TEXAS COUNTRY SINGER-SONGWRITER STEPPED INTO THE HALLOWED CIRCLE ON MAY 16TH.
On a night packed with top-level talent including Josh Turner and Ashley McBryde, Texas country artist William Clark Green achieved a career milestone.
Yep, he made his debut at the Grand Ole Opry. Green, who put out his 6th studio album Baker Hotel in 2022, spoke to Whiskey Riff before stepping into the circle about his shock at being invited. “It became something I never thought I was going to do… I didn’t think we were even on the radar.”
Green’s performance at the famed country institution included the song “Anymore” from Baker Hotel, which hit #1 on Texas Country Radio just four days before his Opry debut. With the show coming two days after Mother’s Day, the Red Dirt rocker played “My Mother” from his 2018 album Hebert Island in a tribute to his mom and wife, both of whom were in attendance with his 10-month-old son.

Boasting sandpaper vocals and a country-rock sound, the Flint, TX native emerged like many others before – sauntering out from Lubbock’s live music loving college-bar scene – but has since carved out a space uniquely his own. Pairing singer-songwriter tradition with a progressive musical mindset, Green is both a troubadour of troubled souls and maestro to the merry makers of the night, renowned for underdog anthems filled with sardonic wit, vivid characters, and historical curiosity. Baker Hotel received acclaim from CMT, Wide Open Country, Bluegrass Situation, The Boot, Whiskey Riff, and many others.
With six albums, multiple Number Ones on Texas Regional Radio, and now as a member of the Grand Ole Opry, William Clark Green has no plans to slow down. He’s recently announced summer tour dates (view HERE) with a large fall tour to be announced soon. Fans can keep up with William Clark Green by visiting williamclarkgreen.com.
