YUMI AND THE WEATHER – Sexual Creatures
YUMI AND THE WEATHER RELEASE MUCH ANTICIPATED SECOND ALBUM: ‘IT’S ALL IN MY HEAD’
The new album also arrives with the added promise to hear its songs performed live at a series of special launch shows in London, Brighton, and Portsmouth this Autumn.
Leading the way with one of its finest and most fearsome moments, the project fronted by Ruby Taylor is delighted to present the featured track “Be Your Lover”. A prowling, brooding alternative-rock majesty that slinks somewhere in the shadows between the repertoires of Jane Weaver, Nadine Shah and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, it’s a song that oozes-with a purposeful sexual energy.
As Yumi And The Weather explains:
“We are sexual creatures and it’s been suppressed through either some religions, society, and even ourselves because of confidence or/and lack of opportunities. This song is inspired by the beautiful and comfortable sexual encounters I had, and is a playful expression to represent these moments.”
Available now on Yumi’s sophomore effort, “Be Your Lover” is one of 10 illuminescent indie-rock tracks that make new album ‘It’s All In My Head’ shimmer from head-to-toe. From the ecstatic psych-rock opener (“Imagine”) to its dreamy, dissolving climax (“Night Walk”); like life itself, these are rollercoaster songs that will take you through the highest highs to the lowest lows, while spiralling through every emotional corkscrew on the way through.
Featuring BBC6 Music and Radio X supported singles including the confessional “Can You Tell” and the darkly exhilarating title-track, ‘It’s All In My Head’ has also been receiving early praise from the likes of The Soundboard who championed the album as one that “paints Taylor as an artist ready for an enormous jump up the indie ladder”, whereas At The Barrier hailed it as “an album guaranteed to challenge and excite the emotions of any serious listener”.

Beth Nielsen Chapman – Navigating Chaos
Grammy-nominated Beth Nielsen Chapman releases double A-side single ‘Walk You To Heaven / The Universe’ – the next offering from new album ‘CrazyTown’, out 23rd September 2022 via Cooking Vinyl.
Born out of a day’s writing with Kimmie Rhodes and Mindy Smith, ‘Walk You To Heaven’ is a beautiful and comforting goodbye to a loved one.
It serves as the closing track on the upcoming album and showcases Beth’s talent of conveying difficult emotions in a beautiful melody. ‘We were talking about the depth and beauty of the songs written by John Prine and his body of work and how exquisitely simple he could be while also bringing us to such a rich place with his lyrics,’ says Beth. ‘He had just passed not long before the day we were writing this song and we sent up an invitation to Heaven for him to feel free to send down any hints on how to write it.’
As for ‘The Universe’, another song written with Kimmie Rhodes, Beth describes it as ‘“Jumpin Jack Flash” meets Tom Petty on “The Last Train to Clarksville”’. This blistering blues rock track hurtles along as it takes a look at our world and beyond. The chaotic musicality of it matches with the scale of its themes: ‘It was just such a big idea and it covered so much territory (thus the title). It’s about what we’ve done to the earth and the way that the earth so brilliantly operates from the center of its own deep wisdom and how its creatures (including us) are “trapped in the forces and synchronistic consequences of the universe.”’ – Beth
Produced by the celebrated 5-time Grammy Award winner Ray Kennedy (who’s worked with everyone from Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, and Shania Twain, to John Mellencamp and Taylor Swift) ‘Walk You To Heaven / The Universe’ is the third release from ‘CrazyTown’ following previous singles ‘With Time’ and ‘Hey Girl (We Can Deal With It)’. The new album, out this September combines elements of classic rock, blues and pop to great effect. It’s a deeply personal collection, exploring themes of navigating the ups and downs of life and love, but, as with all Beth’s albums – still with plenty of light at the end of the tunnel.
“It’s about navigating chaos” says Beth. “How, even despite everything being crazy, on some level one can trust that things are in divine order and that we will be OK. There’s a lot of groove and joy and fun on this album, along with a couple of deep dive ballads.”
Beth Nielsen Chapman is an artist with many accolades to her name: mega-hit ‘This Kiss’, sung by Faith Hill, was ASCAP’s 1999 Song of The Year, garnered a Grammy nomination and Nashville NAMMY’s 1999 Songwriter of the Year. Beth also received a special award by The Alabama Music Hall of Fame and was the recipient of The Distinguished Artist Award from the Alabama State Council on the Arts in 2009 and in October of 2016, Beth was inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, one she considers to be the highest honour she’s ever received. In 2019 Beth was invited to become an Ambassador for the Buddy Holly Educational Foundation.
SONS OF THE EAST – A Joyous Album Release
Australian underdogs, SONS OF THE EAST have released their highly-anticipated debut album Palomar Parade.
Soulful and melodic, the album is the band’s unique take on celebrating the untidy chaos of everyday life, transcending genre while staying true to the band’s timeless style.
Speaking about the record, Sons of the East say:
“Palomar Parade is all of our favourite songs written over the last two years. Some came to us in a day, some came to us over the course of a year, but all of them shone in the sometimes-brutal process of making a record.”
To commemorate the release today, Sons of the East have also premiered this video for the featured highlight: “Another Night”. Arriving with visuals that showcase the killer live show, the footage is captured from their time on the road touring extensively across the UK and Europe over the last few weeks.

Sons of the East may be the biggest band you’ve not yet heard of. An under-the-radar success story, racking up hundreds of millions of streams and selling out shows across Europe, North America and Australia without ever straying from their independent roots. Growing up on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, bandmates Dan Wallage, Nic Johnston and Jack Rollins have amassed an impressive 300 million streams, touring extensively across the globe selling over 30,000 headline tickets and performing to an estimated 100,000+ people to date.
Starting out with “just a handful of songs and a great live show”, the band have gained a reputation for their stellar live performances, accruing a dedicated and truly global fanbase through multiple sold out tours reaching all corners of the world.
Drawing on classic folk and country blues influences including Bob Dylan, The Band, Neil Young and British heroes The Rolling Stones and The Kinks, the band’s motley acoustic-electric sound has become a unique and charismatic trademark: soulful, joyous and irresistible.
“For us this album doesn’t represent just one theme. We wanted to create a record that explores multiple ideas and transcends the traditional boundaries of genre. Being human is a messy business. It’s painful, it’s joyous, it’s mundane, it’s exciting. The process of creating this album was a similar experience, and we can’t wait to take these songs to the stage.”
With a mutual love of surfing [and Jack Johnson], Sons Of The East’s songs resonate with an understated elegance that often belies a deeper emotional punch, gliding effortlessly across genres. The haunting harmonica of You Might Think against a deep and insistent beat evokes memories of classic Springsteen. Not All My Fault is a stripped bare soul duet between vocal and piano while Another Night is destined to be another stomping live anthem.
“We love that dynamic of a heartbreaker to a stomper with the audience singing every lyric. It gets wild and it’s so much fun.”
Palomar Parade is a reflection of time and place in the band’s career and friendship. As the band add:
“This album was recorded in a number of different places around Sydney, but we took the name of the album from our final (and favourite) recording location. The Palomar Parade studio had us at our most productive, spending the days writing and recording these tracks in between coffee breaks and surf checks. For us the greatest luxury was not having a high tech studio, but a space close to home with some sun and plenty of time to be creative.”
The band are mid-way through their world tour having sold out shows in London, Paris, Amsterdam, Toronto and Boston to date, tickets for remaining shows available from: www.sonsoftheeast.com.

SONS OF THE EAST – ‘PALOMAR PARADE’ – OUT NOW
Big Time Special Effects Company – Surrealistic Intention
The debut single “Loose Meat” from Big Time Special Effects Company is out now.
Alternative Funk-Metal experimentalist Big Time Special Effects Company releases a debut single titled “Loose Meat” today (September 23, 2022). It can be heard on all streaming platforms as well as on Bandcamp.
A smorgasbord of playfully bizarre music created with a dreamt up ‘golden ratio’ where lyrics are written to baffle and rhythms played to inspire strange dance moves. This debut single in part gives a shout out to our barnyard friends: pigs. One pig in general, a ‘dirty little piggy’ is the subject of observation by quirky melody lines that are sung with effect-laden vocals.
The experimentalism continues as slap and tap bass riffs hammer out propulsive instrumental insanity adding heavy compliments to the biting imagination sung or rapped through the microphone with surrealistic intention.
The track “Loose Meat” is BTSEC’s first ever song release and lays down the groundwork for future endeavors. This new song is primarily a bass guitar driven vehicle; the guitar does make an appearance when its time to simulate squealing pigs or add ambiguity with swelling dissonant noise textures but otherwise BTSEC lets the low-end do the instrumental talking. Synthesizer environments even out the depth and help further develop a world of ominous abstraction best suited for minds that enjoy being left to ponder their art experience.
SARO COSENTINO – FULL OF PORTENT
‘The Joke’ was recently made available as a teaser song from the new album by the Italian composer and producer Saro Cosentino. Co-written with prog legend Peter Hammill and featuring his distinctive lead vocal, it is full of portent with a lyric about the corporate greed and consumer habits that directly affect climate change.
A video for it has been issued today that Cosentino says “is pretty self-explanatory. Only a fool would set fire to his own home, but that is what we are doing. We are on a path of self destruction and need to change our priorities and reconsider our values as a society without having ‘produce/consume/die’ as a motto.”
The third solo album by Cosentino, ‘The Road To Now’ features singers Peter Hammill (on four songs), Tim Bowness (of No Man) and Karen Eden, plus instrumental contributions from the likes of Gavin Harrison, David Rhodes, John Giblin and Trey Gunn. Available on heavyweight colour vinyl, CD and digital formats, it is the long-awaited follow-up to 1997’s acclaimed ‘Ones And Zeros’.
Born in Rome but currently based in Prague, Cosentino formed a blues outfit in his late teens but soon became more interested in experimental and electronic music, beginning a lengthy association with the popular Italian singer-songwriter Franco Battiato, who had been juggling his own love of the avant-garde with record company pressure to produce ‘hits’. The duo co-wrote Italy’s entry to the 1984 Eurovision Song Contest (which Battiato performed in the competition) and collaborated on two operas later in the decade.

Cosentino released a self-titled debut solo album on EMI in 1988 prior to successfully dividing his time between composing film/TV soundtracks and writing for/producing numerous international artists that have included Peter Hammill, David Rhodes, Tim Bowness, Pandit Dinesh, Tony Levin, Natasha Atlas, Jakko Jakszyk and Gavin Harrison, as well as further work with Battiato plus other compatriots such as Milva and Alice.
‘The Road To Now’ was recorded in the UK and US as well as at Cosentino’s own studio in Prague, with final mixing taking place at Real World in Bath. The opening ‘You’re The Story’ sees the soothing voice of Tim Bowness matched with a suitably sumptuous yet melancholic backdrop, followed immediately by ‘The Joke’, the first of four superb songs featuring the unmistakable tones of legendary prog singer Peter Hammill. ‘November’ (on which Bowness provides a backing vocal) is a tale of long lost love, the outstanding ‘Time To Go’ contemplates the very end of the road (hopefully a long time from now), while the closing ‘When Your Parents Danced’ considers the first central figures in one’s life in their younger days, ‘before life’s stories made them what they’ve become’.
Having contributed to ‘Ones and Zeros’, as well as records by the likes of William Orbit and Chris Rea, the versatile Australian singer Karen Eden returns to perform on two contrasting tracks; the portentous sounding ‘Pray’ and (by way of contrast to everything else on the record), the pop song ‘Us (Scars on Skin)’. The album also contains the instrumental ‘Howl’, which switches from strident to atmospheric midway through and showcases the skills of the musicians involved.

SARCATOR – Exploring New Territories
Sweden’s new hope when it comes to thrash metal is spelled Sarcator, and on October 21 the band from Trollhattan will release their highly anticipated sophomore album “Alkahest”
on Black Lion Records.
Being only between 17 and 23 years old, the four young gentlemen of Sarcator started with Metallica covers and after working on their own material, they went to Studio-MT in
their hometown to record their debut album, which was released in November 2020 via Redefining Darkness.
Just a few months after the release they got nominated to ‘Best Swedish Metal Group’ for the 2021 edition of the radio listeners award “P3 Guld”. Even if they lost out to LIK it was still a major confirmation that the band is on the right path. The music is heavily inspired by Metallica, Slayer as well as the German teutonic thrash metal wave and melodic death metal like The Crown and At The Gates. The Crown influences probably came by birth as the line-up features The Crown’s Marko Tervonen’s son Mateo Tervonen. This is the kind of death thrash that most old school fans live for.
Sarcator is:
Felix Lindkvist – Bass & Backing Vocals
Mateo Tervonen – Vocals & Guitar
Emil Eriksson – Rhythm Guitar & Backing Vocals
Jesper Rosén – Drums
Here and now, a few years later, the band’s second album is about to be released,
showing a more mature sound as well as a greater influence from bands like Dissection
and Morbid Angel.
“On the new album Alkahest, we kept progressing forward in our approach, with new territories explored. It is a heartfelt album with a broader palette of influences and inspiration.”
Recorded, Mixed, & Mastered by Marko Tervonen at Studio-MT, Trollhattan, Sweden.
Guitars, Bass, and Vocals tracked at Studio-MT, Trollhattan, Sweden. Drums tracked at Studio N3, Trollhattan, Sweden.
