Doug Biggert was the manager of a sandal shop in Newport Beach, California in the early 1970s.
Doug spent most of his time taking pictures of his customers and passers-by with his Kodak Instamatic.
Doug traveled throughout the U.S. by Volkswagen bug and shot 450 portraits of hitch-hikers he met and picked up along the way. His book, Hitch Hikers, selects 70 colour images from his personal archive, most taken in northern California. Fantastic portraiture, easy, insightful, warm, with shades of homoeroticism.
