://open.spotify.com/artist/4BntNFyiN3VGG4hhRRZt9d
The band have released four albums to date. Their sophomore, ‘ALL OR NOTHING’ (2008), was recorded in LA with heavyweight producer Butch Vig and, is “Buoyed with emotional heft and supernova guitar riffs, wired around a maturing song craft” (MOJO). The tracks were written at a time when Billy was battling to save his voice following surgery to remove nodules from his vocal cords. ‘MONEY AND CELEBRITY’ followed in 2011, filled with “brilliantly anarchic punk-pop vignettes; each being a big musical finger that sticks it to financial greed, the mediocre mainstream and the fame fetishists” (ROCKSOUND) and included the Radio 1 A-listed single ‘WE DON’T NEED MONEY TO HAVE A GOOD TIME’. Their self-titled 4th album saw the emergence of singer and songwriter Billy Lunn as a producer, as he took control of engineering and mixing duties and is “On Par with the best things they have ever written… and finds the band energized, focused and battle-ready” Q Magazine.
The global pandemic, though cutting short their 40+ date international ‘Young For Eternity Anniversary Tour’, has kept Billy busy in his newly-established Hertfordshire studio, with Charlotte and Josh in their respective homes focused on remotely recording Album 5. Makeshift under-stair vocal booths were constructed, and the album is now ready for a summer, 2022 release alongside a full European Tour (https://www.thesubways.net/gigs).
In April 2021 the band signed to ‘Alcopop’ and released the politically-charged, Black-Lives-Matter-inspired single “Fight”, which they describe as “a letter in two parts: a gesture of solidarity with the Black community and communities of colour as they face their daily oppression at the hands of systemic racism, and a wake-up-call to the white community that such oppressions do in fact exist, and that we must acknowledge these oppressions and fight alongside marginalised communities as allies.”
Sadly, in October 2020, after completing drum contributions for the upcoming 5th album, drummer and founding band member Josh Morgan left the band. (Full story here: https://www.thesubways.net/single-post/josh-leaves-the-subways). The Subways quickly added drummer Camille Phillips (previously of The Ramonas [http://www.ramonas.co.uk] to the band lineup for the rescheduled 2021 ‘Young For Eternity’ Anniversary tour dates, on which she was very warmly welcomed and received by the band’s devoted fanbase. In January 2022, she was happily announced as The Subways’ new permanent drummer.
It is indeed live where the band hit another level. Firm summer festival favourites, they have graced the stages of over 100 international festivals (including, notably, Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage, the main stages at Reading & Leeds, Rock Im Park, Rock Am Ring, Hurricane, Southside, and Rock En Seine) but whether in front of 100 people or 250,000, the band always deliver a high octane, thoroughly entertaining set…
“We will rock till we drop, as there is nothing more exciting for us than being on tour. The greatest drug in the world is seeing people screaming the words and dancing to the songs you’ve written. To get up onstage and to play rock and roll every day, to visit new towns, new cities, new countries, new continents and to make new friends along the way, it’s the most amazing experience we’ve ever felt!”
Grace Joyner – A Dream Pop Classic
Charleston, SC native and dream pop songstress Grace Joyner releases new track “Lioness”exclusively via Under the Radar Magazine.
Joyner is uniquely able to articulate complex feelings around love and relationships, often exploring themes of heartbreak and longing. This retro-infused track is no exception, beautifully exploring the hurt from a past relationship
According to Joyner: “I wrote this song from a pretty intense place of hurt following a falling out with a friend and former love. I think certain people come into our lives and their very existence challenges us. When you love someone I think it can be easy to make yourself smaller or lessen your power because you don’t want to challenge them so much they might not stick around. I’m working on not doing that anymore. We can take the challenge and rise to the occasion and grow as a person or we can dip out. He dipped out. I was hurt. I wrote this song.”
A “mix of rock and pop with Stevie Nicks-esque undertones,” (Culture Collide) Joyner is expanding on her well-established dream pop sound with “Lioness.” The track follows “Lovers Do” and “Vampira,” released earlier this year, and Joyner’s 2020 sophomore album Settle In, produced by Wolfgang Zimmerman (Band of Horses, Susto, Brave Baby).
The singer-songwriter first made waves with her single “Dreams” in 2016, leading to the sync of the song on The CW’s Riverdale, performances at SXSW and Savannah Stopover, and sessions at Daytrotter and Breakthru Radio. Joyner weaves a beautiful and delicate balance between reflecting on the trials of young love and showing a remarkable commitment to self-development.
Alan Fletcher ft Alyce Platt – A Bitter Sweet Prescription
One of Australia’s most instantly recognisable and loved actors, Alan Fletcher, has teamed up with fellow actor and singer, Alyce Platt, on the brand new duet, ‘Sorry Is The Word‘.
Written by Fletcher and produced by the Alt-Country dream team of Lachlan Bryan and Damien Cafarella, ‘Sorry Is The Word’ is a bittersweet song about relationships failing due to pride and a lack of communication.
“Like a lot of songs, ‘Sorry Is The Word’ came from my own life experience. I have learnt over time that pride and an inability to accept blame and apologise is responsible for so much heartache and missed opportunities,” shared Alan. “I believe a lot of marriages fail because each partner tries to mould the other to meet their expectations rather than accept each other’s flaws and foibles and learn to respect them.”
Joining Alan on ‘Sorry Is The Word’ is his Neighbours co-star and fellow singer, Alyce Platt. She is also known for her work on Sons & Daughters and City Homicide and was one of Australia’s highest-profile stars as co-host of Sale of The Century. Alyce has released three albums since 2004 with her most recent in 2015.
Alan says, “I wanted to write a classic country duet. That has become such a traditional medium for telling stories about love and loss. Duets allow for truthful emotional expressions with irony.”
For 27 years, Fletcher has portrayed the character, Karl Kennedy, on the iconic Australian television drama, Neighbours. He has also appeared in Cop Shop and in the US series, The Love Boat. His first forays into music were with the rock band, Waiting Room, in 2004 – releasing two albums and a single. The band has toured the UK ten times in eight years performing to sell-out crowds and maintaining a weekly residency in Melbourne for 12 years.
In 2020, Alan joined forces with Lachlan Bryan and Damien Cafarella at their Melbourne studio, End of the Road, to realise his passion for Americana and Folk music. The resulting album, Dispatches, slated for release later in the year, will be previewed at a special live show during the Tamworth Country Music Festival in Australia on Tuesday 19th April.
Additionally, Alan Fletcher will be touring the UK in September 2022 with performances of his stage show ‘The Doctor Will See You Now’ – The Life and Times of Dr Karl Kennedy – dates and ticket details to follow.
Sorry Is The Word’ – is out today (8/4) via MGM and available to stream/download now – listen here.
ALYCE PLATT is an Australian actor and musician. She has appeared in many of Australia’s best known drama series including Sons & Daughters, Blue Heelers, and Neighbours. As a musician Alyce has released three albums, Beautiful Death in 2004, Live From The Vault in 2006 and Funny Little World in 2015.
Leader of Down – Pure, Classic British Rock
OUT NOW – British rock heavyweights Leader of Down, who are the final band of the late great Würzel (Ex Motörhead) release their sophomore album The Screwtape Letters .
The album was mixed by long-time Motörhead producer and Grammy winner Cameron Webb and mastered at Abbey Road Studios. The CD comes with a 20-page full-colour booklet and there is also a limited edition delicious RED vinyl!
Leader of Down also release a brand new video for the second single to be taken from the album Cat’s Eye Night.
The new album is available worldwide through US label Cleopatra Records. It features 10 stellar tracks such as the first single Hitman with special guest Dennis Stratton (ex-Iron Maiden) which peaked at number 2 in the UK iTunes heavy metal chart & the brand new single Cat’’s Eye Night, which takes no prisoners with the band’s own brand of heavy rock ‘n’ roll.
Cat’s Eye Night taken from The Screwtape Letters stems from a conversation between Alex Ward (Guitarist) & Tim Atkinson (Bass) after watching the film “Cats Eye” to which Tim added the word “Night”. This was then an inspiration for Tim to write the lyrics about the night in the studio recording with the legendary Lemmy Kilmister whilst working on the track Paradise turned into Dust from the bands debut album Cascade into Chaos.
April 8th was a busy one for Leader of Down as in addition to the new album and single they headlined Heavy Metal Mayhem in Essex, England.
“We are all thrilled with the new record and so pleased that it’s being received so well already” – Tim Atkinson
The Screwtape Letters is already receiving great reviews before it was even released with the band being described as “the gutsiest rock ‘n’ roll on the planet” – Rawramp magazine.
“Although the year is barely three months old The Screwtape Letters is sure to be one of 2022’s key releases.” – Midlands Rocks
Check out The Screwtape Letters and catch Leader of Down on the road with many more dates due to be announced in 2022/23 throughout the UK and Europe.

Reidar Horghagen | Drums
Thomas Elofsson | Session Guitarist
It has been 8 long years since their last record, and Hypocrisy fans can feel the itch. Worship is 11 tracks of precise, ferocious musicianship. Commonly inspired by the fusion of the modern and the ancient, Hypocrisy have once more found a way to combine innovative ideas with classic sound in order to deliver something metalheads can enjoyably consume with awe and brutal vigor. As usual, all recording and mixing took place at Tägtgren’s Abyss Studio AB in Sweden while mastering was completed by Svante Forsbäck at Chartmakers Audio Mastering. Designed by artist Blake Armstrong (Kataklysm, In Flames, Carnifex), Worship’s artwork speaks to the history of the relationship between humanity and extra-terrestrials.
SNUFF – Not Had Enuf
Long Running UK Punk Band SNUFF Returns with New Album on April 22
Long-running UK punks Snuff are releasing a new album titled ‘Crepuscolo Dorato Della Bruschetta Borsetta Calzetta Cacchetta Trombetta Lambretta Giallo Ossido, Ooooooh Così Magnifico!’ ( or ‘Crepuscolo Dorato’ for short) on April 22 via SBÄM Records / 10 Past 12 Records.
Snuff – a folk band for the ages. A punk band for the millennium. Making music for music’s sake. Completely independent and self-sustaining. The punk/mod men of Harrow in a direct timeline from the sharply dressed hoochie coochie blues and soul gentlemen of Chicago and Detroit. Duncan Redmonds is a storyteller and observer following on from the British folk tradition of Richard Thompson and Martin Carthy set to a punk motown beat that is revered in certain circles but misunderstood in polite society. Raucous songs of modern folk tales.
Each story unfolds independently as you listen to their punk soul blues on the new album such as in Green Glass Chippings and the cover of Curtis Mayfield’s Hard Times. Over two years in the making, the band started work on new material taking new song ideas back to the format of a three-piece line up – and then bringing the organ and trombone into the mix much later once the songs were up and running. The lockdowns of 2020 held up some rehearsals, but the ideas would keep coming and the songs kept developing. Sometimes even down at the park where Snuff entertained the local dog walkers.
The crowd’s reaction to the new stuff was superb! Finally un-caged in 2021 and fully able to rehearse at their local venue The Trinity in Harrow whilst it was still closed for gigs, Snuff was back on track again. Fast, angry and loud, ready to visit Perry Vale Studios with Pat Collier (The Vibrators) who manned the record buttons.
Huzzah, huzzah and thrice huzzah!! 10 brand new tracks have appeared. All played in that classic infectious Snuff style of aggressive, harmonised melodic Motown punk. Snuff are alive, well and in tip-top form!! And once again outdo themselves with the new album title: Crepuscolo Dorato Della Bruschetta Borsetta Calzetta Cacchetta Trombetta Lambretta Giallo Ossido, Ooooooh Così Magnifico! (short: Crepuscolo Dorato) will be released on April 22, 2022 via SBÄM Records (worldwide) and the band’s own 10 Past 12 Records (U.K.).
JOSHUA RADIN – A Cathartic Experience
Following the release of his new album: ‘The Ghost And The Wall’, JOSHUA RADIN will be heading to the UK this Spring.
With a record hailed his “strongest work to date” (Glide) now under his belt, the US singer-songwriter will be embarking on a stretch of seven shows that kick-off at The Cumberland Arms, Newcastle on 18th April and come to a head at London’s Islington Assembly Hall a week later (25 April).
Support for all shows will come from the lauded ‘troubadour of heartbreak’ Rachael Yamagata.
JOSHUA RADIN – UK TOUR
With more than 1-billion streams and 1-million records sold, Radin still views songwriting as a healing force, where acoustic eloquence and dyed-in-the-wool Americana storytelling is capable of soothing the roughest of seas. His earnestness and transparency have earned comparisons to artists like Elliot Smith and Paul Simon, where “poignant, refreshingly frank lyrics” lead to catharsis and eye-opening realisations (Rolling Stone). He’s sold out shows on four continents, performed with artists like Ed Sheeran and Sheryl Crow, and earned super-fans like Ellen DeGeneres, who invited him to perform at her wedding.
JOSHUA RADIN – ‘THE GHOST AND THE WALL – OUT NOW
A record that allowed Radin to find a way to heal once again, the prospect of touring ‘The Ghost And The Wall’ will offer the opportunity for an equally cathartic experience.
Of his upcoming shows Radin says:
“When I’m touring, it’s a symbiotic relationship between me and the audience. I focus on the weaknesses I have, sing about them, and I’m renewed. Hopefully, others feel the same.”

Saphath – A Russian Onslaught
Saphath was formed in 2019 and hails from the far eastern Russian city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, which is just a stone’s throw from Japan.
Shortly after, another guitarist (Nikita Tetetin) joined them. They have put together several demo records basing upon ideas Alexey has been accumulating since 2013, greatly influenced by such bands as Moonspell, Dark Tranquility and Cradle of Filth. When sharing the ideas with other musicians, Alexey has stated that he wanted the music to be as diverse as possible and one of the grounds the band stands on is that everyone can bring any idea to the table and a place for it would be found.
Later on, Dmitriy and Alexey shared the demo records with their friends and two more band members, bass player Alexander Klimkov and drummer who conceals his name and is referred to as Sega or The Faceless One, joined them. At that point, several other demo records were done, the music has evolved, bearing a touch of SepticFlesh and Behemoth. Tracking for the debut album has started, and at that point the band members looked at the orchestral arrangements of their songs and realized that computer-voiced choirs would not work well enough with the music and decided to record them live. With that, a talented choir director, Alexandra Balenko, joined the band to help with orchestral arrangements and female vocal parts.
By the end of 2021 album record was complete and sent out for mixing and mastering to Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy). The debut will happen in the middle of spring, 2022.
Lyrically, the songs follow the style of classic English poetry and are about a place of a person in the world – a man versus society, religion and the world itself. Darkness, rage, fear, loneliness, love and losses such a person essentially suffers are being brought up in bright colors as well. The music embodies a dark symphonic mixture of Death Metal, Black Metal and Gothic Metal. The diverisity is there for everybody to find a song striking through their very heart. Alexey’s deep voice and fierce growls, Dmitriy’s thick riffs, Nikita’s emotional solos, Alexander’s massive bass, earthshaking drums of the Faceless one and Alexandra’s hypnotizing orchestra and choirs make a perfect combination that lures the listener to the magic world of eternal night, scary yet charming.
“Saphath” is one of the Slavic folklore names for a river dividing the worlds of living and dead, similar to Greek Styx, and the music definitely comes from the other bank.
Cade Hoppe – Tasting Success
Indie-pop singer and songwriter Cade Hoppe presents the music video for his new single, “Morphine.”
“Morphine” is a tender and stunningly intimate track that meditates on coping with the weight of life’s expectations.
For the accompanying music video, which was self-directed, Cade riffs off one of his favorite lyrics from the song: “the coffee’s out so the nurse brought me lemonade / I’m scared to death because they taste the same.” He elaborates: “Somehow that line says everything I wanted to say in the song with such a simple metaphor, and I really wanted to expand on that both visually and thematically in the video by literally making lemonade in a coffee pot.”
Originally hailing from Sacramento, CA and now based in New York, Cade originally moved to the East Coast to pursue academic and athletic opportunities. He’d been writing songs and playing piano, guitar, bass and saxophone since childhood, but it wasn’t until 2020 that he started to explore the possibility of recording and releasing his own songs to prioritize his true passion. After putting out a few experimental releases with his stepbrother, Nick Adams, Cade connected with producer Harper James — one half of Eighty Ninety — and began to develop his indie-pop sound. Together, they created his debut EP, ‘Tell Me How It’s Worth It,’ which was released in late 2021.
Cade Hoppe’s music sounds like if The National made a Taylor Swift record endorsed by Chris Martin, Jack Antonoff, and Brandon Flowers. But, no matter whose music inspires comparison, the 22-year-old artist sets himself apart from others in the pop landscape with his warm, baritone vocals, earnest lyricism and sticky pop melodies. With his steadfast determination and undeniable talent, Cade is well on his way to becoming an indie-pop mainstay.
