German symphonic metal shooting stars Beyond The Black look back on a stratospheric success story. Already their 2015 debut album hit like a bomb in their home country. ‘Songs Of Love And Death‘ besieged the German Top 15 for weeks and lead up to the band being awarded the Metal Hammer Award 2015 for ‘Best Debut’. Its successor ‘Lost In Forever‘ (2016) entered the German charts on #4 right away and paved ways for a huge tour from Germany over countries like UK, Russia or Japan.
Since the band’s live debut in 2014 they have played the world’s biggest Metal festival Wacken Open Air several times and toured as a support act for heavy weights such as Aerosmith, Korn, Scorpions, Saxon or Within Temptation. In the course of album release number three ‘Heart Of the Hurricane‘ Beyond The Black absolved their first own European headline tour in fall 2019 consisting of over 20 shows in 10 countries – most of them sold out. But even before finishing their touring cycle Beyond The Black got back to the studio to write record number four. The highly anticipated ‘Horizons‘ was finally released in June 2020, entered the German album charts on #3 (CH #6, AT #16, BE #53) and marks the band’s most successful album release to date.
Nick Shane – Coming Out Hard
Nick Shane is a UK Mod/Punk/Indie singer-songwriter based in Scotland.
His new album ‘Wired To The Moon’ (with his band, The 121s) has already managed to gain over 200k worldwide streams and downloads, with tracks featured on multiple Spotify and New Music playlists and radio stations worldwide. Throughout 2020-22, Nick also released widely regarded solo tracks such as ‘Cloudy Monday’, ‘Youth & The Young’ and ‘Valentine’.
"I teamed up with Ally and wrote this song at the beginning of lockdown in 2020 and it was originally about the effect of when it would all essentially end, and how coming out of lockdown may be as hard, if not harder, for society as going into lockdown. I’ve been a massive fan of Texas for as long as I can remember, and they’ve played a huge part in the soundtrack of my 32 years on the planet. Being a Scottish band, I’ve always been exposed to them on local radio, and as I grew up, I think they’ve played a massive part on my new-age mod/avant-garde musical aesthetic. There’s a lot of pretty cool, diverse influences in their music, linking to blues, and northern soul to dance and pop. They’ve always been visually and audibly stunning, throughout their career, so Ally agreeing to play guitar on my song is something that blows my mind, beyond all recognition."

‘Stranger Times’ will be released on
Friday 8th July at 00:00 GMT on all streaming platforms.
Nick has been part of the Scottish music scene for a number of years with his extensive back catalogue, ranging from acoustic/soulful/singer-songwriter numbers, to heavy-mod/grunge chaotically psychedelic dynamics, while also being heavily involved in LGBT+ Rights Activism over the past ten years, leading to him being awarded Outstanding Contribution to Music & LGBT Rights at Scotland’s very first Rainbow Awards in 2015.

10. Whose God Is This?
Produced by Hoge during a week’s worth of live performances at Nashville’s Sound Emporium Studios, Wings On My Shoes was preceded earlier this year by the powerful album-closing ‘Whose God Is This?’, available for streaming and download here. The album – which sees Hoge joined by his longtime backing combo, guitarist Thom Donovan, drummer Allen Jones, and bassist Christopher Griffiths, with guest multi-instrumentalist Joshua Grange contributing pedal steel and organ – features few overdubs and zero studio trickery, wearing its rough edges with pride to stand tall as a document of a hardscrabble band at work, sweating and stomping its way toward rock ‘n’ roll redemption.
Written largely during the pandemic era, Wings On My Shoes is, at its core, a testament to Hoge’s renowned gifts as a songwriter, highlighting the diverse perspectives of an expert craftsman whose songs turn Southern storytelling into universal sentiment. From the jubilant jangle of ‘It’s Just You’ and the furious ‘All I Can Take’ – the latter an inspired blast of bar band bombast recorded in a single take – to the stunning, string-laced ‘The Last One To Go’ and the desperate narrative drive of ‘Dead Man’s Hand’, Hoge distills American roots music to its essential ingredients, carrying the torch for an enduring blue collar sound rooted in ringing guitars, anthemic songcraft, and steadfast lyrical integrity.
“I always want to embrace change,” Hoge says, “to accept new things artistically, but at the end of the day, I can try to run from this idea that I love good, guitar-based rock ‘n’ roll music or I can wear that badge of honor. I’m in the ‘wearing the badge of honor’ phase now.”

CROWJANE – Captivating Soundscapes
Experimental post-punk artist CROWJANE has roared back to life with a brand new remix of her single “The Pharmacy” which was produced by Daniel Munoz and is out today via Kitten Robot Records.
In addition, CrowJane (real name: Heather Galipo) will be playing a long-awaited release show for her debut album Mater Dolorosa at Los Angeles’ Zebulon (2478 Fletcher Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90039) on June 23. Tickets for the event can be found here.
While stuck in quarantine, Galipo decided to play around with the songs from her debut, remixing and reimagining the songs in new contexts. “Daniel Munoz and I started pulling apart these tracks, adding a different flair and personal touches,” she explains. “We remixed ‘The Pharmacy’ to give it new life and to create something we think will be great at a live show.”
Mixing contemporary production with a real DIY aesthetic on her experimental and rhythmically expansive album Mater Dolorosa, CrowJane and Roessler together explored sound textures and other effects to create the captivating soundscapes that envelop her uniquely haunting vocals. “Mater Dolorosa was an experimental adventure of messing with different sounds and homemade instruments,” she explains of the unconventional instrumentation that included tin cans, bed railings and even cat litter. “For example, I used foil and hit it with a pencil as a ‘snare’ sound on ‘Circular Valley,’ for instance. I’m happy with the way it turned out and I think it is a good first album and it won’t be the last.”
“The Pharmacy – Remix” by CrowJane is out now. CrowJane will be performing at Zebulon in Los Angeles on June 23.

Coming from a visual art background of surrealism and horror, CrowJane has built a career as a professional effects makeup artist who has worked on Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.3, American Horror Stories, Mulan, HBO’s Winning Time, The Orville, FX’s Dave, We Need To Do Something, Cheaper By The Dozen, Dancing With The Stars, The Last Of Us: Part II, Star Wars: Fallen Order, and more alongside her music career.
This unlikely background helped foster an outsider musical sensibility that is perfectly balanced by an encyclopedic knowledge of the byways and back roads of punk and death rock, both historic and in LA’s contemporary underground music scene, of which her bands have been an integral component for the past 10 years.
Black Foxxes – An Emotional Climax (Live Review)
The Assembly Hall in Islington is a den of beauty and it was soon filled with a skulk of Black Foxxes fans.
Creatures easily identifiable by their branded t-shirts, (good news for the merch stall) tousled mane and penchant for conversation and ale.
Their sound checked, excitement mounted in the crowd as the three musicians took their places on stage, their gear set up in-line to the front of the stage, all for one and one for all.
Drummer Finn Mclean in the middle with Mark Holley on guitar and vocals and Jack Henley on bass either side.
a Tierce de Picardie to finish the song with a tentative note of optimism"
Opening tonight for FATHERSON, Black Foxxes exploded into their opening song, “How we Rust”– raw energy, pure emotion and instant communication connecting them with their audience. Punching, dancing and lunging, Mark’s rhythmic guitar playing matched the heavy, insistent drum beat to create a feeling of tension, suspense… the reassuring promise of what was to come…
Second number, Drug Holiday, had a slower and sadder vibe at the beginning, emotion building to a louder second part with heavy riffs in a minor key. A crescendo building to a climatic finish, the song faded away… “Get me out…out of sight…out of mind…”
exquisitely accurate drumming"
Carsaig, saw the guitarists turn and play towards the drummer, the time signature changing through 4/4 to 3/ 4 with sections played in free time. A big symphonic sound interspersed with melodic distortion and falsetto vocals characterized the song’s theme of fear; “the bruises of my fight…I’m scared to let you go”, with a Tierce de Picardie to finish the song with a tentative note of optimism.
The final two songs, River and Badlands, were increasingly intense and angst-filled, with poignant pause and improvised sections highlighting the mental health themes of depression, mania, hopelessness and rage. Silence is used to powerful effect, lyrics echoing this; “There is comfort in silence…there’s weight in talk…”
The talented Black Foxxes finished their impressive set with a final outpouring of emotion from Mark Holley; a mounting excitement matched by the exquisitely accurate drumming by Finn and head-banging insistence of Jack building to a powerful, emotional climax. We were seriously impressed.

Cassie Marin – Celestial Liberation
Los Angeles-based vocalist, producer and multi-instrumentalist Cassie Marin shares her new single, “Floating.”
Pairing sparse, bubbling synth-pop beats with Cassie’s signature saccharine vocals, “Floating” is the ultimate dreamy summer pop tune. With her much-anticipated album on the horizon, this new single continues her impressive streak of irresistible electro-pop anthems.
In a statement about “Floating,” Cassie writes: “‘Floating’ is all about coping with isolation and discovering beauty in the mundane. It embraces us when we find it difficult to relate to others, or when we feel like some alien creature that has fallen from the sky. It packs this celestial sense of liberation that, when I wrote it, got me out of questioning who I was and how I was supposed to feel about it. I was reminded that there is never anything wrong with being different. I hope to take my listeners to this place, into the freedom of the sky, floating, above all doubt and fear, embracing fully the present moment and all that we are.”
Listen to “Floating” on all streaming platforms:
https://sndo.ffm.to/b0n8qw
Constantly exploring new musical and visual dimensions, Cassie Marin has emerged as an avant-garde luminary in the left-of-center pop space. Heading into the release of her next album — due out this Summer — she has taken a propulsive leap with her songwriting, opening up about her most private battles and innermost thoughts. Instead of succumbing to self-indulgence and pity, she wields her hardships as a portal to empower and transform. The magic of her music exists in the layered meaning of each of her songs – beneath the infectious, rhythmic production lay inspiring and heartfelt life lessons. There is something new to discover with every listen.
Fatherson – In Safe Hands (Live Review)
The crowd were now suitably warmed up by Black Foxxes, Fatherson bounced their way onto the stage in matching Derelique / Kwik Fit outfits and began their joyful, fun-filled, rollicking good-time-of-a-set.
This wasn’t glamorama, this was to be a much needed happy, energy bomb of a show incorporating thirteen songs. We’d not seen the band since Augustine’s farewell in 2016 but Ross Leighton (guitar, lead vocals), Marc Strain (bass) and Greg Walkinshaw (drums) were looking well and ready to entertain London.
The boys started their set with ‘Dive’ and ‘Charm School’, jumping and head-banging their way around the stage, both taking the lead vocals alternately, matching the vibe of the uber-bright lighting. Their joy in performing was evident with Marc show-boating as much as he ever did and the audience lapped it up- it truly was a fun-filled Friday night. Did we mention that yet?
master performers loving their craft "
Third song, Lost Little Boys, featured some fast drum work, echoing the insistent lyrics; “I need you… I need it all,” showcasing percussionist Greg’s impressive technique and passionate drum style.
The middle songs, Normal People, The Landscape, Ghost and Reflection are obviously well known and well-loved by the fans, who sang along with conviction and passion. Powerful vocals showcasing Ross and Marc’s impressive range and falsetto singing combined with their trademark big melodic sound and intricate, complex guitar riffs pervaded the assembly hall, filling it with the sensation that we were in the safe yet exciting hands of master performers loving their craft – and we knew it.
‘Cat Stevens’ featured Greg standing up and seemingly drumming with his whole body, while the feel-good “Love for Air” wove a magical spell among the by now, blissed –out crowd. Ross’s richly-toned vocals serenaded us with Just Past the Point of Breaking, Better Friend and I like not Knowing, before Fatherson finished the evening with Always…”Listen to the silence… Do you hear? Do you hear?
Fatherson, we heard you. And we loved you.
