Morlocks are a Swedish act who combine elements of industrial rock, neo- classical, darkwave and metal with epic production values to create an exciting hybrid sound.
Having issued the long-awaited and well received album ‘Praise The Iconoclast’ in late 2023, they subsequently promoted it with two US tours in 2024, both in support of their friends and occasional collaborators KMFDM.
The group are kicking off 2025 with a similarly spectacular extravaganza in the shape of ‘Amor, Monstra Et Horrore Profundi’, a brand new five track EP that was released 10th January. The first two songs on it, ‘The S.N.A.F.U. Principle v3.0’ and ‘March Of The Goblins’, are drastic re-recordings of songs from ‘…For Your Pleasure?’, their rare as hen’s teeth 2001 debut album. ‘The Lake’ and ‘Young Prisoners’ are covers of songs by Bathory and Borghesia.

Morlocks was co-founded by group mainstay J. Strauss in Gothenburg, Sweden in the early ’90s, developing a diverse sound that ranged from guitar-based electronic rock to mediaeval tunes, to synth-pop with orchestral flourishes. However, a teaming up with current band partner Innocentius Rabiatus (aka Andreas Wandegren of goth veterans Dark Side Cowboys) in 2003 saw the group change tack and lean towards heavy, guitar-based industrial rock with epic symphonic parts that took advantage of their classical education. This led to the 2011 release of an album ‘The Outlaw of Fives’, as well as the recruitment of multi-talented bass player/vocalist Lamashtu.
They also befriended Sascha Konietzko (Käpt’n K) from the legendary Hamburg-based industrial rock outfit KMFDM, with Morlocks providing remixes and appearing on the KMFDM album ‘KUNST’. The good Käpt’n returned the favour with a guest vocal on ‘Praise The Iconoclast’, which also included vocals from dark ambient electro queen Karin My and black metal maestro Heljarmadr of Grá/Dark Funeral.
