Restless Road – Just The Beginning
In anticipation of their debut album, Last Rodeo, arriving this Friday (Oct. 20th), Restless Road released a new track from the project last Friday, ‘You Don’t Have To Love Me‘.
Written by the trio (Colton Pack, Garrett Nichols, Zach Beeken) along with Austin Shawn and Nate Kenyon, ‘You Don’t Have To Love Me’ preludes the harmony-driven vocals and “hard-hitting storytelling” (Country Now) to come on Last Rodeo.
The project will feature 18 tracks including the title track, which Country Central called “undeniably catchy,” and recently released songs ‘Roll Tide Roll’, ‘I Don’t Wanna Be That Guy’, ‘Sundown Somewhere’, ‘On My Way’, their #1 Sirius XM hit ‘Growing Old With You’ and fan favourite ‘Bar Friends.’
Listen to the new song and pre-add/order/save Last Rodeo HERE
Contrary to the title of the album, Last Rodeo is just the beginning for the trio. The title track is about resilience and keeping their eyes on the road, which this album is proof of. As Colton, Garrett and Zach have grown together, Last Rodeo encapsulates their journey through every twist and turn. With Colton married, Garrett currently engaged, and Zach single – the songs incorporate a wide breadth of stories about all different stages of life and love.
With appearances this year in the UK with Kane Brown, at Stagecoach and CMA Fest, the “Spotify Hot Country Artist To Watch” will spend the rest of the year touring alongside Russell Dickerson. For tickets and additional info, visit www.restlessroad.com

Brooke Eden – Hitting The Right Note
Acclaimed Nashville vocal powerhouse Brooke Eden made her return to the UK on Sunday, October 15th singing the national anthem on the field at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, ahead of the Tennessee Titans vs Baltimore Ravens game.
Commenting on her return and performing ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’, Eden shared, “I am so happy to be back in the UK again and it was such an honor to represent the USA in London with the American national anthem. The energy was electric and it was so beautiful to stand between the American and British flags for American football in England.”
This week, Brooke will be performing as part of the Song Suffragettes line-up on Saturday, October 21st at Bush Hall alongside Catherine McGrath, Harper Grace and Simeon Hammond Dallas – limited tickets are available here. Following this performance, Eden will make an appearance at G-A-Y.
Brooke’s return to the UK follows the release of her most confident and commanding new project Outlaw Love, on June 9th. The four-song EP takes the listener on a journey from the beginning of her relationship with her wife, on ‘Whispering’, until their first dance song, ‘All My Life’, to which she released the lyric video on their one year anniversary – available to view here. As Eden says of the EP, it is a “look into our unique relationship in country music and a new definition of what it means to be an outlaw.”
Described by Gay Times Magazine as “the queer country superstar we need and deserve,” Brooke has also recently been featured in Attitude, Pink News, Metro, Vogue, Rolling Stone, NPR and The Washington Post. Her music has been played on BBC Radio 2, Virgin Radio Pride, Hits Radio Pride, Apple Music Radio, and Gaydio, where she returned as a guest on Nigel May’s show last weekend (Oct 8). In the US, this summer she’s appeared on ABC News and NBC’s Flipping The Script.
RICHARD EVANS – A Very Challenging Experience
Manchester-based synthwave artist Richard Evans presents his new retro-futuristic EP ‘Dream of the World’, released via Cold Star Media. Recorded at Cold Star Studios in July 2023, the inspiring title track is about remaining positive even in the darkest times, as reflected in the accompanying video.
A British-Irish electronic musician, writer and digital media artist, Evans was previously keyboardist in UK cult band James, with whom he also co-wrote and recorded material. Previous to that, he was also guitarist and songwriter for St. Vitus Dancers
Richard Evans’ draws inspiration from real-world science, exploring biotechnology, machine intelligence and the environment. For this album, existing songs were refined and new material was written, combining the warmth of classic synths with pared-down lyrics that explore real-world subject matter.
This 3-track EP follows Evans’ 2022 debut record ‘Sentinel’. This electro-pop concept album explores micro-plastics, gene editing, stardust, technogenic disasters, human evolution, among other themes, this superb eight-track collection telling the story of humanity at a tipping point and a world trapped in a climate crisis.
“‘Dream Of The World’ is a call to action in the face of an unrelenting climate crisis and, on a personal level, it reflects on a health situation that affected me in late 2022. I was diagnosed with Miller Fisher Syndrome, a rare auto-immune disorder that impacts around one in a million people each year and is a variant of Guillain-Barre Syndrome. I found parallels between the life-threatening aspects of the climate crisis and a condition which decimated nearly all of my body’s functions,” says Richard Evans.
“I literally woke up one morning in the midst of losing all muscle control. Over the course of a single day, I became unable to open my eyes, to sit, stand or walk, even to eat or swallow food. I was hospitalised for a month and for the first 10 days of this stay, there was a real risk of respiratory failure. Alongside a treatment plan, I kept going with positive visualisations, mentally depicting future times when I would be well again. If nothing else, this practice helped me find the strength to endure the most challenging experience of my life.”
Evans adds, “Once I was released from hospital, music became an important part of my recovery – learning to sing and play keyboards again helped me regain control of my arms, hands and facial muscles. For a long time I had double vision and didn’t have the concentration to work on a computer. However I could play piano for short periods and was able to resume some vocal work after a couple of months. This phase created an unexpected change in my writing process, which previously was built around riffs and sequences developed on a computer. ‘Dream Of The World’ was composed entirely with piano and voice.”
Continuing on from the ‘Sentinel’ album, the song ‘Dream Of The World’ reflects how the climate emergency is met with procrastination and indifference from most governments and corporations, as if the switch to zero carbon is somehow beyond human control. The lyrics are also about facing mortality on a personal level, with Evans singing, “I won’t bow to the hand of fate”, emphasizing that we don’t always have to accept the hand we’re dealt.
With the sonically hypnotic effect of its single sequence and drum pattern,
‘2084’ is about those who deny science and convince others of a different reality, underscored by the lyris “Hear the priests lie that black is white”.
‘Motherlode’ is a previously unreleased track, recorded during the ‘Sentinel’ sessions in 2021. It’s about the phenomena of algorithmic trading – flash trades – and how ‘the market’ advances in cities worldwide each day to relentlessly exploit planetary resources.
Richard Evans’ output extends well beyond the musical realm. He recently received a New Ideas Fund award from Creative UK to develop a virtual production studio. The award supports content for future stage shows and a new sci-fi short film, called ‘DeepSleep’, which was written and directed by Richard and is due for release in 2024.
Since the early 1980s, Evans’ independent creative projects have received nine awards from Arts Council England and a separate one from Creative England, in addition to being commissioned for various projects by the University of Manchester and the Manchester Science Festival.
Evans also wrote, directed and produced the science fiction drama ‘AEON‘. An author of many short stories, he also published the novel ‘KOSMONAUT ZERO’ (via Dead Ink), researched at Star City Cosmonaut Training Centre. He also oversaw the ‘Gagarin 50’ exhibition for the 50th anniversary of the first human spaceflight by Yuri Gagarin.
As of October 17, ‘Dream of the World’ is available everywhere online and can be obtained directly from the artist via Bandcamp, where the ‘Sentinel’ album can also be obtained.
On Thursday, November 23, Richard will perform extracts from ‘Sentinel’ at the Prism Winter Festival at Waterside, Sale, Manchester. Recordings of the live performance will then feature throughout the festival on November 24 and 25. This first outdoor presentation of ‘Sentinel’ involves the visuals being projected onto the exterior of the Waterside building.
IAN WILLIAMS – A Protest Against Beige-ness
IAN WILLIAMS – ‘Slow-Motion Apocalypse’ – new album by London-based electronic musician out 03.11.23.
The new album by London-based musician/composer Ian Williams marks an abrupt handbrake turn away from the minimalism of his previous release, ‘All Becomes Desert’ [2021].
Rather, ‘Slow-Motion Apocalypse’ is all about impact; the epic devastation of a civilisation hell-bent on cutting off its own life-support systems and a furious elegy for the headlong rush to exhaust the planet’s precious resources to enrich a handful of unvisionaries whose main preoccupation seems to be going to Mars, or buying footballers…because that will definitely help.
“The problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubts, while the stupid ones are full of confidence” – Charles Bukowski
Think of the music itself as a rant, a protest against the beige-ness of the current vogue for music as a tranquilliser for the masses. This is not music to meditate to and it doesn’t provide a safe space for the expression of warm and fuzzy feelings. Instead, it rages. Hybrid electronic-orchestral sculptures carved in the sides of mountains, with gigantic avalanches of rhythm pulled along by an interlocking delirium of melody and noise.
Ah, melody…it is the one ideal held sacrosanct here – imagine Aphex Twin mutating into Carmina Burana via a spaghetti western detour, as heard in ‘After We’re Gone’, or ‘Magenta’ with its spaced-out dub as a spy theme floats by, or ‘Chronopolis’ with its skyscrapers full of colossal piano chords to soundtrack the novel Ballard never got around to filming. After all, we might as well enjoy the dying light at the end of the world – what else can we do?
The album also includes Williams’ current single, ‘The Light At The End Of The World’. An intoxicating mixture of bubbling sequencers, tribal beats and soaring synths, it has a gorgeous ethereal vocal melody and sounds like a Tangerine Vangelis, while it is accompanied by an interdimensional video shot somewhere between the Orion Nebula and Margate.

Ian Williams began his music career in Edinburgh in the mid 1980s as a founder of Beautiful Pea Green Boat, whose ethereal, atmospheric sound pre-dated the vogue for dream pop by at least twenty years. Several collaborations with Lebanese choreographer Joumana Mourad and her contemporary dance company Ijad saw him fuse Arabic/classical/techno/ambient styles, following which he changed tack to work with singer Claudia Barton as Gamine, releasing two albums of dark, piano-led torch songs and lullabies.
EMILY WOLFE – A Determined Spirit
‘Silencer’ – the new single by US singer-songwriter and guitarist EMILY WOLFE is out now.
The third single to be released in advance of ‘The Blowback’, her self-produced new album out next week, ‘Silencer’ is described by US singer/songwriter/guitarist Emily Wolfe as “the most intense song on the record.”
It also reaffirms the shift in direction she was aiming for with it, as she addresses meaningful, deeply emotional and political topics including abortion rights and sexual assault, with ‘Silencer’ a prime example of her stand on these issues.
Musically, ‘Silencer’ blends hard-hitting alternative and punk rock and is driven by Wolfe’s impassioned vocal and a trademark engaging guitar riff. However, its lyric delves into the fallout for a victim of assault, with Wolfe explaining that “I felt a responsibility to write this song, like the weight of the world was on me to create it. This dude is never going to have any consequences other than his own internal shame, but that isn’t enough, so I was determined to sing it powerfully for the person that it’s for – the victim – and all the other people who have been affected by it.”
Wolfe determined spirit also shines on songs such as the previously released singles ‘Walk In My Shoes’ and ‘Dead End Luck’, while she states that the forthright album title “is because a lot of the songs are about not taking bullshit anymore. I guess I could say it more elegantly, but it’s how I feel. From global issues, national problems and interpersonal relationships, it’s a big middle finger to everything. This album is something I needed to do for myself. I’m really proud of it and it’s the most connected I’ve ever felt to a body of work.”
‘The Blowback’ will be promoted with a recently announced European tour as special guest of The Gaslight Anthem in March 2024. Confirmed dates are:

Wolfe has earned acclaim from US publications that include The Wall Street Journal, Guitar Player and American Songwriter, as well as UK magazines such as Classic Rock, Blues Matters and Total Guitar. Recognised as a tour de force guitarist, she has worked with Epiphone/Gibson Guitars for two signature Sheraton models, including 2023s White Wolfe.
She has been developing and refining her hard-hitting style for almost a decade, with 2014’s ‘Roulette’ EP followed by the single ‘Atta Blues’ (2016) and a self-titled 2019 debut album that included early fan favourites such as ‘Holy Roller’. Its follow-up, ‘Outlier’ (2021), was produced by Michael Shuman (Queens of the Stone Age, Mini Mansions) and attracted critical praise and copious airplay for its singles ‘No Man’ and ‘Something Better’.
Inspired by the likes of Hole, Veruca Salt, Nirvana and Alanis Morissette, Wolfe envisaged a specific sound for what would become ‘The Blowback’, opting to self-produce her new album in order to properly realise it. “Producing the record myself is one of the most thrilling experiences I’ve ever had. I have learned so much from past producers like Michael Shuman and I was ready. For me, this whole chapter is about owning your spirit.”
Ultimately, ‘The Blowback’ may also give listeners the strength they need to express themselves, as Wolfe concludes: “When you listen to this, I want you to feel empowered. If something harms or oppresses you, stand up against it. I’ve overcome a lot. I’m not afraid to display my feminine rage anymore – especially on stage. I’ve grown up spiritually, emotionally and mentally. I believe I have a lot to offer, and I’m ready for whatever comes next.”

SADUS – Sending Ripples
East Bay thrash metal legends SADUS return today with a blistering new single, ‘Scorched And Burnt‘, from their long-awaited new album, The Shadow Inside, that’s out November 17th via Nuclear Blast Records.
Recorded with Juan Urteaga (EXODUS, TESTAMENT, MACHINE HEAD) at Trident Studios, the new song is a brutal reminder of the band’s supreme capability of crafting some of metal’s most devastating riffs.
Featuring ominous artwork by accomplished artist Travis Smith (FLESHGOD APOCALPYSE, OPETH), The Shadow Inside, is a contemporary thrash classic with colossal, groove-laden riffs at break-neck rhythm and blistering solos. It’s the record fans have been waiting desperately for and one of the year’s most crucial metal albums.
Commenting on the record’s impending release, founding vocalist/guitarist Darren Travis says:
“I am giddy with excitement for this album to be unleashed upon the world. With the help of the entire Nuclear Blast team, we will bestow a hugely anticipated release of The Shadow Inside!!
THANK YOU for your interest in our little band for all these years. I hope you will find the same release of excitement that WE DO!! The love of METAL is the only reason for SADUS!! Thank you ALL for the undying SUPPORT!!!! Fucking SADUS!!”
SADUS previously released the singles ‘It’s The Sickness’ and ‘Ride The Knife,’ teasing the cataclysmic fury in store with The Shadow Inside.
It has been sixteen long years since the monstrous sound of SADUS last bestowed a new record upon the world, but the time has finally arrived. This November, Nuclear Blast Records proudly presents the triumphant return of the unconquerable SADUS with their sixth full-length studio album, titled The Shadow Inside.
Adorned with the compelling artwork of Travis Smith, the album cover depicts an all-consuming demon of the cosmos fiercely enveloping a tortured soul beneath, perfectly encapsulating the vision and duality that the songs on this record deliver. Founder and drummer Jon Allen shares his excitement about working with Travis once again, reminiscing about their collaboration on Elements of Anger. He points out that several tracks on the new album, such as ‘The Devil In Me’ and ‘The Shadow Inside,’ revolve around the idea of an internal entity constantly pushing us. At times, one might find themselves at the edge of reason, attributing their actions to the shadow within, an external force they blame for their choices. While not a concept album per-se, every song deals with life decisions and the importance of taking responsibility for one’s actions to unlock the best life has to offer. The track ‘The Shadow Inside’ boasts a heavier and slower tone, with a touch of classic, gut-wrenching grind, creating a fitting climax to the album.
A formidable darkness flows through tracks like ‘Anarchy’. Evidently influenced by the tumultuous post-Covid times of mass hysteria, looting, and general loss of control, the melody reflects this chaotic environment. Allen describes the track as “more straightforward and in-your-face, hitting listeners right in the gut.” Despite the intensity, SADUS manages to retain their signature death/thrash blend, staying true to their old-school roots. The aggression remains palpable, allowing their music to speak for itself with raw, unapologetic power.
‘Scorched and Burnt’ follows suit, with its steady beat and chaotic vocals seamlessly intertwining with blistering guitar work. The track gradually transitions into an impassioned melody, igniting a fiery explosion as the song nears its conclusion. Although inspired by the literal wildfires that plagued California during its creation, ‘Scorched and Burnt’ delves deeper into the idea that individuals often feel like someone or something is constantly out to get them. Yet, in the end, the song urges unity, recognising that every action, even in chaos, ripples through the lives of others.

The process of creating The Shadow Inside was unhurried and unencumbered by unnecessary roadblocks. SADUS allowed their creativity to flow naturally, collecting riffs and writing together in person. The band took their time, nurturing and developing their musical ideas until they evolved into the powerful tracks we hear today. Allen emphasses that their drama-free and family-oriented approach to making music is one of the reasons their sound speaks so powerfully to their fans. Collaborating with Juan Urteaga of Trident Studios added another layer of refinement to the album, as his expertise in death metal played a vital role in shaping its overall sound.
All that being said, SADUS is not a band that simply stands apart from the crowd for the sake of being different. They stand tall, unswayed by mass hysteria and media influences, choosing to make their own decisions and encourage others to do the same. In a world filled with disinformation and false flags, they emphasise the importance of being smart, using common sense, thinking for ourselves, and remaining aware of our surroundings.
As November approaches, the anticipation for The Shadow Inside is sure to grow. With their uncompromising vision, SADUS continues to stand as a beacon of authenticity and integrity within the heavy metal community, forever forging their path in the ever-evolving landscape of music.
