WORDS AT KINGS PLACE
2nd March 2024 |
London’s longest-running literary festival, previously Jewish Book Week, returns to Kings Place from 2-10 March under its new name, the Jewish Literary Foundation presents Book Week. Director Claudia Rubenstein introduces this year’s festival.
‘We are delighted to share our full line-up of conversations, performances, talks, workshops and debates for our 73rd annual festival, the first under our new banner of the Jewish Literary Foundation presents Book Week.
Kings Place has few equals in the country when it comes to experiencing both musical performances and intimate, far-reaching conversations. As such, I know that Leonard Bernstein: Some Other Time is going to be something special: experts Edward Seckerson and Petroc Trelawny will discuss the West Side Story composer’s extraordinary career while West End stars Christina Bianco and Julian Ovenden will sing some of his best-loved songs. We have a couple of firsts this year in the shape of stand-up and a live podcast recording, so don’t miss A Night of Comedy with Bennett Arron, Sol Bernstein, Rachel Creeger and Josh Howie, or the first-ever English language edition of one of Israel’s most popular podcasts, Mifleget Hamachshavot with Micah Goodman and Efrat Shapira Rosenberg. Our online line-up includes wonderful speakers from across the globe, including the multi-award-winning Canadian novelist and playwright Sheila Heti in conversation with Mia Levitin. And, with Kings Place this week launching their exciting Scotland Unwrapped season, we are thrilled to have proud Scotsman Hugo Rifkindchairing our opening night discussion Being Jewish in Modern Britain with Emma Barnett, Sally Berkovic and Howard Jacobson. And as ever there are over 80 more events, covering art, faith, film, history, poetry, politics, rom-coms, sport, thrillers and so much more!’
