The capital’s largest celebration of Latin music and culture La Linea has unveiled additional names for this year’s line-up as it prepares to mark its milestone 25thanniversary in April.
Having received the prestigious National Prize for Contemporary Music in her native Spain as well as a Latin GRAMMY, Sílvia Pérez Cruz has carved a career as one of the most captivating voices in contemporary music combining her love of folk, jazz, flamenco and Latin American melodies – watch her NPR Tiny Desk concert HERE – and is set to return to London at Union Chapel on Friday 2nd May.
With “an impeccable sense of groove” according to The Guardian, New Regency Orchestra continue to go from strength to strength following a triumphant show at WOMAD festival last year and the release of their self-titled debut album which was described by Far Out Magazine as a “beautiful menagerie of sounds and influences, awash with distinctive Latin funk and the spirit of 1950s NYC big band jazz.” The 18-piece band return to the festival for a show at the Jazz Café on Thursday 1st May as well as taking the sounds of La Linea on tour with shows confirmed at Cambridge Junction on Saturday 26th April and Manchester’s Band on the Wall on Saturday 3rd May.
The newly announced names join a host of global Latin stars and exceptional emerging talent from all corners of the thriving Latin scene including Grammy-winning Buena Vista Social Club star Eliades Ochoa, 23-year-old Mexican Latin Grammy winner Ed Maverick, Puerto Rican rap sensation Villano Antillano, one of the most successful Spanish artists of the 21st century Rodrigo Cuevas, Brazilian powerhouse Francisco, el Hombre performing their farewell UK show and London based multi-instrumentalist and LGBTQ+ rights activistAlex Etchart.
Also confirmed to play the festival this spring is Portuguese singer-songwriter and producer Ana Lua Caiano joined by special guest Guatemalan/Swiss singerBaby Volcano, multi-million streamed Muerdo and BadBadNotGood collaborator Juana Aguirre and special guest Monatñera whose work crosses between Latin American folklore and experimental/alternative sounds.
