JESSE MALIN UK / EUROPEAN TOUR 2023 celebrating THE FINE ART OF SELF DESTRUCTION.

New York based Jesse Malin is marking twenty years as a solo artist with a UK and European tour to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of his acclaimed 2003 debut album ‘The Fine Art Of Self Destruction’.

Malin and his band will perform the album in its entirety, as well as songs from his current album ‘Sad and Beautiful World’ (2021) and more. Special guest Tommy Stinson of The Replacements will provide support.

The tour follows Malin’s 2022 performance at Glastonbury, a run of shows with Brian Fallon and sold-out headlining dates. Tickets are on sale now (see itinerary below).

‘The Fine Art Of Self Destruction’ will be reissued in early 2023 with a bonus disc of the entire album re-recorded and reimagined. Full release details will follow shortly.

After spending his teenage years in the pioneering hardcore band Heart Attack and his 20s fronting the wild and beloved D Generation, Malin took a cue from his songwriting heroes and was ready for a chance to stand alone. ‘The Fine Art Of Self Destruction’ was recorded live and raw over six days in New York City. “It wasn’t named for drug or alcohol abuse,” explains Malin. “It was more about personal wreckage when I looked back on my life, from my parents’ divorce to failed relationships, broken up bands, dropping out of school, crashing cars, breaking things. It was more of a spiritual journey in some sense.”

He continues: “I was still learning how to sing and tell stories. I had started out stripped down, just me and a piano player, but when Ryan Adams came in to produce, he added some instrumentation that really lent itself to a more open, wider feel. These songs were written in a little apartment downtown, without a record deal, a manager, or any expectation of anything coming of it – just a need to write them.”

he original album was released to rave reviews, with The Times stating that “Malin writes vivid songs with killer tunes and sings them with scary conviction. There is simply nothing more you can demand from a great rock record.”

Isle of Wight quintet PLASTIC MERMAIDS will embark on a UK headline tour in November 2022.

Kicking off in Bristol on 2 November, the 11 date album tour will round off at London’s Village Underground on 15 November. Having forged an esteemed live reputation, with emphatic sets at Glastonbury and Camp Bestival under their belts from earlier this year, the run will also see the full band joined in London by a string section and backing singers.

The November tour follows the release of the band’s acclaimed second full-length album ‘It’s Not Comfortable to Grow’, out now via Sunday Best. A profound and emotional exploration of the many facets of heartbreak, the record sees the endlessly inventive Isle of Wight five-piece facing up to their dark side and was praised in a 5* review by The Independent for “Its compositional brilliance and, contradicting the title, proof this band are evolving in spectacular fashion”. It features the singles ‘Girl Boy Girl’, ‘Disposable Love’, ‘Something Better’ and ‘Elastic Time’, which received multiple plays on BBC 6 Music, including a premiere on Lauren Laverne’s show.

The creative force at the heart of Plastic Mermaids is Douglas and Jamie Richards, two brothers who approach life like an art project. THE WANNADIES – Back With A Bang

Swedish alt-rock stars THE WANNADIES have announced a show at London’s Islington Assembly Hall for 3 November 2022.

THE WANNADIES are legends by its very definition- hailing from Skellefteå, formed in the late 80s, the group brought Swedish alt-rock to UK shores, like no other band, transforming both the British, and Swedish music scene in their stead. Described as ‘classic Britpop from beginning to end’.

Their third album ‘Be A Girl’, received acclaim for its bright, glossy sound, and its longstanding cultural presence. Singles such as ‘You And Me Song’ and ‘Might Be The Stars’ became instant classics, still receiving wide-spread airplay even years on. The 1997 album ‘Bagsy Me’ the group approach their initial sound with a fresh perspective. Using more heavy-rock elements and a newfound brashness, the album saw tracks like ‘Hit’ and ‘Shorty’ topped the charts upon release, further cementing the group’s star-power within the UK music scene. Alongside their initial rise to success, The Wannadies went onto win crowds’ hearts around the nation, becoming known for their infectious stage presence and unmissable live sets.

Despite a brief hiatus, in recent memory the band have been more active as ever, releasing their latest single ‘Can’t Kill the Musikk’ in September 2020. A track that was originally penned in 2002, but not completed until last year, the track contains all the fun of the group’s sound, with charging guitars leading the way, and infectious vocal harmonies creating a rousing atmosphere that is sure to inspire all who listen.

**Featuring two members of the Seattle-based collective High Pulp, sunking are indie jazz alchemists who incorporate indie-rock, electronic and hip-hop elements into a jazz framework.**

sunking, a duo comprised of Bobby Granfelt and keyboardist Antoine Martel, sunking have today announced an 18th November release date for ‘Smug’, their second album but first with ANTI- Records. The groundwork for the album is drawn from a series of freewheeling, lo-fi drum sessions while the horn and keyboard-fuelled arrangements on top are part of a vision for the band’s sound that has been evolving ever since the release of their self-titled debut in 2019.

“There are elements of jazz, indie-rock, hip-hop and electronic music, but ultimately sunking is all about exploring the nooks and crannies between those genres, about throwing out all of the rules and expectations in search of something completely fresh and original,” says drummer Bobby Granfelt.

The band have also made the album tracks ‘Bad Habits’ and ‘Glitch/Spy’ available as a single today to coincide with the album announcement. This follows the September release of ‘My Mind Is An Oven’ and ‘Uncle Kane’.

Commitment is the name of the game for Granfelt and Martel, who first bonded over a shared love of progressive jazz, punk, shoegaze and underground electronic music while still in high school. Over the years, the powerhouse drummer and keyboard wizard would collaborate in a variety of configurations, most notably as members of the sprawling Seattle collective High Pulp, who have gained a cult worldwide following.

High Pulp earned rave reviews in several UK publications for their recent ‘Pursuit Of Ends’ album, with The Times comparing them to Snarky Puppy in showing that “disparate influences can combine if a unifying spirit is behind it. Here it’s the brilliant drummer Bobby Granfelt.” Elsewhere, Jazzwise praised its “melding of Miles’ 1970s fusion experiments with rich Ellingtonian orchestrated majesty and non-jazz elements taken from the likes of Aphex Twin and My Bloody Valentine,” while Prog summarised it as “the epitome of cool modern jazz with depth and complexity,” and Record Collector described it as “organic, marinating fusion, new wave and R&B with spiritual jazz into a quixotic brew.”

However, sunking has always remained distinct from any of the pair’s other projects, in large part because it has always remained just the two of them. “There is a bit more of a loose, shoot-from-the-hip approach that we are comfortable taking as a duo,” explains Granfelt. “I’ve always loved music that was rough around the edges – Alex G, Guided by Voices, Modest Mouse – and we don’t shy away from that kind of grit. We’ll just throw up a couple of microphones and start recording anywhere: a studio, a bedroom, a moving vehicle, it doesn’t matter.”

“We have a bit of a telepathic thing going on where we don’t even need to speak to communicate at this point, either” adds Martel. “With sunking, there are fewer filters between us and the music.”

K-pop solo star JACKSON WANG will be bringing his MAGIC MAN WORLD TOUR to London this January.

As part of the artist’s first ever solo headline tour, Jackson Wang will be heading to the UK for the show at London Eventim Apollo on 12 January 2023

The tour announcement follows the wildly successful sophomore album ‘MAGIC MAN’ which is out now. The album features 10 tracks including the newly released “Blue” and previously released “Blow” and “Cruel”, both of which were described as having “a dark and plodding swagger” by People.

With a career spanning nearly four decades, Beth proves she’s still as vital as ever with what stands as her 15^th album.

Throughout her career, Beth has been in demand as a keynote speaker and teacher of workshops on creativity, songwriting, grief, and healing through art, using a unique inspiring approach to tapping into the creative process. She has also taught at Universities internationally including the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama, The Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, and the Berklee School of Music among others.

Foul Body Autopsy – Shadows Without Light: Part 3 The Conclusion To The Journey

The journey has been long. It has taken me through shadowed vales of despair, arid deserts of loneliness and echoing chasms of black, impenetrable grief. I have passed beneath the naked boughs of the wood of suicides and swum the cold waters of Lethe, losing a part of myself with every stroke. And now at the end of this last passage through the deep chambers of the earth I find I have a choice, when all along I thought that choice had gone. I can walk on, out into the light…or I can turn back into the dark, back to the chill shades of night which have become my comfortless home. And I don’t know which way to turn…

Back in the autumn of 2021 Tom Reynolds, the man that is Foul Body Autopsy, began his long walk through a grieving process; a process which he decided to chart through a trilogy of EPs. The Shadows Without Light recordings have laid bare Tom’s pain and loss to the world – the simple, underlying aim of the project remaining unchanged since he first announced his intentions... “maybe it can help someone else along the way.” As we reach the final part of this brave odyssey it seems certain that such emotionally honest music will have connected powerfully with many who have found themselves at different stages of their own battles with bereavement. However the Shadows Without Light EPs will have thrilled as many as they have consoled – the power of Foul Body Autopsy’s trademark precision death metal, wreathed in emotive melody and driven by fierce conviction, being never more complete and convincing than on these ambitious releases. Part 3 offers up two versions of its core track – the magnificently intense original mix and the challenging, transformative Plan 9 mix. Tom Reynolds has portrayed the essential heart of Foul Body Autopsy and pushed beyond the boundaries of that sound with two tracks that compliment and complete each other, creating the most successful and suitably climactic part of the Shadows Without Light saga.

Looking back on the project which has consumed the last year of his life Tom reflects... “Working on the trilogy has been an interesting yet challenging experience. But I feel each part has been better than the last. I haven't gotten round to listening to them all back-to-back to see how it all fits together though. I am considering playing all three death metal tracks back-to-back live. I'm happy that it's finished and I can move on to a different project that's possibly a little simpler as the trilogy was a lot of stress, especially after all the press that Pt.1 had.” While Shadows Without Light will still have a role to play in his immediate future plans, he is also starting to think about those first steps out into the light... “My plan now is to play as many gigs as possible, as well as some festivals if they will have me, in support of the trilogy as a whole. I will possibly try out some new songs at these gigs as well to see how they work live. I haven't done that in years so it will be a good way of road testing the new songs.”

Shadows Without Light Part 3 was once again produced by Russ Russell (Amorphis, At The Gates, Napalm Death etc) and the last part of the triptych of stunning artwork was, as with the previous two, created by Arif Rot of Wormrot. On November 4th prepare to take the final steps in this incredible journey as a remarkable chapter in the Foul Body Autopsy story comes to a close.
