Mellor SHARES ‘Battle Hardened’ Single ANNOUNCES Problematic Passions LP
Lawless UK rock band Mellor will be releasing their latest single, ‘Battle Hardened’, on the 16th of September, which premiered via Atwood Magazine and is taken from their forthcoming album, Problematic Passions, which is set to be released on the 11th of November via Triple B Records.
With over 2.8 million streams on Spotify alone, Mellor has also received airplay from BBC Introducing Berkshire, BBC Radio 1’s Abbie McCarthy, and BBC 6 Music’s Tom Robinson among others.
Their previously released EP, Dive into the Strange, reached #2 on the iTunes rock album chart and #3 on the Amazon Music rock album chart. The band has played the same festivals as industry legends, including the Isle of Wight Festival, where Biffy Clyro and Noel Gallagher headlined, as well as the UK independent Truck Festival, which saw the likes of Wolf Alice, Foals, and Two Door Cinema Club.
The Reading-based band was started by Gary Kingham (lead vocal and guitar) and Josh Woodward (bass) who met in college, but, after a few auditions, recruited Sam Igoe (drums) and Kristian Bell (guitar). The members share a diverse range of inspirations, citing the likes of Oasis, Arctic Monkeys, Biffy Clyro, Stone Roses, The Mars Volta, Libertines, The Smiths, Foo Fighters, Wesley Gonzalez, and Foals. Their sound can be likened to Arctic Monkeys, Foals, The White Stripes, and Pink Floyd.
‘Battle Hardened’ is a force to be reckoned with. Rapid-fire hi-hats scatter throughout the single, and melancholic lyrics pull listeners down into the trenches, where they are guided across a battleground of love. With an artillery of unstoppable drums and amp-wrecking guitars, Mellor gives us a forward-driving single that cuts through the noise.
Mellor speaks on their new single: “One of the few songs we’ve written where the chorus is more of a melodic noise, rather than lyrics. We didn’t know how it was going to turn out all through the recording process, but it quickly became a favourite amongst us. Very mischievous sounding track, complemented by the lyrics. A been there done that, stubborn attitude to love.”
