The PrisonersĀ emerged in 1982 from the Medway Towns in Kent with their debut LP āA Taste of Pinkā on the band’sĀ Own UpĀ label.
1983 saw the band sign toĀ Ace RecordsĀ āBig Beatā subsidiary to release the follow upĀ āThe Wisermiserdemelzaā which featured the single āHurricaneā.
The following yearās āElectric Fitā EP included theĀ bandās signature song āMelanieā whilstĀ The PrisonersĀ joinedĀ Thee Milkshakes, The StingraysĀ and theĀ Tall BoysĀ onĀ Channel 4ās āThe TubeāĀ programme on a feature called āTrash on the Tubeā.
Two more albums followed āThe Last Fourfathersā (1985) and āIn From The Coldā (1986), the latter featuring the classic āWhenever Iām Goneā single, before the band called it a day in 1986 after a UK tour supporting theĀ Ramones.
10 years laterĀ The PrisonersĀ reformed for a handful of live dates which saw the band sign toĀ Steve LamacqāsĀ DeceptiveĀ record label alongsideĀ Elastica, PlaceboĀ &Ā Earl Brutus. āShine On Meā (1997) came out to enthusiastic reviews butĀ The PrisonersĀ split up again soon after. Bands such asĀ The CharlatansĀ & theĀ Inspiral CarpetsĀ have citedĀ The PrisonersĀ as a formative influence on their own sound.
AGMPĀ are thrilled to announce a one-off concert byĀ The PrisonersĀ at theĀ Roundhouse. Joining them will beĀ theĀ Inspiral CarpetsĀ andĀ BBC Radio 6ās Steve LamacqĀ who will DJ and host.
