Teenage Werewolves – Some New Kind Of Kick? (Live Review)
In a world pulsating with feverish anticipation, a cosmic tapestry of wonder unfurls right before your very eyes as the Teenage Werewolves descend upon the unsuspecting multitudes!
Inside the hallowed sanctum of Islington Academy, an electric fervour courses through the souls assembled, teetering on the precipice of ecstatic delirium, their essence aglow with the fervent expectation of the impending sonic alchemy.
But wait, dear audience, for the grandeur of the Teenage Werewolves manifests before your very eyes, their foreboding banner foretelling a storm of sound that threatens to engulf all in its path!
...a tearful reunion with a spectre we dearly miss. Amidst the flashes of strobe lights, we catch a glimpse of Lux Interior once more. He breathes, he writhes, he's alive!"
And lo, as if summoned by the very sorcery of rock ‘n’ roll itself, stands the most exalted Jack Atlantis.
Picture, if you will, a figure draped in striking black PVC, his crown a pompadour that defies the very laws of gravity. He, my friends, exudes an enduring, ineffable coolness that sends shivers down the spine of any mortal soul.
Dare I utter the words? It’s as if the spirit of Lux Interior himself has been summoned from the netherworld and transfused into this enigmatic being, Jack Atlantis. A psychedelic aurora envelops him, a swirling vortex of otherworldly coolness that defies description.
And in this moment, dear reader, there is a tearful reunion with a spectre we dearly miss. Amidst the flashes of strobe lights, we catch a glimpse of Lux Interior once more. He breathes, he writhes, he’s alive! Oh, what a testament to their unwavering dedication to a band that was born within the hallowed confines of CBGB’s over four decades ago.
The Cramps, dear friends, their magnetic transcendence endures. To this very day, the ghostly twang of The Cramps resounds loudly and truly on stages and through our TV sets. It’s a haunting melody that reminds us of the immortal power of rock ‘n’ roll, a power that can summon even the spirits of the departed to dance once more in the spotlight.
But brace yourselves, for the inaugural note, an aural supernova, reverberates through the very fabric of our existence, heralding the commencement of a bacchanalian reverie unlike any other! The audience, a tempestuous throng, conjures a frenzied whirlpool of chaos, an untamed maelstrom spiraling into the night. Bewildered onlookers, ensnared in its psychedelic vortex, can only gaze in awe.
Aliken to the fabled lycanthrope, Jack undergoes a transformation upon the consecrated stage. His infectious spirit breathes kaleidoscopic life into the night, infusing the very atmosphere with an otherworldly vitality. His interactions with the audience traverse the spectrum from hilarity to absurdity. His discourse is a mind-bending odyssey into surreal whimsy. His on-stage theatrics span the gamut, from scaling the speakers to wielding the microphone with an affectionate fervour, all punctuated by occasional sips from a chalice of psychedelic elixir. At one point, a daring flight from the stage to the pit nearly transports Jack to the great beyond as he crashes heavily into the barriers. For a fleeting moment, one might glimpse the reaper himself, startling a lady in the front row. But fret not, for regardless of the pain, Jack, like Lux, forges ahead as if nothing has occurred!
The remaining members of the band, in stark contrast, bear expressions of world-weary nonchalance. Jack’s frenetic jests often leave them in a state of mesmerized contemplation, as if muttering to themselves, “We’ve seen it all before.” But what surpasses even the most intricate cosmic choreography is the band’s performance – a revelation that astonishes and confounds many in the audience.
Just when you believed Jack had exhausted his arsenal of malevolent tricks, prepare yourselves for the inconceivable, the unimaginable!"
In Jess’s (Ivy’s) skilled hands, a guitar sorceress of understated demeanor conjures the spirit of Link Wray, takes care of business, and channels the quintessential psychobilly resonance that both defined The Cramps and now courses through Teenage Werewolves. The remaining band members, equally adept, wield their sonic ju-ju with unmatched expertise, crafting the ancient beats that captivate the very soul of the night.
Islington Academy, now transformed into a realm where shadows writhe and guitars howl, sets the stage for a performance of spine-tingling proportions. The setlist, a sinister selection of nearly twenty songs, holds the promise of something for nearly every brave soul venturing into the depths. But, my dear friends, heed this warning! Jack’s voice, weathered by the relentless tour, still pierces the night with its haunting wails and unearthly growls. From the eerie ‘Sunglasses after Dark’ to the hypnotic ‘Goo Goo Muck,’ and descending further into the abyss with ‘Creature From The Black Leather Lagoon,’ my dear Cramps fans, the relentless onslaught of sonic horror will leave you gasping for more.
Just when you believed Jack had exhausted his arsenal of malevolent tricks, prepare yourselves for the inconceivable, the unimaginable! Inexplicably and incredibly, Patricia Quinn herself emerges from the shadows to partake in this macabre spectacle. She lends her ethereal voice to the timeless ‘Time Warp.’
...the otherworldly meets the bizarre in a spectacle that eludes explanation!"
Jack implored us to heed his warning, for this is not a mere performance; it is a SHOW of unparalleled entertainment, the likes of which your fragile mortal senses can scarcely comprehend. Those of you who dared to venture into these depths to bear witness to this night of musical madness will surely be haunted in your dreams for all eternity
After the encore, the divine presence of the Teenage Werewolves recedes from the stage, allowing you to confidently dispel any doubts about whether this ‘tribute’ could ever succeed. An evening with The Cramps was always a night of transcendental madness, a symphony of sonic mayhem. Jack and the band, you did them proud, in a tale plucked from the pages of a science fiction comic book, where the otherworldly meets the bizarre in a spectacle that eludes explanation!
If you want to know more…….. ask the barman!

TEJON STREET CORNER THIEVES – A Potent Blend
TEJON STREET CORNER THIEVES – ‘Juxtaposition’ – new album by US outlaw alt-folk trio out right now.
Oh yes, our favourite US outlaw alt-folk group Tejon Street Corner Thieves have come a long way since their humble beginnings when they used to busk for loose change, actually taking their name from a time when they were accused of stealing a corner on Tejon Street in their home city of Colorado Springs during a turf war between rival buskers.
TSCT subsequently became the first act to sign to Liars Club Records (founded by Amigo the Devil and Regime Music Group) in early 2020, releasing the ‘Demons’ EP and ‘Monarch Sessions’ live acoustic record that year, followed by a covers album entitled ‘Stolen Goods’ in 2021 and the regular studio album ‘Thick As Thieves’ in 2022. A perfect concoction of songwriting ability, non-stop touring and charming stage personas have allowed the band to build an organic grassroots following of ‘Tejomies’ (the moniker affectionately given to their fans) worldwide.
The band have released a bold new studio album, ‘Juxtaposition’, which was made at Royal Recordings in Colorado Springs with producer Bill Douglass and sees TSCT finding new ways to integrate an array of genres – Americana, Bluegrass, Folk and Punk – into what is a confident sounding record. There is something fearless about embracing and celebrating musical contrasts, with TSCT’s unique blend (with a splash of whisky added in) proving that something interesting can always been found within the juxtaposition.
“’Juxtaposition’ is about life and death, love and loss, partying and sobriety. It encompasses the wide range of emotions we’ve experienced over the life of our band,” states vocalist/banjo player Connor O’Neal. “We explored the differences in our writing styles and combined them in a way that creates an ebb and flow of fun party jams and serious, sometimes heartbreaking, Americana anthems. Inspired by our friends and family, the whole world has been our canvas for this new album.”
The release of ‘Juxtaposition’ has been preceded by three singles that include the current ‘The End Of Apathy’ VIDEO, with the band explaining that “the societal struggle and political divide we’ve all been experiencing is the driving force behind our inspiration on this one, and we think you’ll all be able to relate in one way or another.” The introductory single was ‘Can’t Remember’ LYRIC VIDEO, followed by ‘You Rascal You’ VIDEO.
Juxtaposition’ features a further array of impressive tunes, such as intense rock opener ‘Monster Truck Explosion Fuck’, the banjo-infused party anthem ‘Smoking Is Cool’, Americana heartbreaker ‘Can’t Remember’ and protest song ‘Blue Lives Murder’, which was actually written in the wake of the 2014 death of Eric Garner. “I wrote it after the murder of another innocent man who died at the hands of police and let my anger come out,” recalls vocalist/guitarist Shawn D’Amario.
A TSCT live show is an unforgettable experience, with fans invariably lapping up the party atmosphere and letting loose, often turning the crowd into a bluegrass mosh pit. The band’s reputation has earned them recent US and European tours with a diverse array of artists that include heavy hitters like The Dead South, Trampled By Turtles and labelmate Amigo The Devil. TSCT’s unique blend of genres has also seen them appear at a number of prestigious US festivals such as the inaugural Rebels & Renegades, Winter WonderGrass and Blue Ox Music Festival.

GOTHMINISTER – No Comment!!!
What if your lawyer looked like this?
Yes it’s true, Bjørn Alexander Brem aka GOTHMINISTER is a well known lawyer in Norway. Next week, on Thursday November 2, 2023, his industrial gothic metal band GOTHMINISTER will embark on their first leg of the PANDEMONIUM EUROPEAN TOUR, promoting the highly acclaimed and award-winning album by the same name!
In the world of hard and heavy sounds and impressive theatrical live stage shows, GOTHMINISTER have earned themselves a reputation of being “one of the most iconic gothic/industrial metal acts”. Not only has their power-laden sound with its remarkable atmospheric density inspired their audiences since 1999, its eloquent fantasy stories have also transported them to uncharted territories.
Don’t miss GOTHMINISTER and a breathtaking show – coming to a theatre near you this November – fighting monsters, demons and zombies on stage, and even risking losing his own breath, for the first time entering a water walking ball on stage wearing laser gloves. If that’s not enough, he will also shoot a huge monster with a co2 cannon and much more! There will be a meet and greet after each show – and if you’re lucky – maybe you can also get a piece of free legal advice while you’re there? Find all upcoming live dates listed below!
Furthermore, just recently GOTHMINISTER has announced its latest coup: ‘Pandemonium II: The Battle Of The Underworlds’! The new album release by the Norwegians is set to be unleashed in 2024 via AFM Records, taking up where its 2022 predecessor ‘Pandemonium’ left off: The much-acclaimed album conquered the charts as number one, and was voted as the ‘Album Of The Year 2022’ at the Dark Music Awards, while its single ‘This Is Your Darkness‘ also made it to number one on the German Alternative Charts. GOTHMINISTER´s music videos for ‘Pandemonium’ and ‘Demons’ won stunning 19 film awards worldwide.
To ease your wait for their new album, GOTHMINISTER have just recently shared a first song, titled ‘I Am The Devil’, taken off their forthcoming offering. Now, they are premiering a haunting video for new single “Battle Of The Underworlds”.
Watch out for many more album details and single/video releases to follow in the months ahead, and make sure to catch the one and only GOTHMINISTER live at the following dates this year:

In Pandemonium, history repeated itself; the king is dead, long live the king! This circle of evil, on the other hand, is something that the Gothminister king himself has arranged for and wanted, so that the power of the kingdom under the same “clan” will live on forever.” GOTHMINISTER reveals.
“In the follow-up music video, «Battle of the Underworlds», we go back in time before the death of the Gothminister king in «Pandemonium».
We see that during the Gothminister King’s time as ruler, his Kingdom was attacked by another Underworld, consisting of witches and werewolves who had joined forces with a plan to overthrow Gothminister’s kingdom. The witches are concerned with balance in this world, and now they fear too much power centralized in one clan, so they plan this attack against Gothminister’s kingdom to strengthen their own side by making a pact with the werewolves.
Especially pay attention to the video towards the end, and maybe it will give som you some answers to what really happened before «Pandemonium»…Please comment what your thoughts to the story are!”
All new GOTHMINISTER songs were composed and written by Bjørn Alexander Brem, who also produced the new release. The mix is courtesy of Henning Verlage (Unheilig, Eisbrecher) and Norwegian sound engineer Morten Lund, who has worked with Morten Harket (A-ha), among others, was in charge of the album mastering. “The new material is faster and catchier than that of the predecessor album, but at the same time it sounds even more complex and modern, with more sophisticated vocal melodies and challenging breaks,” Brem recently said, “at the same time the driving beats for the dancefloor and the concept of ultra-low-sounding, tough guitar riffs are still present and link both recordings.”
Watch out for many more album details and single/video releases to follow in the months ahead, and make sure to catch the one and only GOTHMINISTER live at the following dates this year.
Darkplace – A Multi Layered Process
Darkplace is a mysterious new Swedish dark dream pop/post-punk group whose just released debut album, ‘About The End Of The World’, is a conceptual work inspired by the bleak landscape of the Stockholm suburbs that birthed them.
Centred around an alternative reality – or is it just a grim present and future? – the album has been unveiled gradually via a series of videos based on animated digital paintings for several of its tracks.
Four singles have been issued ahead of the album, with the introductory ‘Arken över Hesselby’ (The Ark Over Hesselby) presenting the outskirts of a city haunted by an unknown aerial presence. Its follow-up, ‘Fearmonger’, offered an apocalyptic scenario with sirens wailing and a lone soldier fleeing the prying ‘eye in the sky’ of a mysterious airship. The third, ‘Cars’, was the first to feature vocals and saw the story move on to a man travelling north following cryptic messages written on motorway signs. ‘This Is Loud’ saw the plot thicken and bring the story full circle…back to the beginning and Hesselby…with another stunning visual to accompany it.
A video for the track ‘The End’ has been made available to celebrate the release of the album and can be seen HERE. The band cryptically comment that “when the Monuments switch on you can taste metal and your ears pop. Working from home became vital for people who lived close to them. GPS’ seem slightly off. Is it because of interference from them? My regular walks also seem to differ in distance.”
Although rooted in late 80s/early 90s indie styles, Darkplace incorporate a variety of other genres into their sound. However, for the members of this highly secretive group, it is not just about the music. They perceive themselves as more an art project that happens to be exploring and commenting on the state of the world through their chosen mediums of music and video.
DARKPLACE Arken Över Hesselby | Fearmonger | Cars | This Is Loud single cover artworks
The majority of the tracks on the album are short instrumentals that were written with specific storyboards in mind, with the group revealing that: “We started creating the art before we had the music in most cases, so the tracks were written as soundtracks to the animation.”
The art itself is a multi-layered process that involves photography, sculpting, oil painting, digital editing and animation. Using apps like Nomad Sculpt to create it before exporting scene specific angles and imported into Procreate to be painted, they add: “we use oil paintbrushes and paint over the photo. It is layers upon layers and it gets messy. Exporting gets even messier since we want depth in the scenes and need to export them in layered depths. A few scenes in this project have been animated frame by frame and it has taken almost two years to complete.”

Duran Duran – Out From The Shadows
Duran Duran have released their highly anticipated sixteenth full-length, Danse Macabre, via Tape Modern/BMG.
Victoria De Angelis of Måneskin appears on the album’s focus track, a cover of Talking Heads’ ‘Psycho Killer’, unleashing a collision of neon keys, sweaty grooves, slick drums, and snappy vocal harmonies.
“The first time I met Vic, I asked her who her bass inspirations were,” bassist John Taylor remembers. “Right away, she said, ‘Tina Weymouth!’ I said, ‘Me too.’ When the idea of covering ‘Psycho Killer’ came up, I thought, ‘I’m going to call Vic’. She loved the idea, naturally!”
Victoria De Angelis adds, “I got a call from John…saying he was working on a cover of Psycho Killer, and he wanted to ask me first about playing on it. It was insane being asked by one of the greatest bass players ever to play one of my favorite songs with Duran Duran. Absolutely insane. I’m so grateful and honored, it was so much fun recording together with John and he was so sweet to me and encouraged me to express myself and play it my own way. I’ll always remember that day.”
Danse Macabre is out everywhere now.
Always ones to revel in the shadows, playing with artistic, aesthetic, and emotional extremes, the iconic UK quartet unearth bright melodies from darkness as they thread together new songs, themed covers, and newly reimagined versions of their own ‘spooky’ classics. Catalyzed by one special live performance that Duran Duran filmed in Las Vegas on October 31 of last year, Danse Macabreis the soundtrack to their ultimate Halloween party. Included across the album’s 13 tracks are Halloween covers of Billie Eilish’s ‘Bury A Friend’, Talking Heads’ ‘Psycho Killer’, The Rolling Stones’ ‘Paint It Black’, the Rick James-inspired ‘Super Lonely Freak’, Siouxsie and the Banshees’ ‘Spellbound’, Cerrone’s ‘Supernature’ and The Specials’ ‘Ghost Town’.
The album also includes special collaborations with former Duran Duran band members Andy Taylor and Warren Cuccurullo, Nile Rodgers, and producers Josh Blair and Mr. Hudson.
Andy Taylor originally joined Duran Duran in 1980, co-writing and playing guitar on their first three studio albums: Duran Duran (1981), Rio (1982), and Seven and the Ragged Tiger (1983), before leaving the group to pursue a solo career. 16 years later he returned for 2004’s Astronaut (2004), before parting company once again with the other four original members in 2006.
With Andy’s departure, Warren Cuccurullo joined the band full time in 1989, contributing both song writing and guitars to the albums Big Thing (1988), Liberty (1990), The Wedding Album (1993), Thank You (1995), Medazzaland (1997) and Pop Trash (2000).

ast forward to 2023 and Andy Taylor and Warren Cuccurullo’s presence on Danse Macabre captures the true spirit of the album – a celebration of the raw energy and sense of fun that comes when friends make music together in a room.
But Danse Macabre is not just an album for Halloween… Elsewhere, ‘Black Moonlight’ sees the band’s timeless song writing break into dance-rock glamor with the addition of Nile Rodgers and Andy Taylor on guitar, where epic coda ‘Confession In The Afterlife’ finds Duran Duran reunited with producer Mr. Hudson anew. Title track ‘Danse Macabre’, which Billboard proclaimed, “is like no Duran Duran song that came before it,” with Vulture hailing it “a gothic delight of synthesized riches,” and USA Today adding “the song is powered by a vibe of impending dread, a mesmerizing cadence” arrived with a stunning official music video, brought to life with creative director Linc Gasking, showcasing cutting-edge, AI-driven techniques in a 3D animated masterpiece that, in previous times, would have demanded an entire team, over a year and a substantial budget to produce. Rolling Stone magazine described the video as a ‘graveyard smash’.
Danse Macabre is out everywhere now.
As well as a second collaboration with Warren Cuccurullo on ‘Love Voudou’, Danse Macabre features newly recorded versions of ‘Nightboat’ and fan favorite ‘Secret Oktober 31st’ (both featuring Andy Taylor on guitar). The song made its first appearance as a b-side to the 7” single ‘Union of The Snake’ and is now, 40 years later, seeing its first ever physical release on a Duran Duran studio album.
Speaking about Danse Macabre, keyboardist Nick Rhodes said: “The song ‘Danse Macabre’ celebrates the joy and madness of Halloween. It is the title track of our album, which gathers together an unusual mix of cover versions, reworked Duran Duran songs and several new compositions. The idea was born out of a show we played in Las Vegas on October 31st, 2022. We had decided to seize the moment to create a unique, special event…the temptation of using glorious gothic visuals set to a dark soundtrack of horror and humor was simply irresistible. That evening inspired us to explore further and to make an album, using Halloween as the key theme. The record metamorphosed through a pure, organic process, and not only was it made faster than anything since our debut album, it has also resulted in something none of us could have ever predicted. Emotion, mood, style, and attitude have always been at the heart of Duran Duran’s DNA, we search for light in the darkness and darkness in the light, and I feel we have somehow managed to capture the essence of all of that in this project.”
Simon Le Bon elaborates: “It’s about a crazy Halloween party. It’s supposed to be fun!”
John Taylor said: “After all these years, Danse Macabre offers an interesting insight into the personality of the band. The music packs a real punch.”
Roger Taylor adds: “I hope you take a journey with us through the darker side of our inspirations into where we’re at in 2023. Maybe, you’ll leave with a deeper understanding of how Duran Duran got to this moment in time.”
Danse Macabre arrives amidst a busy year of live activity that has already seen Duran Duran perform sold out arena shows across the UK and Ireland. The performances were rapturously received, described as “royalty status” by The Times, “decadent and bombastic” by The Telegraph, “a first class and commanding performance” by CLASH, “joyous” by The Sun, “national treasures” by The Spectatorwhilst the Mail On Sunday confirmed, “their charms haven’t changed”. The band concluded their SOLD OUT FUTURE PAST headline arena tour across North America last month to rave reviews across the board, with Dallas Voice praising the band for sounding “just as fresh as they were decades ago,” observing the band having “the audience in their grip.” Mercury News noted by the end of their set they “left the thousands of passionate fans clamoring for more.” Boca Raton Tribune noted “Duran Duran delivered, sounding better than ever,” While Tampa Bay Times exclaimed “Their live performance still feels like a music video you want to watch over and over again!”
Danse Macabre follows a wave of landmark achievements for Duran Duran. Their 2022 induction into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Famemarked yet another career peak with the year already having seen the band headline London’s Hyde Park, perform at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Concert at Buckingham Palace, close the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in their home town of Birmingham, and a headline tour across North America which included sold out shows at New York’s Madison Square Garden and three nights at the Hollywood Bowl.
Danse Macabre, is out now via Tape Modern for BMG with artwork featuring images adapted from a collection of authentic vintage séance photos sourced by Nick Rhodes at auction. It is available on Black 2LP and CD, with a limited-edition Translucent Galaxy 2LP. The album is also available on high res Blu-ray audio.
