For almost a decade AGMP Concerts have been presenting a celebration of Blues Music in London. From the early days of the London Blues Week to now the month long January Blues Festival, AGMP Concerts are dedicated to keeping the sound of live Blues music alive in London.
Blues music originated in the USA around the 1860’s with the first published blues song being Hart Wand’s ‘Dallas Blues’ in 1912. Mamie Smith recorded arguably the first Blues recording in 1920, a version of Percy Bradford’s ‘Crazy Blues’.
Pioneers of Blues music include Robert Johnson, Leadbelly, Ma Rainey, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Son House, Memphis Minnie and many more. In the 1950’s, Billboard Magazine created the first ‘Rhythm & Blues National Chart’ including artists such as Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Willie Dixon, Jimmy Reed, Elmore James, Little Walter, John Lee Hooker amongst others.
Blues music became the foundation of Rock ‘n’ Roll with artists such as Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry & Elvis Presley popularising the form. Rock ‘N’ Roll, Rhythm ‘n’ Blues and Blues influenced UK artists such as The Rolling Stones, The Animals, The Yardbirds, The Beatles, & Fleetwood Mac.
Blues music still continues to be popular around the world to this day. In 2025, the January Blues Festival will feature artists from around the world including The Fabulous Thunderbirds (USA), Sonny Landreth (USA), Ana Popovic (Serbia), Mud Morganfield a.k.a. Muddy Waters Jr. (USA), Harlem Lake (The Netherlands), Sugaray Rayford (USA), Anthony Gomes (USA), Chicago Blues Explosion! (USA) alongside some of the finest UK blues artists.
