“In my early teens punk rock was taking off and my favourite two punk bands were The Clash and the Pistols.â Explains Giuliano Gizzi âI loved The Clash more because they wrote songs about real issues and troubled times in Britain under Tory government in the 70âs that we could relate to. When they brought out the album Combat Rock, âRock The Casbahâ stood out: it was different, more dance but still The Clash and for me. l loved the song so much and the fact that at the time Middle Eastern Islamic countries banned all western music on their radio stations and this was The Clashâs way of saying that rock music/music is universal, itâs innocent and pleasurable for everyone in the world to hear!”
âR3L0ADEDâ is a real declaration of intent. GUN are looking to the road ahead, to new challenges, unfulfilled ambitions. While the album is a celebration of the bandâs illustrious past, it also forcibly underlines that their focus is fixed firmly on the future. Thereâs a real feeling of optimism and creativity⊠of so much more to be achieved.
Whilst celebrating the 30thAnniversary of âTaking On The Worldâ, the bandâs 1989 debut album, the double record gathers in one collection GUNâs best singles, taken from their award-winning career spanning three decades. âR3L0ADEDâ is presented has a double album, Disc 1 features singles from the bandâs seven albums, such as first chart hit âBetter Daysâ (1989), âSteal Your Fireâ (1992), âDonât Say Itâs Overâ (1994) and âFavourite Pleasuresâ (2017).
Disc 2 is a collection of cover songs, which includes âWord Upâ by Cameo (1986), for which the band won the prestigious MTV Europe Music Award for Best Cover. The band have recorded new versions of âEvery 1âs A Winnerâ by Hot Chocolate (1978), â(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party)â by The Beastie Boys (1986), âUnion City Blueâ by Blondie (1979), âRock The Casbahâ by The Clash (1982), âEverybody Knowsâ by Dixie Chicks (2006), âDiamondsâ by Rihanna (2012) and âTake Me To Churchâ by Hozier (2013).
