Unveiling the Enigmatic Sounds of Slighter: ‘Have No Fear’ from the Upcoming Album ‘This Futile Engine’
In the shadowy realms of the electronic music scene, where beats throb and synths scream, lurks Slighter, the enigmatic musical alter ego of the elusive Colin C.
From the depths of Mid City Los Angeles, Colin kickstarted his musical odyssey in the early 2000s, slowly but surely refining the future of electronic soundscapes. With a unique vantage point, he delved into collaborations, contributing to various releases by Metropolis Records and Cleopatra Records, while also unleashing his own sonic creations through his imprint, Confusion Inc.
Prepare yourself for an auditory feast meticulously crafted at The Cell Studio, as Slighter unveils his latest offering—a 13-track opus filled with an assortment of dark collaborations. Joining forces with the likes of Steven Seibold of Hate Dept, Yvette Winkler of Vaselyne, Craig Joseph Huxtable of Landscape Body Machine, Morgue VVitch, Deep Dark Water, and more, Slighter takes listeners on a journey through a twisted musical labyrinth.

In his unwavering pursuit of sonic exploration and innovation, Colin offers aural sustenance for the counterculture. “Have No Fear” showcases Slighter’s signature vocal style, riding atop a cacophony of techno beats and abrasive synth manipulations. The B-side, aptly titled the “Dark Rave Mix,” provides a more dance floor-friendly soundscape, cranking up the BPM and streamlining the arrangement to induce maximum mayhem. Psyklon Industries took up the mantle of visual storytelling, crafting an accompanying video that dances with darkness.
“‘Have No Fear’ was a song that emerged from the shadows after a prolonged gestation period. Surprisingly, it was one of the first inklings I had for the new Slighter album,” shares Colin C. Reflecting on his previous release, “V O I D” (which unleashed its sonic grip upon the world in 2021), he sought to diverge from the creative vein he had tapped then, while still imbuing his songwriting with cathartic energy.
Colin adds, “The recording sessions for ‘Have No Fear’ were entirely driven by hardware synth jams—raw, organic moments that ultimately guided the trajectory of the entire record. Yet, it took time to find the voice for this particular track. The lyrics, intentionally personal, carry a universal message of reminding oneself that fear is merely a choice.”
