Leeann Skoda is a vocalist and songwriter based in Los Angeles. Combining intricately-woven melodies and folky vocals, Skoda creates a dreamy kind of Americana. Her lush new EP, Lucky Penny, merges pop and Americana.
Recorded at Studio PunchUp in Nashville with a cast of ace Nashville and LA-based players, Lucky Penny is a unique collection of songs that came to fruition over a month-long songwriting binge.
Leeann was inspired to write the first single, “The Living Room,” off of her upcoming project by a heartbreaking true story. “The Living Room” touches on the melancholy and mysterious and was inspired by a story about a woman who spies on her young neighbors, whom she initially envies for their carefree, bohemian lifestyle. When one of the neighbors tragically passes away, she is confronted with the frailty of life. “The Living Room” is set to release on July 23rd.
In contrast to the first single, the second single “I Believe” is an up-tempo, trippy love song. With Liz Phair-esque tongue-and-cheek lyrics and electric guitar that evokes Blind Melon, this tune will make you want to frolic in a field in your bee costume. While light-hearted on the surface, this song also reveals a deeper message of being open to love. “I Believe” will be released on August 25th.
Both singles represent the main contrasting themes of the record, loss and transformation respectively. The themes are communicated masterfully through both the lyrical elements and the orchestration. This record combines substantive lyrics, honest storytelling, and lush instrumentation to create a well-rounded collection of songs. Lucky Penny will be released on November 5th.
