Kaitlin Butts continues to carve out a space as one of the most dynamic and ambitious artists making country music today.
Her latest album, the high-concept but candidly autobiographical 17-song LP Roadrunner!, is out today via Soundly Music and with it comes the stunning video for album standout ‘Other Girls (Ain’t Havin’ Any Fun)’ – a song Butts co-wrote with Natalie Hemby.
The video for ‘Other Girls (Ain’t Havin’ Any Fun)’, directed by Chris Beyrooty (French Montana, Doja Cat, Matt Maeson) and choreographed by Noel Bajandas Jr. (Madonna, Miley Cyrus, Dancing With The Stars), is a showcase for the expansive vison Butts brings to her music and art, unencumbered by expectations of what a female country artist should look, sound or act like. Surrounded by a group of precise, seductive dancers, Butts exudes star-power, drawing viewers eyes as limbs and bodies expertly shift all around her.
“I put so much work, thought, and love into the making of Roadrunner! over the last four years and I am so proud to release it,” says Butts. “I think one of my favorite parts about making this album has been dreaming up colorful and dramatic music videos like “Other Girls (Ain’t Havin’ Any Fun)” that tie in visuals from my favorite musical, Oklahoma!. This was a big project to dream up, but it lit a fire under me and has turned out even better than I could have imagined.”
Roadrunner! has received early kudos from press – Rolling Stone declares Butts is “unafraid to test boundaries,” while No Depression calls her “one of the more creative songwriters making country music right now” – and radio and streaming are following suit. Roadrunner! is already top 15 at Americana radio and continues to climb. Songs from the album have been included on a variety of editorial streaming playlists, incuding Apple Music “New Music Daily” and “Country Risers; Spotify “Next From Nashville” and “The Pulse of Americana;” Amazon “Fresh Folk & Americana;” TIDAL “Pure Country” and “Country Waves;” and Pandora “Alt Country.”
Butts is nominated for “Emerging Act of the Year” at the 2024 Americana Honors & Awards, alongside Charles Wesley Godwin, The Red Clay Strays, Wyatt Flores and Jobi Riccio. The awards take place on September 18 at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN. Butts plays Lollapalooza, Under the Big Sky, Jackalope Jamboree and other festivals, and will tour with Dierks Bentley in the U.S. and with Flatland Cavalry in the UK this Summer, along with an appearance at The Long Road festival. Butts 31-date, first-ever coast-to-coast U.S. headline tour begins in July, and includes shows in Brooklyn, Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle, Minneapolis and Houston. She’ll wrap up the tour December 14th in her hometown of Tulsa, OK.
