Ah, the ever-resilient Dollyrots, a group that refuses to let go of their infectious optimism even as the world around them goes to the proverbial dogs.
They return, gracing our eardrums with a delightful new single, “Still Holding On,” a tune that manages to cling to the idea that human connection will save us from this rather peculiar existence we call modern life. How quaint.
The song comes as a tantalizing preview to their first full-length album since 2019, set to hit shelves this fall. The accompanying lyric video even features an AI-generated version of our dear Kelly, a rather fitting nod to the unsettling nature of our digital age.
Not content with merely one release, they’ve also gifted us with a 7-inch single in March, entitled “Hey Girl,” a product of their collaboration with the illustrious Stevie Van Zandt at his Renegade Studios in NYC. Lest we forget the B-side, a cover of the Divinyls’ classic, “I Touch Myself,” co-produced with their frequent conspirator, John Fields, who just so happens to have a hand in much of their upcoming LP.
And what would the Dollyrots be without their relentless desire to spread cheer and their exuberant live shows? As fate would have it, they’re hitting the road this summer, touring both the South and the West Coast with the help of their comrades, Don’t Panic and Dog Party. But wait, there’s more! The band will embark on a co-headlining journey with Tsunami Bomb this fall, even making a pitstop at the 3rd annual Camp Punksylvania Music & Camping Festival on September 1st. Held at the ever-iconic Circle Drive-In Theater in Pennsylvania, this event is sure to be a nostalgic haven for those longing for a time when optimism wasn’t such an anomaly.
