Multi-platinum selling singer/songwriter Kip Moore releases his brand new song ‘Live Here to Work‘ along with a grunge-tinged rock n’ roll music video.

Available everywhere through Virgin Music Group, ‘Live Here to Work’ finds Moore reuniting with co-producer Jaren Johnston for a defiant, guitar-drenched anthem striking a rebellious chord between work/life balance as he contends “My time is short and it ain’t yours / Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind getting my hands in a little dirt / But I don’t live here to work.”

Moore teased the upcoming release of ‘Live Here to Work’ last week along with the announcement that he has partnered with Virgin Music Group for the next phase of his career. ROLLIN’ COFFIN – Anything Can Happen

Long Island heavy rock band ROLLIN’ COFFIN has revealed a new Jerry Farley directed video for the song “Heaven Knows” from their latest EP, Product of Demise, released by Static Era Records.

Led by revered frontman Tim Williams (Bloodsimple / Vision of Disorder), the band’s hard-charging single is an anthemic rocker reminiscent of early Nirvana and Alice In Chains with a modern edge that will have listeners banging their heads in no time.

Commenting on the song, Williams says:

“When I first heard “heaven knows” come across the speakers in the studio- I knew it was going to showcase the project. The day of the video shoot , the locations , Coney Island.. you know what they say about NYC – anything can happen…. And what happened was we got a killer video for you all to enjoy !!!!”

genCAB – A Happy Accident

genCAB frontman David Dutton put his group on hold following the release of 2008 debut album ‘II transMuter’, a forward thinking record in the electro-industrial genre that blended elements from EBM and synth-pop into song arrangements perfectly suited for aggressive rock.

They finally returned in 2022 with long-awaited follow-up ‘Thoughts Beyond Words’, as well as the genre bending ‘Everything You See Is Mine’ EP. These were promoted on a US tour supporting Aesthetic Perfection, for whom both Dutton and genCAB drummer Tim Van Horn had spent the intervening years playing live.

2023 saw genCAB sign to Metropolis Records, with the album ‘Signature Flaws’ appearing that autumn. A meditation on demise, it introduced elements of shoegaze and post-hardcore to an already densely amalgamated melting pot of sounds.

Having issued the ‘Let It Rip’ EP in late August, its lead track ‘Six Hits (Let It Be)’ is included on an album cryptically entitled ‘III I II (THIRD EYE GEMINI)’. Out on 20th September, half of it is a modern day update of the best material contained on their debut, with the remainder being brand new tracks inspired by the re-recordings.

“This album was more or less the happiest of accidents,” states Dutton. “Although the majority of it is a set of remakes, I was disconnected from it for years for various reasons. I was young and a completely different person when it was originally released. I also did not have the skill to finish a song in a way I considered to be professional sounding, so I just avoided listening back to it for years. I eventually reevaluated it and recognised aspects of myself that I thought had disappeared.”

Having already reworked the song ‘Perish The Thought’ from this period in order to play it live and sound as modern as newer genCAB material, Dutton decided it might be worthwhile to look at some of his other early tracks. However, there was a problem. “The original master tapes had disappeared. I didn’t have them, the label that originally released the record didn’t have them, nor did the engineer that helped me mix them years ago,” he explains. “I decided to rebuild the tracks from the ground up, putting not only most of the album back together, but also redoing a B-side from that era [‘DMT’]. I was also inspired to write new songs while back in that mindset, such as ‘Appentence’ and ‘Seasons In Hell’, which now acts as the perfect precursor for the song ‘Of Love And Death’.”

Dutton’s deft production results in an album that remains faithful to the feel of the original release, albeit in completely restructured form. With his vocals also sung with more confidence and conviction than before, it sounds fresher than ever.

Trashcan Sinatras / John Douglas – Built To Last

Celebrated songsmith John Douglas, co-founder and guitarist of beloved Scottish music icons Trashcan Sinatras, commemorates the 20th anniversary of a landmark TCS album with a live rendition of ‘Weightlifting’.

This timely offering accompanies news of guest appearances by fellow Trashcans Frank Reader and Paul Livingston, who will join Douglas for two shows on his ‘Lost in North America Tour – Part One’. Both of them appear in Seattle, with Reader also joining Douglas in LA.

Running throughout October, the ‘Lost in North America Tour’ is an intimate snapshot of Douglas’ talent, charisma and depth, showcasing both original material and new renditions of fave Trashcan Sinatras’ material. He is joined for West coast and Midwest dates by Lily Vakili of Vakili Band, and for East Coast dates by award-winning singer-songwriter Lauren Calve.

“‘Weightlifting’ was a milestone record in our journey. It took us a long time to make that record due to various hilarious sidetracks, including adventures in Japan with us as a six-piece band, and many many strung out, aimless days and nights in our adopted home of Kilmarnock, Scotland, a mad detour attempting to record in Hartford, USA (skillfully avoiding the nightly gunshots), and even a meeting with the landed gentry in Ayr County Court, where our banishment from the land of honest toil was finally ended,” says John Douglas.

“We returned from all those adventures with songs – songs of love, loss, redemption, forgiveness, bravado, friendship, wisdom, peace and tranquility. Songs that we swore ourselves to… and here we are 20 years on and it looks like we somehow built them to last. Somehow, from the chaotic depths, we found ourselves at the top of our game. It’s a miracle of a record.”

It’s been a fine year for Douglas, including a UK headlining tour, releasing his eponymous debut album via Reveal Records, UK Top-40 charting of Trashcan Sinatras’ reissued album ‘Cake’ (33 years since it debuted), and a new Trashcan Sinatras documentary, produced by award-winning Irish journalist Ken Sweeney, which also features Douglas performing beloved Trashcans’ songs.

‘Weightlifting’ is the second instalment in Douglas’ ‘Me & Midnight Sessions’, following ‘Oranges & Apples’. Earlier, he shared live videos for ‘I Just Want To Go Home’, ‘Lost’, ‘I’m Not The Fella’, ‘Always’ and ‘Leave Me Alone’ – all tracks from his debut album, recorded with renowned producer Mark Freegard (New Model Army, Lush, The Breeders, Del Amitri, Marillion).

Douglas shares, “This video was filmed in Ibrox, Glasgow in a flat that was once shared by a young couple, who had come to the end of their time together. On the night of my filming, I had helped one of them move out the final pieces of furniture and accompanied them as they said goodbye to what they used to call home. I returned later, on my own, to the now empty flat… just before midnight… and filmed myself singing what felt like a very appropriate song. A bittersweet night that will hopefully allow a healing to begin and for pain to be left behind. I changed the lyric a little to suit the mood.”

John Douglas’ debut album is available on CD and digitally via Bandcamp, as well as from fine online platforms. His ‘Lost in North America Tour – Part One’ kicks off in Los Angeles on October 1. Vinyl & CD versions of the solo album will be available at the shows, as well as a ‘tour exclusive’ 4-track EP of newly recorded material on CD and the mini-book ‘Rambling – How I got here to your town on my own’, accompanied by glorious photos by Stephanie Gibson. All these goodies are available for one night only as Douglas journeys through America.

Boy Jr. is the songwriting/production project of Ariel Allen-Lubman (they/them).

Leading single “I Hope You Feel Terrible” is an honest and relatable narrative of wanting to confront the one who did you wrong. Boy Jr. confides, “You know how people will tell you to write a letter you’ll never send when you’re upset with someone? “I Hope You Feel Terrible” is like the letter I wasn’t supposed to send. It is for everyone who wishes they could have a romcom-like confrontation with someone who hurt them and tell them exactly how they really feel, with the perfect closing one liner and everything.” Second single “Bullying Myself” is all about those negative things we tell ourselves. Boy Jr. confides, “I find myself repeating a lot of the same unkind thoughts when I’m going through something, but if anyone ever said these things to me or a friend, I’d be pissed! So instead of letting it rot on the inside, I’m airing it out and releasing it outside.” Then there is the highly relatable track “Still Be Friends” a rather sarcastic way of showing the way the artist hears someone’s breakup spiel.

The track is irresistible and witty, conveying the deep emotions many of us have after a breakup. “I’m Breaking Up With You” is all about that angry phase, the one needed after a breakup to move on. Boy Jr confides, “I realized I was still harping on how I GOT broken up with and so I wrote this song to let myself get angry and do my share of the breaking up. And ya know what, making this song really helped me put those feelings in the past. And now I’ve got a headbanger to show for it.”

Hazlett – Musically Rich And Exquisite

Following the first part of Goodbye to the Valley Low released in late 2023, Australian musician Hazlett releases its ‘Side B’ follow-up, bringing both EPs together to make a full-length album, out 4th October via Nettwerk.

Recorded in an off-grid cabin in the middle of Scandinavian nowhere, the first part of Hazlett’s Goodbye to the Valley Low was released towards the end of last year.

It’s a stripped-back collection of delicate indie-folk songs brimming with personal anecdotes told through the Sweden-based artist’s polished introspective songwriting, and produced by longtime collaborator Freddy Alexander.

It resonated with listeners everywhere and Hazlett was soon inspired to revisit the cabin, knowing there was more to explore. This new EP completes this project, six brand new songs, which together with the first EP, makes one cohesive album. The songs are once again exquisitely layered and the tracks are timeless, yet the musicality is richer, and Hazlett’s vocals soar across the 6 tracks. Out October 4th, vinyl fans will also be able to purchase Goodbye to the Valley Low on vinyl in its final form as a 12-track album.

Hazlett – ‘Truth be told there was never meant to be a Side B to Goodbye to the Valley Low. I actually wanted to move onto something else, but the more that I tried moving on from it the more I kept getting pulled back. I realised just how many deeper questions my time in the cabin had raised, I thought I had unpacked it all but there was more digging to be done and somewhere deeper to go with it all. If Side A was the curiosity of the cabin, then Side B is working through all the questions that it left behind.’

Opening with lead single ‘Bones Shake’, its haunting background of broken guitars and candid lyrics are grounds for a coming-of-age folk song, culminating in a thumping but ethereal chorus justifying the large space between home and somewhere, anywhere else. As Hazlett explains, ‘Whether it’s time or distance, sometimes the further you get away the clearer it all becomes to piece things together and make your comeback.’

With a similar theme of seeking distance and an ever-so-slight twang of country, ‘The First Train Home’ is delivered as softly as a lullaby, yet the lyrics come from a place deep in thought: ‘I’m nobody’s problem if I never go home… Can you come on over and just fill up the space?’ Also attempting to untangle complex emotions is ‘Do You Haunt Me’, a soft beat pulsing throughout the track as Hazlett’s crystal-clear vocals yearn for something certain among the haziness. And on the gently lilting ‘I’m Not Ready to Go’, there’s a darker and almost desperate air lyrically, despite the barely-there guitar strums – ‘I’m not ready to be done with my time… got too much to see.’

With standout track ‘Shiver’, its sweeping arrangement and gently philosophical lyrics delivered with a plaintive vocal sees the songwriter pondering over the difficulty of making the right choices in life – a feeling most of us can relate to. Hazlett describes it as ‘this tug-o-war in my head of how much control do I really have of my life? Do I have to be petrified of every decision I make? Or do I just say whatever will be will be and sit back? I think to some extent whatever path we take life has a funny way of taking us to our destination anyway.’

Closing out Goodbye to the Valley Low is the hypnotic ‘Old Salt’, with enthralling vocals delivering one more expansive set of harmonies, and bringing an end to a journey that has taken the best part of a year. This was never meant to be a two-sided project, but Hazlett acknowledges that sometimes the right time and the right place inspires more than what was bargained for, and embracing the unknown can ultimately be a good thing:

‘Even without consciously thinking about it, Scandinavia is where I’ve done all my growing up musically. And I think whenever we grow up, the place where we did it affects us more than we know. I’d say the main theme for both sides of the album are about learning myself and changing the thoughts I had, as well as the influence that time and place has on someone. I guess that’s why there is a Side A and a Side B.Time and place is all it takes. I’m very thankful that both came my way to make Goodbye to the Valley Low.’

2023 was a busy year for Hazlett, as he released his debut album Bloom Mountain to positive support from the likes of The Line of Best Fit and Atwood Magazine, having previously received acclaim from CLASH, NME and When The Horn Blows. Going on to support Wild Rivers and Josiah & The Bonnevilles across the UK and Europe, he ended the year by releasing the first part of Goodbye to the Valley Low. This year is also shaping up to be a monumental one for the artist – with new music out and having opened shows for LANY, Calum Scott, Passenger and Ocie Elliott, Hazlett will be embarking on a lengthy run of headline shows across North America (as well as a stint supporting John Vincent III), the UK and Europe, some of which are already sold out.

Valletta – A Potent Mix

Blackened Arena Rock? Melancholic Grunge n’ Roll? Valletta’s anthemic approach to song writing and energetic stage performance certainly makes you wonder.

The band’s forthcoming full-length debut album, Summer, seeks to incinerate metal norms and create a new sound that is as grimey as it is electrifying!.

Valletta comes with an impressive pedigree. The band features drummer Justin Valletta (Mo’ynoq), bassist/backing vocalist Donald Boyd (Mo’ynoq), guitar/lead vocalist Keenan Carroll (Lord Almighty, ex-Barishi), and guitarist/backing vocalist Will Goodyear (Hopesfall, Prayer for Cleansing, ex-Between The Buried and Me).

Metal Hammer called the band’s debut EP, Come Alive, “A potent mix of Celtic Frost, Satyricon and The Bronx, this is fantastically catchy, bleak, old-school extreme metal with rock’n’roll hooks.” Summer takes that penetrating foundational mix and supercharges the musicianship and songwriting, resulting in 12 tracks guaranteed to leave neurological imprints!

The band released the following statement about Summer:

“The new album, Summer, has been a real exploration in tearing down walls that we had previously built up over the years. Each of us coming from different musical backgrounds, there’s been this strong sense of letting go and allowing the music to unfold, regardless of how uncomfortable it may be. That’s been the beauty of this journey we’ve started together, and it’s been a great ride so far!

During the writing process, a constant theme that emerged was the idea of duality. From heavier, grimier riffs to beautiful, stoic melodies. From slower, muddy depths to faster, anthemic leads. From frozen wastelands, to summer nights, we’ve been on a journey to explore our limitations musically and emotionally. Spin that shit up!”

Princess Goes – release a Deluxe Edition of their critically acclaimed second album, ‘Come Of Age’ (via SO In De Goot Recordings). Stream HERE.

The New York trio – comprising Michael C. Hall (Dexter, Six Feet Under, Lazarus) alongside keyboardist Matt Katz-Bohen (Blondie, Cyndie Lauper) and drummer Peter Yanowitz (The Wallflowers, Morningwood) – are revisiting their latest work with an expanded format, which will now include creatively reimagined versions of tracks, plus thrilling live versions from their 2023 shows.

Teaming-up with esteemed producer Brandon Bost (Mumford & Sons, U2, Lorde, Norah Jones, etc), the reimagined versions being made available exclusively on this release were all recorded at Echo Mountain Studio in Asheville, NC in the USA; with Bost also lending his expertise to the mixing of the tracks.

Among the reimagined tracks, listeners will also hear a brand new version of the fan favourite “Armageddon Suite”, from Princess’s debut album. Born from a prolific jamming session earlier this year, the band felt this re-invigorated version of the ‘Thanks For Coming’ classic felt so natural that they simply had to include it on their expanded edition of ‘Come of Age’.

Elsewhere, fans who caught Princess Goes’ epic headline set at EaRTH back in October 2023, will also have the opportunity to listen back to the transcendent version of “Beija (Live)” aired that night, with the track included as part of the seventeen-track Deluxe Edition.

PIG – A Crackling Release

The anger of PIG head hog Raymond Watts burns and binds as he cooks up more of the kick-ass on his coruscating new EP, ‘Feast of Agony’.

He begs listeners to march to the drumbeat of hope with six epic songs and encounters with the Lord of Lard, in which he brings word to the wordless and truth to the truthless.

The EP kicks off with ‘Heroin for the Damned’, a monstrous song co-written with Watts’ Collaborator in Chief Jim Davies that screams like a demon officiating at his own funeral while trying to stem the wounds of reality with the joy juice of depravity. The accompanying tracks ‘Fallout’, ‘Comedown’, ‘Hand of Mercy’, ‘The Ratchet Effect’ and ‘Baptise Bless & Bleed’ are a cure that’s kind…and a call to the deserts of desperation from the promised land of truth.

In summary, ‘Feast of Agony’ is the sound of PIG crushing the grinding wheel of grief with the seed of hope and relief.‘Feast of Agony’ follows the recent remastered reissue of PIG’s landmark 1995 album ‘Sinsation’ and the 2024 studio album ‘Red Room’, both of which are available via Metropolis Records.

Watts will continue his oration against hopelessness, hypocrisy and the ever creeping tide of despair on PIG’s Heroin for the Damned tour across North America this autumn.

Raymond Watts aka PIG has enjoyed a stellar career since starting out as a pioneering member of the mid-1980s industrial rock scene. As well as releasing fourteen albums as PIG, he has toured with KMFDM (he was a member of the band in their early days), Nine Inch Nails and Einstürzende Neubauten, written music for fashion and film for Chloe, Marios Schwab, Halston, The Row, as well as creating the sound design for the exhibition ‘Punk: Chaos to Couture’ at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

Watts also collaborated with the late fashion icon Alexander McQueen, who commissioned him (with John Gosling) to embellish the serene instrumental track ‘Inside’ (from the 1999 PIG album ‘Genuine American Monster’ album) for the soundtrack to ‘Plato’s Atlantis’. The show was reprised after McQueen’s untimely death in as the finale of ‘Savage Beauty’, a posthumous retrospective that broke all records at both The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Victoria & Albert Museum.

Much of PIG’s 2024 studio album ‘Red Room’ was co-written with Jim Davies, a longtime member of Pitchshifter but best known for his acidic and acerbic guitar lines on many chart hits by The Prodigy.
