Diana McGrane – A Labour Of Love

Diana McGrane is a songwriter based in the Los Angeles area.

Daughter of a Golden Gloves Light Heavyweight Boxing champion on her father’s side and a Mexican poet, singer, and guitarist on her mother’s, she felt she had inherited both the love for the written word and the willingness to fight for her dreams.

After graduating from college, working as a professional, and becoming a wife and mother, she realized that she had indeed accomplished her dreams in life, except for the one she’d had as a little girl of five years old, when she memorized all the lyrics for Harry Nilsson’s “Without You” and played it a hundred times because the lyrics were so cleverly written, or the little girl that would write a new song every time she visited Zuma beach and sang along the shallow edge of the ocean expecting the waves to sing along with her. It was the dream that had been hiding inside of her the whole time: songwriting.

Soon after recognizing her need to express herself in music, she revisited her old guitar and began strumming the chords that she’d been hearing all along, as she likes to quote, “The songs just came pouring out!”

Now she has accumulated a collection of music that is inspirational, fun, and appealing. Her first release was with friend and singer, CJ Wallace as the duo, McGraneand Wallace. Together they sang “P.C.H.” to much acclaim from various media outlets. Written by McGrane, the song was a labor of love reminiscing about days gone by at the beach.

Diana hopes to touch each person’s heart with her new release “Can I See Your Lovely?” She hopes it will inspire people to remember to cherish the time they have with the ones they love.

ALLMAN BROWN – A Tale Of Two Halves

ALLMAN BROWN – returns in 2024 with the brand new song “My Ordinary Life”.

Following his warmly received 2023 EP ‘Second Son, Pt. 1’, the artist can confirm that its sequel will arrive early this year, with both collections forming two separate halves of a brand new album entitled ‘Second Son’.

“I’m a second son, a stranger to most but loved by some. I’ve been afraid since I was young” confesses Brown in the opening verse of “My Ordinary Life”, “It takes a lot of pretending to be strong”.

Hallmarked with the vivid storytelling and self-effacing songwriting that Allman Brown calls his own, “My Ordinary Life” is one of his most personal and poignant singles so far – “a pocket autobiography” in Allman’s own words, referencing key moments in his journey so far. He explains further:

“It’s about my life so far and the love I feel for my wife and children and how they are quite simply the reason I’m alive. They are my purpose. I really enjoy how this song doesn’t really have a chorus, just a little refrain and a change in my phrasing. I wrote it in about two hours which was a rush.”

Pulsing with a persistent beat, glistening electronics, and guitar lines just bursting to be heard in the great wide open, Allman’s impassioned vocal beckons this earnest, enrapturing track to its climactic finale. A full-force, heart-on-sleeve, pop ballad for the here and now, “My Ordinary Life” was created with the assistance of Peter Katis (The National, Interpol, Gang Of Youths), whose expertise enables Brown to take the next step in his “quest to take a traditional sound and push it a little into a new space” here.

Part of a new five-track collection, ‘Second Son, Pt. 2‘ will pick up where its predecessor left-off and will spotlight a deeply personal chapter in his musical journey. Exploring themes of love, loss, self-reflection, and the human experience; together the EPs invite listeners to embark on a profound emotional journey with Allman, who aims to strip his songs to their essence and embrace vulnerability and authenticity.

Experimenting with new sounds and instrumentation on his latest work, the ‘Second Son’ sessions found Allman merging his signature acoustic guitar-driven melodies with modern pop elements such as synths, live bass, electronic pianos, electronic percussion, and live drums. Produced by Peter Katis, his latest material was recorded in just ten days, and finds Allman joined by pianist Thomas Bartlett (The Gloaming, Taylor Swift, The National) and vocalist Kori Gardner-Hammel (Mates Of State).

Allman Brown, born in Hong Kong and now based in London, has consistently wowed listeners with his emotionally charged and introspective music. His 2013 hit single, “Sons & Daughters” (performed with Liz Lawrence), became a Spotify sensation with over 20 million streams worldwide and was featured on popular TV soundtracks. His debut album, ‘1000 Years,’ in 2017, and ‘Darling, It’ll Be Alright’ in 2019, received critical acclaim for their tender balladry and folk-infused pop.

OYSTERBAND – Hasta La Vista, Folkies

One of the UK’s foremost folk rock bands – OYSTERBAND – are announcing that they are calling time on their live career and will be performing live with June Tabor for the last time.

After 45 years on the road, the legendary Canterbury-formed collective will be hanging up their touring boots and bringing their unique partnership with the English folk songstress to a worthy conclusion.

But it’s not over yet… With a tour aptly named “A Long Long Goodbye”, Oysterband will be bowing-out in style with a year of unmissable shows planned at some of their favourite haunts, where they will be performing a career-spanning set, including highlights of their collaborations with June Tabor.

Recently announced for the 2024 Cambridge Folk Festival where the band have become the stuff of festival legend over the years, the band will then head-out on a string of seven shows alongside longstanding creative compadre June Tabor this October.

In a statement about the upcoming tour, Oysterband said:

“We’re hanging up our travelling shoes, but we’re taking a year or so to say goodbye to our lovely live audience. And we mean to enjoy every minute! Emerging in the early 80s from their folk club and ceilidh band days, Oysterband infused both the traditional and their own songs with a passion and energy that was electrifying. Polkas, politics and a heaving dance floor seemed just right for Thatcher’s Britain. Signing to new roots label Cooking Vinyl, headlining English Roots Against Apartheid, playing Glastonbury and the Fleadh several times each, touring with The Pogues in Europe and Billy Bragg in North America, hosting their Big Session Festival in The Midlands. All gained them a large and loyal following both at home and internationally.

Endlessly touring and writing over the course of their 45 year career, the band have played all over the world and released dozens of studio releases throughout their career, including seminal albums like ‘Holy Bandits’ (1993), ‘The Shouting End of Life’ (1995) and ‘Diamonds On The Water’ (2014), not to mention timeless compilations, and unbeatable live albums.

Initially collaborating with June Tabor in 1990, the meeting of minds produced the cult favourite ‘Freedom & Rain’. Reconnecting some 21 years later, the resultant album ‘Ragged Kingdom’ would become one of the best-selling folk-rock albums of the new millennium.

And Oysterband’s efforts have not gone unnoticed either. Awarded winners of several BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, including Best Band twice, Oysterband’s song-writing has never stood still, and hits such as “The Oxford Girl”, “When I’m Up (I Can’t Get Down)”, “Everywhere I Go” and “Put Out The Lights” are now staples of the folk canon.

Most recently, Oysterband released their final studio album ‘Read The Sky’ to much acclaim in 2021 and recently undertook an extensive tour of Europe, plus a special “Decades” tour across the UK where they explore their back catalogue. FREYA BEER – She’ll Rub Off On You

FREYA BEER releases her brand new single “Write Her Off (WHO)”.

With lyrics taut with sexual tension and banshee-like shrieks, pressure-point ramping percussion and razored guitar breaks; on her latest work Freya Beer unspools a darkly thrilling encounter about the cat-and-mouse game that is dating.

“You’ve got lust in your eyes and it takes you by surprise, but you know it” purrs Freya as she presides over the scene unfolding on “Write Her Off (WHO)”. Hailed as a “raw and thrilling talent”, Freya Beer is a singer-songwriter from West London. Inspired by art, literature, alternative fashion and music, Freya distils her disparate influences through a gothic soul and devil-may-care spirit that dares to dream in the darkness.

Having sparked a wave of attention from the get-go with her self-released debut single “Bike Boy”’ and follow-up “Six Months” in 2018, Freya earned a BBC Introducing Live Lounge Session and a feature on Tom Robinson’s BBC Radio 6 Music show — and so the roller coaster began.

With the wind in her sails, Freya launched her own label Sisterhood Records in 2019 as a vehicle to further her creativity. Bonner Black – A Rare Talent

Nashville based indie pop singer/songwriter Bonner Black is setting a marker with the release of her much anticipated debut full-length studio album ‘Hopeless RomANTICS’ with the record dropping February 13, just in time for Valentines Day.

The 9 track record is a testament of the hard work and determination that has spearheaded Bonner Black’s career in Nashville where she’s spent the last decade perfecting her craft as an artist.

A watercolor painting of charmingly bright acoustics, driven retro pop groovers, and timeless straight forward “Music City Storytelling” the overall sound of ‘Hopeless RomANTICS’ is distinctively Bonner Black with its fresh, innovative and playful style.

There’s something truly soothing about the soft vocal control that the Hot Rock, TN native delivers her enriching lyrics with, but there’s a strength buried beneath and her true storyteller soul is on full show throughout the entire LP.

Speaking about the album, Bonner Black states: “I didn’t set out to write an album. I was just writing songs and then one day Jake goes, “Dude, let’s turn this into a project .” I said, “okay we’ll do eight”. We ended up recording nine. I listened to them over the course of the next few weeks whilst running errands, working out, cleaning my bathroom, sitting in traffic, walking through the park, and I even listened to them whilst I was waiting at baggage claim.. The album is from the perspective of my imaginative idealistic, overly ambitious true self. These songs are the product of my brain observing my heart with it even knowing it was being watched”

Bonner Black, the classically trained ballerina turned singer/songwriter from Hot Rock, TN, began her life on stage at 4 years old. Surrender your ears as Royal Republic are back with the release of their new album LoveCop on June 7^th via Odyssey Music.

The self-proclaimed Power-Disco quartet have also released the title track, an audacious anthem which comes with its own 80s inspired workout video to guide your groove with the infectious sweat-dripping bass lines, stadium sized choruses and explosive Van Halen-esque guitar solo.

The band comment, “This one is here to inform all the love-abiding citizens that you’re basically free to do whatever the fuck you want. If that’s not enough to make you wanna take off your clothes and dance, you are hereby charged with two counts of being a drag.
LoveCop says you have the right to remain loud! You have the right to remain wicked. So put your hands behind your head… and dance!”

Produced by Adam Grahn and Michael Ilbert at the legendary Hansa Studios in Berlin, LoveCop is the band’s fifth studio album and sees them at their most bold, brazen and brilliant. The band also recently teased the upcoming album with the release of ‘My House’, which is another dirty guitar driven, funk-fuelled feisty anthem, which the band proclaim is “the latest weapon in the fight against bad parties.”

Breaking all rock’n’roll norms since 2007, the Swedish power-disco quartet are formed of Adam Grahn (vocals), Hannes Irengård (guitar), Jonas Almén (bass) and Per Andreasson (drums). They first came onto the scene with their 2010 debut album We Are The Royal, which features the hit single ‘Tommy Gun’, and have evolved through albums like Save The Nation and Club Majesty.
