DAN AUERBACH RELEASES NEVER-HEARD SOLO TRACK ‘EVERY CHANCE I GET (I WANT YOU IN THE FLESH)’.

Easy Eye Sound — the Nashville based label headed by Dan Auerbach and named Billboard’s 2022 Blues Label Of The Year — has spent the past six years not only preserving the blues, but uplifting unsung voices in the genre and, in the process, building a thriving, multigenerational community that has earned 16 GRAMMY® nods, 4 Billboard #1 Blues Albums and widespread acclaim.

Easy Eye Sound have released an all-new solo track from Dan Auerbach — the label head, The Black Keys frontman, and 2023 GRAMMY-nominated Producer Of The Year himself. Titled ‘Every Chance I Get (I Want You In The Flesh)’, the insistent instrumental drone on Auerbach’s solo track will remind some listeners of Canned Heat’s 1967 recording ‘On the Road Again’ — “I loved that song as a kid,” says Auerbach — which itself borrowed from Chicago bluesman Floyd Jones’ ‘Dark Road’ (1953) and its inspiration, Mississippi Delta deity Tommy Johnson’s ‘Big Road Blues’ (1928).

‘Every Chance I Get (I Want You In The Flesh)’ is the latest preview of Easy Eye Sound’s upcoming blues anthology, Tell Everybody! (out August 11), which surveys the modern blues scene and is composed of exclusive, Auerbach-produced recordings from Easy Eye Sound Studios.

Billie Eilish releases “What Was I Made For?” [From The Motion Picture “Barbie”] (Darkroom/Interscope Records), taken from the highly anticipated feature-length film, Barbie, written and directed by Greta Gerwig, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken, and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.

“What Was I Made For?” [From The Motion Picture “Barbie”] was composed especially for Barbie by Billie Eilish alongside her brother FINNEAS who produced the track at his home-studio in Los Angeles. The intimate and heart-rending track exists as the sonic background for pivotal scenes through-out the film, while beautifully and poignantly highlighting the film’s important message and sentiment. Princess Goes – Demanding Attention

Confirming a new album and a European Tour – Princess Goes – the electronic project of Michael C. Hall, Peter Yanowitz and Matt Katz-Bohen – will return this Autumn.

Back with the follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2021 debut ‘THANKS FOR COMING’, the trio will begin their next chapter with ‘Come of Age’, an eleven-track record due for release on 15th September, via the SO In De Goot label.

The announcement today arrives with the unveiling of the first single from the album, “Shimmer”, which is available to stream now. A track ultimately about connection and humanity’s existential need to be heard; it’s a pulsing, interstellar, cinematic epic that demands your attention.

Speaking about the new single, Princess Goes say:

“If ‘Shimmer’ sounds like it was written in a fever dream it’s because it basically was. The chord progression originated from a simple bass line and floor tom beat and it evolved from there, building on its own momentum, like an argument that is heating up. For the most part, in Princess Goes we’ve eschewed traditional song structures whenever possible, both lyrically and musically, in favour of a more experimental approach, kinda like musical poems. In ‘Shimmer’ the lyrics slip out like a secret, like something from the subconscious, with absolutely no regard (or use) for verses or choruses, instead they seem to be mostly concerned with conveying this very human need to be heard.”

“Shimmer” is accompanied with an official video by Tim Richardson; a science-fiction inspired adventure that evokes the retro-futuristic virtual realities of Tron or Ready Player One.

Following a successful first tour of the UK and Ireland at the end of 2021, Princess Goes can confirm they will be returning to tour their upcoming album ‘Come of Age’ at a series of UK & European headline shows. Kicking off in Manchester Club Academy on 26th September and closing at London’s Earth venue on 8th October in the UK, the 10 date run also includes appearances in France, Germany, Belgium and The Netherlands.

Nate Smith – Burning Up The Charts

Breakout star and powerhouse vocalist Nate Smith has debuted his fiery music video for his latest single ‘World On Fire‘.

In the video directed by Chris Ashlee, Smith is surrounded by flames as he belts the rock-infused anthem with his fire from within vocals.

Smith, who is currently opening for Thomas Rhett on his HOME TEAM TOUR 2023, wanted the video to encapsulate his live performance. “I was thrilled when Chris Ashlee turned in the treatment for the music video because it would give fans an idea of what the energy is like at a live show!” he said.

He added, “I wrote ‘World On Fire’ alongside Ashley Gorley, Taylor Phillips, and producer Lindsay Rimes. The song touches on aspects of the 2018 Camp Fire in Paradise, CA, but is used as a metaphor for a failed relationship.” Originally from Paradise, Smith lost everything he owned in the tragedy, which is now known as the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in the state’s history.

Smith, who is known for his “strong voice that grips a lyric with ferocity” (Billboard), was nominated for NEW MALE ARTIST OF THE YEAR at the 58th ACM Awards in addition to his 2023 CMT Awards nomination for BREAKTHROUGH MALE VIDEO OF THE YEAR for his Platinum-certified No.1 hit ‘Whiskey On You’. The smash single topped the country radio charts for two weeks in a row earlier this year, following its record breaking six-week run at No. 1 on the country radio charts in Canada – making the song the longest running No. 1 country debut by a male vocalist in their chart history. Maple Glider – The Girl Can’t Help It

Maple Glider, the project of Naarm/Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Tori Zietsch, has detailed her anticipated second album ‘I Get Into Trouble’, out October 13th 2023 via Pieater (Australia) and Partisan (rest of world).

To coincide with the announcement, Maple Glider has shared album highlight “Dinah” paired with a devilishly irreverent video, made with principal creative collaborator and live bandmate Bridgette Winten, full of colourful costumes and ridiculous props.

“Dinah” fully embraces the pop side of Maple Glider’s trademark psych-folk like never before, but pairs it with lyrics that turn the song into what she considers the scariest – and perhaps angriest – thing she’s ever released. The titular Dinah refers to the bible story ‘Dinah Gets Into Trouble,’ where a young woman is victim-blamed for being sexually assaulted. In the song, Maple Glider expertly dissects the double standards within her own experience growing up in Christianity; and the accusations levelled at “non-believers” whilst the church itself was not a safe space.

Says Zietsch: “For me, “Dinah” is the scariest thing I’ve ever put out. It’s probably the most pop feeling song I’ve released, but it’s really quite an angry song. I have felt incredibly disturbed and frustrated and sad in the process of writing and putting it together. I wanted the video to be fast paced, colourful, and full of energy, the same kind of riled up energy I had when I wrote the song. But it also had to be silly, because I can’t help that.”

‘I Get Into Trouble’ is a thematic expansion of Maple Glider’s 2021 debut LP ‘To Enjoy is the Only Thing’, going into greater and clearer detail, as she delves back into her Christian childhood while deconstructing her relationship to her body, alongside concepts of consent and shame. Throughout the album, she draws parallels between religion and sexuality in novelistic detail, before landing on a note of hopeful optimism, and embracing a new life of peacefulness. “This album feels more like an opening up because there are things I wasn’t feeling ready to publicly share through songs, but now I finally feel ready,” she says.

Ultimately, ‘I Get Into Trouble’ is the sound of alchemized pain. In each song, Zietsch transmutes tribulation and confusion into clarity and deep insight. She combines the infectious folk-pop hooks of her debut with a sense of scale and scope. It’s tight in all the right places, freeform, wiley and compositionally eclectic, playful, and erratic in others. The album was recorded with the same small team as its predecessor – Tom Iansek (#1 Dads, Big Scary, The Paper Kites) producing and mixing, and touring member Jim Rindfleish (Mildlife) on drums.

ENJOYABLE LISTENS – Mellow And Melodramatic

Avant-garde pop anti-hero – ENJOYABLE LISTENS – is pleased to present his latest single, and self-fulfilling prophecy, “Summer Hit”.

Enjoyable Listens is a man, a machine and an enigma wrapped in a ball of mysterious dark wool. Having built an indie-rock-solid foundation using only melody, mayhem and an admirable ability to croon a series of pop smashes whilst teetering on a bar stool, new single “Summer Hit” sees the infallible actor continuing to warm to the task.

Funnelling inebriated ‘80s theatricality through luxurious layers of molten melodies and sun-dappled dreamhouse-ery, Enjoyable Listens aka Luke Duffett explains:

“The original “Summer Hit” demo was the first thing I ever self-recorded. I wrote it during lockdown, and its name comes from a to-do list I had on the 9th April 2020 which read:

Make focaccia

Write summer hit

Complete Ratchet and Clank 3”

While his attempts at gymnastics, baking and gaming may not have been quite so fruitful, “Summer Hit” certainly ticks the box. Re-recorded with Joseph Futák and Elanor Moss on backing vocals, the new track features a heady amalgam of mellotron, seagull noises and an aromatic indie-swooning that feels just as mellow as it does melodramatic.

2022 marked a breakthrough year for Enjoyable Listens, with the release of debut album ‘The Enjoyable Listen’, countless live shows at the likes of SXSW, The Great Escape and Focus Wales, and a tour of the Home Counties with – yes – Home Counties. Throw in a victorious run of headline shows at the likes of Dream Bags Jaguar Shoes, The Shacklewell Arms and The Lexington and the (very) odd support slot for Antarctic Monkeys, and Enjoyable Listens truly forged a reputation as a troubadour for all occasions.

New single “Summer Hit” follows the chilled ‘80s pop embrace of “That’s Where The Blood Is” and the deadpan delights of “Dead Frozen” as Enjoyable Listens’ third offering since the release of his expressionistically epic debut and, true to manic and hyperactive form, the artist has racked up a rather bizarre array of comparisons. Drawing references to the likes of Nick Cave, Jarvis Cocker and Rick Astley amongst others, the artist’s live show was praised as “fabulous” by Louder Than War who enthused: “we have in front of us Bruce Forsyth singing with The Divine Comedy, a new Mr Showbiz sat somewhere between The Rhythm Method and Elvis”.

Elsewhere, he has also attracted support from Steve Lamacq and Tom Robinson on BBC Radio 6, as well as BBC Introducing and Radio X’s John Kennedy, with the latter proclaiming: “your year isn’t complete if you haven’t seen Enjoyable Listens.”

Now, as “Summer Hit” sees Enjoyable Listens limber up for another year filled with live shows, fans will be able to catch the artist playing across the UK over the coming months. Tian Qiyi feat. Jah Wobble – A Unique Blend

Tian Qiyi have announced the release of their new album Red Mist, which is coming out September 29^th via Pagoda Arts.

To coincide with the announcement, the duo have released the captivating new single ‘Incantation’, which fuses electric Jazz with traditional Chinese instrumentation.

Comprising of brothers John Tian Qi Wardle and Charlie Tian Yi Wardle, Red Mist sees the pair explore a myriad of sound through their innovative and unique blend of traditional Chinese music with contemporary sounds. “Me and my brother focus on music made in the moment. We like to keep it spontaneous.” says Charlie.

“With the album we focused on blending a few different sounds, the one of our upbringing, tradition Chinese music, as well as Jazz, psychedelic and post punk.” John adds.

The album also features their father, Jah Wobble, a prominent bass player who has collaborated with various musicians such as Brian Eno, Bill Laswell and Bjork. Discussing Tian Qiyi and the new album Wobble says, “As my career inexorably comes to its close, my sons are taking the mantle.”

Born and raised in England, John and Charlie were exposed to a diverse range of musical styles and traditions from a young age. Their mother, Zilan Liao, is a skilled and globally respected guzheng player from Guangzhou China, who has performed at various events and concerts across the world and has influenced their musical style immensely and led to the formation Tian Qiyi and share their innovative musical style with the world.

Red Mist showcases their creative approach to music-making and ability to seamlessly blend genre and sound through a range of tracks that are both energetic and danceable and haunting and reflective, demonstrating their versatility as musicians.

The new album also serves a testament to their talent and hard work and their commitment to preserving the essence of traditional Chinese music while infusing it with modern, contemporary and experimental sounds that push boundaries and make it exciting.

In the heart of Liverpool and the oldest China Town in the UK is the Pagoda Arts Centre, where this month, the Pagoda Orchestra celebrates it’s 40^th Anniversary.

As part of the celebrations, Tian Qiyi will be performing this Saturday 15^th July alongside Jah Wobble and the Pagoda Orchestra at the Tung Auditorium in Liverpool to honour K.H. Li, the orchestra’s founder, and John and Charlie’s grandfather.

Rising Manchester indie-pop four-piece – SOUTH BY ZERO – have unveiled a striking new video for recent single “Open Arms” (out now).

Recorded by the band and their friends at the Screen and Film School Manchester, the new video sees playful performance shots pitted against more affecting moments of introspection.

Of the new video, the band explain:

“We wanted to create a lot of contrast with this video visually to emphasise the meaning of the song — mixed feelings and wanting to be someone else for the person you love. We had a lot of fun making it!”

A fun-filled slice of plucky and poignant alt-pop that glistens with a breezy charm well beyond their years, “Open Arms” explores the misgivings and misdeeds that come along with navigating the minefield of adolescent relationships.

Blending crisp pop production with lush melodies, confessional lyrics and an infectious, folky feel, South By Zero add that the track is about “still feeling attached to an ex-lover, despite seeing somebody new”

South By Zero are Matt Bawtree (lead vocals/guitar), Tomas Farrington (drums), Emma Halpin (vocals/keys) and George Burton (vocals/guitar/bass). Seamlessly blending mainstream pop with elements of folk and rock, the band’s story began in 2020 when school friends Matt and George started performing together in their South Coast hometowns. Co-writing songs about the teenage experience and the trials and tribulations of first loves, the pair used two guitars and endless vocal harmonies to establish the original South By Zero sound.

After moving to Manchester in 2021, the duo joined forces with Tomas and quickly began playing at well-established venues across the city. South By Zero released their debut EP ‘Behind These Walls’ in 2022 and, after seeking a change in dynamic and sound, invited Emma to join the band at the beginning of this year.

Now a four-piece, the band are quickly becoming an unstoppable force on the Manchester music scene with their distinctive alt-pop sound that melds together each of their own personal tastes and talents.Plucking influence from the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Talking Heads and The 1975 amongst others, they have played a string of headline shows to-date and have had their live set praised as ‘“fantastic” by One Love Records.

With “Open Arms” marking the beginning of a new chapter for the quartet, fans will also be able to catch them performing live in the UK this Summer. Following a set at Folkestone’s Parkfest earlier this Summer, the band are now sizing up headline shows in Folkestone and Manchester later this year. Fans in the Kent area will also be able to catch South By Zero busking together on the streets of Canterbury throughout the coming weeks (Matt and George’s home town). Ahead of releasing his ‘Fear Pageant’ album – his seventh to date – via Seattle label Disc Drive, alternative folk-leaning indie rock artist Fred Abong presents his latest single and video for ‘My Way’.

Though just as impressive, this is quite a different beast than the lead track ‘Father’.

This follows Abong’s 2022 ‘Yellowthroat’ album, recorded with Rob Ahlers (50FOOTWAVE, Kristin Hersh Electric Trio). Here, Abong – a Filipino-American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist – upholds his reputation for creating music that is a blend of “ragged Replacements and lyric-driven Bob Dylan” and “Elliott Smith with balls”.

Currently based in New Orleans, Fred Abong got his musical start in the 1980’s on Rhode Island as a drummer, bassist and guitarist in various hardcore punk bands. He spent the early 1990s playing bass for Throwing Muses and then Belly. He then put music as a profession on hold for academic pursuits, earning a PhD in Humanities and serving as a professor at various universities for eight years before returning to music.

Continuing as a solo artist, Abong’s music has a raw and unpolished production aesthetic with an overall direct, though deceptively imaginative and oblique, presentation. Apart from his work as a solo artist, Fred Abong is also currently bassist in the Kristin Hersh Electric Trio and has also been a practicing Vedic astrologer for the past 20 plus years.

“Unlike the Sinatra song of the same name, this is not a manifesto of self-determination or a reflection on individualism and world-beating fearlessness. It’s also not a send-up of that attitude or sentiment. My ‘My Way’ is, accidentally, closer to the subject matter (but not the sentiment) of the original French version of the Sinatra song. In the French version, of which I only recently became aware, the gradual erosion of marriage and love by the crushing boredom of mundane life is the focus,” says Fred Abong.

His songs are existentially and romantically focused, poetic, and slightly off-kilter. Detuned guitars, unconventional song structures, and a raw and unpolished production aesthetic characterize the overall sound. Fred’s hypnotic, sometimes gravelly voice adds to the effect.

‘My Way’ is out now across fine music platforms, including Bandcamp, where the ‘Fear Pageant’ album is now available to order. On July 20, it will be released on vinyl or as a digital download.
