JESSIKA – For The Lonely Hearts

British-born, New York-based singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer JESSIKA has released her two-track Christmas release – Christmas Without You – meant to charm audiences during the holiday season.

The title-track, which is an original song, explores the theme of being apart from a loved one during the holiday season.

“‘Christmas Without you’ is a special song,” shares JESSIKA. “It’s for anyone who is missing someone at this time of year. It’s a song for the lonely hearts.”

Christmas Without You, which also features her version of the holiday favourite ‘Last Christmas’, follows the release of JESSIKA’s debut album World Ain’t Ready in August via BMG, which has already accumulated over one million streams. Tracks from the album have been added to MTV’s Spankin’ New list, and received airplay and acclaim from Billboard and BBC Radio London, among others.

On Monday this week (Nov 13), album track ‘Nine Inch Heels’ gained its first play on BBC Radio 2 when JESSIKA joined Scott Mills for his ‘Music Police’ feature, helping a listener, Jo, solve the earworm she had previously called in to the show about. One of JESSIKA’s friends happened to be tuned in to Scott’s show the day Jo sung the song down the line last week, and sent the artist a message to let her know they thought it was her song. When JESSIKA listened back, she realised it was indeed ‘Nine Inch Heels’, and encouraged her fans to contact Scott Mills on social media, and before long, JESSIKA was invited on the show to introduce the track to the national audience.

Adding to a list of increasingly high-profile media appearances, JESSIKA will appear on ITV West Midlands & West Midlands today to discuss her new release. Among other things, she discusses her unique experience covertly inhabiting the BMG Nashville office, after signing a hard-won publishing deal with the company and finding herself in Music City without enough money for a hotel. Entrusted with a key card to write in the studio and realising it granted 24-hour access, she spent the ensuing weeks secretly living in the building and writing what would become the album. After being discovered, she took the bold step of reaching out to Jon Loba, the President of BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville, and requested a meeting, during which – amazed by her dedication and determination – Loba listened to the demos, and signed her on the spot.

World Ain’t Ready, written by JESSIKA and co-produced with Kyle Kelso (Kygo, Aloe Blacc, Galantis), is a testament to the resilience, passion, and extraordinary circumstances that shaped her artistic vision.

RICHARD WALTERS – A Tender Tribute

RICHARD WALTERS releases his stately sixth new album: ‘Murmurate’.

His first solo record for over three years, it comprises thirteen brand new tracks including a tender tribute to the late Hollywood star Philip Seymour Hoffman – available to hear now. Walters will be touring the album with a UK tour starting next week – dates below.

Often playing eccentrics, underdogs, and misfits, Philip Seymour Hoffman is perhaps best known for his distinctive roles in cult classics like The Big Lebowski, Almost Famous, and Boogie Nights. Tragically passing away in 2014, Richard Walters holds a candle to his immortal legacy with an elegant and elegiac track written in tribute to the actor. Simply titled “Philip Seymour Hoffman”, Walters says of the song:

“Philip Seymour Hoffman was a huge hero of mine and I was heartbroken when he died…this is me imagining his final moments, the slipping away and weird things one might imagine as the lights go out (‘I’m thinking of a hotel before..’) Quite dreamlike and surreal. Who could ever play him better than he played himself? Nobody can fill those shoes.”

While the prolific Oxford artist has busied himself with releases with LYR (alongside Simon Armitage and Patrick Pearson) and Sun Lo (with ATTLAS) in recent months, ‘Murmurate’ marks his first truly solo release since 2020’s ‘Golden Veins’. An album about our human need for real-world relationships and the importance of meaningful connections with those closest to us, its a collection of songs that graciously shift through nocturnal piano ballads, sprightly folk/pop poetry, darkly lilting lullabies, to longing, love-lorn duets such as “Lost In Your Light” (with Lydia Oliver).

After a five-year silence, Portuguese blackened post-metal act Music In Low Frenquencies finally return with a new full-length album titled “Catharsis”.

They continue on their path of soul-searching and emotional catharsis carried out through a combination of harsh black-metal, gloomy doom and engaging post-metal.

Formed in 2012, Music In Low Frequencies, is a gathering of three old friends that thrive throughout the music they create together. They were born from the desire of making something meaningfully intimate with hints of the harshness of our times. With that being said, it is understandable that their sound is charged with gloomy melodies, heavy riffs and doom tunes.

They released their first album “Sowing the seed” in 2014 and promoted it through Europe, headlining some shows and also playing in some important festivals in Portugal and other smaller showcases. They went through a period of time where creation was delayed by some other important matters, but soon time passed and new melodies started to follow.

Music in Low Frequencies felt they wanted to go deeper down the rabbit hole as they started to feel the urge for darker and sludgier notes. They refine and redefine their sound and “Catharsis” is born. Resembling the atmosphere of these past times, this album is the result of a period of darkness, reflection, contemplation of the soul and purgation of the spirits and it hopes to embrace all the heavy spirits we have within our minds and put them to rest. “Catharsis” wishes to indulge all the senses whatsoever, and purge all the demons we carry through our music.

Divided Heaven Releases Collection LP.

Since the start of 2022, Divided Heaven has kept busy with the release of their fourth album titled Oblivion, East & West Coast shows with Chuck Ragan and Frank Turner, and releasing singles that included covers of Descendents and The Beatles.

Jeff Berman has truly been burning the candle at both ends for the last couple of years and it’s all culminating with the release of a new singles collection titled V. Putting together the new songs, covers, singles and rarities for V granted Jeff the opportunity to look at the songs from a new perspective and reimagine them when necessary. It also provided Jeff with the opportunity to collaborate with some of his favorite artists, such as Jared Hart (Mercy Union), Matze Rossi, Sam Russo, Tiny Stills, Joy Weather, and more. One of the highlights of the album is a track titled “Em”, a memorial to Emily Matview (Punks in Vegas) who tragically passed away in 2021. Jeff Berman has not made it easy on himself. For the past 12 years the DIVIDED HEAVEN frontman has tried relentlessly to buck the typical singer-songwriter mold with his unique writing style and career path. The new DIVIDED HEAVEN album, Oblivion, out February 4th on A-F Records (US) and Gunner Records (EU), blazes that ambition forward with a bang, a dash of weird, a pinch of Satanism, and a heavy dose of sex and politics resulting in an unapologetic and provocative DIVIDED HEAVEN album like none before.

“I had to write a record that matched the times: delicate to chaotic, heartfelt to dirty,” says Berman. “Before, I would’ve shied away from topics such as sexual assault and victim blaming but this time I called-out the disgusting misogyny (in the track ‘Reckoning’) and threw shade at the abusers in our music scene (in the track ‘Creep’). Before, I might’ve tried to portray some semblance of decency about my fellow citizenry; this time I lament that goodness and kindness are losing the culture war (in the track ‘Panic’) and trolling is rewarded over intelligence (in the track ‘Burn Me’).” Oblivion is the most ambitious DIVIDED HEAVEN album yet, as Berman states, “I landed at the geographic musical midpoint of my heart: directly between (Carole King’s) Tapestry and (Motley Crue’s) Shout At The Devil. Odd as that may sound, that helped guide my attempt to combine sensibility with attitude and helped me shift from Americana to overdrive rock.”

Over two years, Berman enlisted four different producers to create a diverse vibe across the 10 tracks on Oblivion. Once again working with longtime producer Charlie Stavish (who most notably worked with Jenny Lewis, Vacation Manor and produced the lead single from Oblivion, the politically scorching ‘They Poisoned Our Fathers’ which features the incomparable Lydia Loveless), Berman also worked with UK-Singer-Songwriter juggernaut Frank Turner, whose production brought a whole new power to a DIVIDED HEAVEN album. In addition, Berman recorded three tracks for the album in Antwerp, Belgium with producer Tim van Doorn (longtime producer for Joe McMahon and Tim Vantol) who brought out the most graceful songs of Berman’s career, including the second single ‘Baby in the Band’. Lastly, pop producer Mike Biancaniello (who has notably worked with 5 Seconds of Summer) highlighted a new vivid hue to Berman’s songwriting to round out the album.

Either solo or with the band in tow, DIVIDED HEAVEN are equally proper on festival stages at Punk Rock Bowling, SXSW and the FEST as they are in the seated listening-rooms of Hotel Cafe and the Ramones Museum and has shared stages with Dave Hause, Matze Rossi, Anti-Flag, Ryoko, Spanish Love Songs, Slingshot Dakota, Jared Hart, The Flatliners, Sundowner, Tiny Stills and many more.

Charlotte Sands – Punchy And Direct

If 2023 has been great to Charlotte Sands, 2024 looks set to be bigger still.

That eagerly anticipated album, ‘can we start over?’, will finally be unleashed on January 24th and the following months will see Charlotte taking those songs to the world at large, including her first set at the UK’s renowned Download festival. In the meantime, this year brings one final highlight for Charlotte as she shares the new single ‘pity’. Listen HERE.

he most vitriolic of Charlotte’s recent singles, ‘pity’ plays out raw, punchy and direct – a barbed wire guitar riff snaking around her searing, full-throttle vocal attack as the track’s sonic dynamics leap from threatening verses to a visceral shout along hook. As with the best of Charlotte’s discography, ‘pity’channels vulnerable emotions into a blood-letting, cathartic release in a way that will connect with her ever-growing following.

Charlotte says, “‘pity’ is a song about meeting ‘the perfect person’ and wishing you could be more like them. It’s about the feeling of jealousy and comparing yourself but also about the experience of being captivated by someone else’s existence. Making this song was such a fun experience, I wanted the production to feel like a high energy show opener while the melody stayed simple and repetitive so everyone could scream the words together when we finally get to perform it live.”

‘pity’ joins ‘use me’ and ‘get over it’ in generating pre-release hype for the ‘can we start over?’ album. Those three tracks sprawl across the sonic spectrum of the record’s varying moods, moving confidently from dark pop atmospherics to angsty, ‘90s-style alt-rock, and classic singer-songwriter vibes which reveal her deep-seated vulnerabilities. As an album which holds a mirror up to who Charlotte is right now, it feels right that it seemed to dictate its own direction. It took shape last May when Charlotte arrived in Los Angeles for what was intended to be a brief few sessions with Jutes, Alex Nice and Keith ‘Ten4’ Sorrells. But the songs took shape not only quickly but at a career-high standard with that team writing all three of the album’s singles so far, providing Charlotte with the platform to complete the biggest statement of her career to date.

ELECTRIC SIX – Burrowing Into Your Dance Hole

Everyone’s favourite disco-punk act Electric Six return to the UK/RoI in November and December to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of their chartbusting debut album, ‘Fire’, which was home to the hit singles ‘Danger! High Voltage’, ‘Gay Bar’ and ‘Dance Commander’.

The set will see the entire record performed in its entirety, as well as fan favourites and new songs.

Ferge X Fisherman – Kicking Things Up

German hip-hop duo Ferge X Fisherman have previously released three well received jazz-infused albums.

For their upcoming new record, ‘Good Mother’, they deploy gospel choirs, vintage strings, soulful Rhodes chords and wah-wah guitar pedals to give the entire record a distinctly ‘70s film soundtrack vibe.

‘Good Mother’ is a concept work about facing up to and embracing various life stages, with the song ‘Lace Up’ issued today as its introductory single. With a lyric that addresses the loss of juvenile ideals amid increased responsibilities, its laid-back feel and precise production by Ferge serves as the perfect bedrock for Fritz Fisherman to rap like a jazz instrumentalist would solo. For a non-native English speaker, he sounds flippin’ fantastic.

Having originally met as teenagers while skateboarding in Nuremberg, an immediate chemistry between the two swiftly extended to involve crack jazz quartet Nujakasha, who have become an integral part of the FXF set-up both live and in the studio. It is a partnership that has already seen the release of ‘Gone Fishing’ (2018), ‘Blinded By The Neon’ (2020) and ‘Duality’ (2022), on which the likes of Noah Slee, Black Milk, Takuya Kuroda and Hunter Rose have also guested.

‘Good Mother’ kicks things up to another level, boasting a reappearance from Kuroda plus features from Mick Jenkins, Jerome Thomas and Ceeopatra on a multi-dimensional coming-of-age album that explores the complexities involved in the process of growing-up; formative experiences, evaluation of past decisions, sexual insecurity, financial and emotional concerns, as well as the acknowledgement of universal fears as time ticks by. Caroline Romano – She Can Pull It Off

Nashville-based alt-pop sensation Caroline Romano returns with her new single, “girl in a china shop,” out on all streaming platforms now.

“girl in a china shop” is an emotional rollercoaster of a song. Caroline juxtaposes the song’s explosive, untempered chorus with stripped-back, reflective verses. It’s a delicate balancing act that only an artist as meticulous as Caroline can pull off.

“I often feel like I break everything I touch. I’ve come to view myself as one major juxtaposition,” says Caroline. “One thing I’ve learned is that as life moves on, things get broken in the process. Whether it’s relationships, or my own heart, I’ve come to realize that it’s all too easy to shatter either one by my own hand. At times it’s left me feeling uncomfortable in my own skin and with my own footing. ‘girl in a china shop is my attempt at acknowledging that, in a way that summarizes the chaotic feeling that is navigating myself and other’s emotions.”

Jessie Wagner is an in-demand touring vocalist who has shared stages with the likes of Lenny Kravitz, Chic, Duran Duran, Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul) and is the front-woman for NYC rock/soul band Army of the Underdog.

She released her critically acclaimed debut solo album ‘Shoes Droppin’ in 2020.

It’s been a long journey to center stage for Jessie Wagner. Having gained her greatest exposure to date by singing songs everyone knows the words to, on some of the world’s biggest stages, it’s only now, through sharing her own triumphs and pain, that the spotlight is shining directly on her at last.

After logging thousands of miles as an in-demand vocalist, most recently Little Steven and The Disciples Of Soul, Jessie Wagner revealed a very personal collection of songs with ‘Shoes Droppin’ her 2020 debut solo album for Wicked Cool Records.

Displaying an impressive range encompassing bluesy R&B, neo-soul, acoustic balladry and rock a la John Mayer’s more confessional side, Shoes maintained a unified sound rooted in ’60s and ’70s style production. The songs traced times of darkness and redemption for the Norfolk, Virginia native, now based in New York City, who also fronts the rock/soul band Army of the Underdog.

Recorded during downtime from the Little Steven world tour, ‘Shoes Droppin” was produced by drummer Dave Diamond (Bob Weir, Derek Trucks) with engineer Chris Laybourne, and featured co-writes with seasoned soul guitarist Sherrod Barnes(Beyoncé, Angie Stone, Ashanti, Whitney Houston, Roberta Flack and Queen Latifah).
