Following up on the March release of ‘Collide’, Bristol-based indie-rock four-piece Chasing Kites
are pleased to unveil their upcoming single ‘The Woods’, due for release June 7th 2024.
Starting life in 2016 as the solo project of vocalist Matt Donnelly, Chasing Kites arrived at their full and final line-up in June of 2022, thanks to a series of ‘Band Members Wanted’ advertisements
and the miracles of social media.
The band have since gone on to be chosen as BBC Bristol’s ‘Big New Sound’ twice, with singles ‘Slide’ and ‘Two Towns’ both championed by the likes of Ones To Watch.
With echoes of Catfish and the Bottlemen, The Verve and The 1975, the band intertwine dynamic
hooks, 80s synth textures and vivid narratives, capturing reflections on the stories of Donnelly’s
youth.
Their upcoming single “The Woods,” recorded with Sam Winfield (Amber Run, Bring Me The Horizon) at Studio 91, depicts the near-death experience of frontman Donelly during his childhood. Using distorted guitars and fading rhythm to give the track a little more bite, the duality of darkness and energy that’s found in the song keeps your attention closely captured within the band’s own sea of sounds.

Discussing the inspirations behind the single, vocalist and lyricist Matt Donnelly explains, “The track tells the story of how I went missing when I was 18. Lyrically, the focus is on the thoughts that were going through my head at the point where I believed I wasn’t going to make it through the ordeal. It is because of this story that the track will always feel very raw.”
“The Woods” is due for release on June 7th, 2024, and will be available on all major platforms.
